Preceding the Series

1930s

Late 1930s - Gellert Grindelwald begins his rise to power, set against the backdrop of the Muggle Second World War. ^c

1940s

1945 - Albus Dumbledore defeats Gellert Grindelwald, ending his reign of terror. ^c

1980s

1980 - Millicent Bagnold becomes Minister of Magic. ^c

31 Oct 1981 - Lord Voldemort is defeated for the first time when he fails to murder infant Harry Potter. ^c

Mar - May 1988 - Millicent Bagnold's Tour of Britain and Ireland - Minister for Magic Millicent Bagnold leads a delegation of Ministry officials on a two-month tour of Wizarding Britain and Ireland. ^ao

During the Series

1990s

1 Sep 1991 - Harry Potter and his friends arrive at Hogwarts for the first time. ^c

22 Aug 1994 - The final match of the 1994 Quidditch World Cup takes place. Afterwards, a Death Eater riot breaks out, which ends when the Death Eaters scatter after someone casts a Dark Mark overhead. ^c

31 Oct 1994 - The Triwizard Tournament begins at Hogwarts. ^c

21 Dec 1994 - Auror Tait Aldridge is murdered, presumably by Runespoor smugglers. ^ao

24 Jun 1995 - A student dies during the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament, amidst rumors of Voldemort's return. ^c

18 Jun 1996 - The Battle of Department of Mysteries takes place. Voldemort is revealed to the public and the Second Wizarding War officially begins. ^c

Jun 1997 - Albus Dumbledore is murdered by Severus Snape after Death Eaters manage to infiltrate Hogwarts Castle.^c

1 Aug 1997 - The Fall of the Ministry - Lord Voldemort and his followers stage a silent coup of the Ministry. Rufus Scrimgeour is said to have quietly retired, and Pius Thicknesse is instated as Minister. From here on out, Ministry policy towards Muggleborns is drastically changed. ^c

2 May 1998 - The Battle of Hogwarts - In which 50 people died defending Hogwarts castle from He-Who-Was-Not-Often-Named and his Death Eaters. In this battle, Harry Potter who was only 17 kills Lord Voldemort. ^c

1990s

29 Jun 1998 - Kingsley Shacklebolt becomes Minister of Magic and begins sweeping reforms. ^ao

2 Sep 1998 - Hogwarts Resumes - Hogwarts School resumes as usual, although still somewhat battered. Minerva McGonagall is the new Headmistress. ^ao

2 May 1999 - The First Remembering Day - On the one year anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, many mourners, well-wishers and tourists visit Hogwarts castle to pay their respects, and to drink deeply to the victory and sacrifices. Those who took part in the battle tell their stories, or their stories are told by friends or family members. At sundown, the Ministry declares Remembering Day an official holiday. ^ao

2000s

11 Jun 2004 - Azkaban Prison Break - Due to lax security procedures, several Death Eaters overpower their Hitwizard guards at Azkaban Prison and take over the fortress. ^ao

1 Sep 2005 - Former History of Magic professor, Knox Greyfriar takes over Hogwarts School as its new Headmaster after Minerva McGonagall retires. ^ao

21 Apr 2008 - Plot:Kingstreet's Release - Theodora Kingstreet's parole hearing ends with her release from Azkaban. [2]

2 May 2, 2008 - Plot:Remembering Day Murders - The tenth anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, which turns to tragedy as Auror Benjamin Timmins and Wizengamot Elder Leon Carter are killed. [3]

4 Jun 2008 - Headmaster Greyfriar resigns and the school governors of Hogwarts select Analiza Snark to replace him. [4]

26 Jun 2008 - Plot:Runespoor Smuggling - A runesppor is turned loose in Diagon Alley. [5]

6 Aug 2008 - Aileen Reid returns home from her excavation earlier than expected after a curse begins making members of her team ill. [6]

16-17 Aug 2008 - The 2008 Woodcroft Festival takes place in Hogsmeade. [7]

3 Sep 2008 - Plot:Darcy's Fire - The Hogwarts Infirmary is destroyed by Fiendfyre. [8]

11 Sep 2008 - Assault at Heathrow - A mysterious attacker attempts to assassinate Kabir Ahmed when he arrives in London. [9]

15 Sep 2008 - During the September full moon, the Werewolf Capture Unit is ambushed. Peter Harfooey dies, and WCU head Iona Ballentyne is bitten and turned into a werewolf. [10]

1 Oct 1, 2008 - Plot:Robards Assassination - An imperioused Aberdeen Spencer murders MLE Head Gawain Robards. [11]

Werewolf Attack in Hogsmeade - A werewolf attacks Knox Greyfriar, Vladislaus Dragulia, and three students while they are walking back to Hogwarts. [12]

20 Nov 2008 - The first "public" meeting of the Wizarding Blood Alliance. [13]

2 Jan 2009 - Ministry of Magic Lockdown - The Ministry of Magic is put on lockdown for the first time since the last war after Richard Burke anonymously delivers a dead Auror's badge to Tamis Raynor. [15]

Head Auror Tamis Raynor publicly admits to the existence of the Wizarding Blood Alliance in a Ministry press conference. [16]

Ministry diplomat Trevor Reid is arrested for aiding and abetting the illegal Runespoor trade. [17]

1 Feb 2009 - Ava Grosvenor is murdered in the Forbidden Forest. [18]

28 Feb 2009 - Plot:SAWS - In an effort to raise awareness about their cause, a student werewolf rights organization hosts two speakers at Hogwarts who describe what to do in case of werewolf attacks. [19]

11 Mar 2009 - The Ides of March - A perfect storm of circumstance during a full moon results in a surge of werewolf attacks taking place across England. [20]

16 Mar 2009 - After a weeks-long stakeout, Jonas Trevelyan and Adon Eleor prevent an attempt on diplomat Azize Mulogo's life and arrest assassin Azorma Hyskos. [21]

5 Apr 2009 - Plot:MacDuff vs Ministry - Dugan Macduff is placed on the Most Wanted Wizards list after threatening the family of Auror Edward Pratt. [22]

13 Apr 13, 2009 - Edward Pratt receives a message summoning him to his parents' home, only to discover that they have been murdered by Dugan Macduff. [23]

4 May 2009 - Cameron Rosier is appointed the new Department Head of Magical Law Enforcement. [24]

1 Jun 2009 - Plot:Muggle Mage Relations - The brand new Muggle Affairs Office opens its doors at the Ministry under the direction of Dreogan Eleor. [25]

25 Jun 2009 - Missing Madam Snark - Hogwarts Headmistress Analiza Snark is kidnapped while traveling in Egypt. [26]

1 Aug 2009 - TetraWizard Tournament - The Tetrawizard Tournament delegations arrive in grand fashion at Hogsmeade. [27] [28] [29]

2 Aug 2009 - Corpus Inversus - A Wizengamot elder is found horrifically murdered at the Tower of London. [30]

14 Aug 2009 - Plot:Werewolves Back At Hogwarts - New Headmaster Herschel Reid decides to readmit werewolf students to Hogwarts. [31] [32]

11 Oct 2009 - Persepolis Zephyr is sworn in as the new Minister for Magic. [33]

22 Nov 2009 - Minerva McGonagall becomes the new Headmistress at Hogwarts after Herschel Reid resigns. [34]

2 Feb 2010 - Disgraced Auror Lawrence Musgrave is freed from Azkaban. [37]

20 Feb 2010 - Theodora Kingstreet returns to Azkaban when she is finally brought to justice for her treasonous conspiracies against the Ministry. [38]

1 Mar 2010 - Arthur Lemon, a madman convicted of murdering Raine Almasy's twin, escapes from St. Mungo's with the help of Michael Dark. [39]

9 Mar 2010 - Plot:Dementors Dementing - A dementor attack is reporting in Northumberland -- the first in nearly twelve years. [40]

15 Jan 2011 - Plot:Dementors Dementing - Dementors attack the Leaky Cauldron. [41]

12 Feb 2011 - Mischief Unmanaged - Lawrence Musgrave kidnaps fourteen Hogwarts students during a Hogsmeade weekend. [42]

15 Feb 2011 - Mischief Unmanaged - The Department of Magical Law Enforcement raids the home of Mortimer Gamp, the Head of the Department of Mysteries, in connection to the kidnappings. [43]

23 Feb 2011 - Plot:Dementors Dementing - The Daily Prophet reports that Healer Arcturus Hollingbury was attacked by Dementors, which were controlled by Lawrence Musgrave. Arcturus is rescued by I.D.R.E.A.D.. [44]

7 Mar 2011 - Dementors Dementing - Dementors attack Hogsmeade again. [45]

6 Apr 2011 - Plot:Remember, Remember - Lawrence Musgrave turns himself in to the Ministry. [46]

30 Apr 2011 - Plot:Ira Almasy Must Die - The MLE is ambushed as they raid the House of Atreus. The deaths of Ira Almasy and Jebediah Layton are reported in the Daily Prophet the next day. [47]

4 Jun 2011 - Plot:Ira Almasy Must Die - The Daily Prophet reports that the House of Atreus, home to Ira Almasy, had a rooftop garden full of dead bodies.

3 Aug 2011 - Pentrals Possessing - Abigail Reid escapes from her yearlong imprisonment in the clutches of Lorelei and Leander Hunt and Floos to the Ministry. [48] [49]

4 Aug 2011 - Plot:Dementors Dementing & Plot:Pentrals Possessing - After a long period of quiet, Dementors are reported surging south, following in the wake of a strange silvery mist that seemed to attack people left in its wake. [50]

5 Aug 2011 - Plot:Pentrals Possessing - The Daily Prophet reports that the strange dementor activity the previous day were the result of dark magic.[51]

23 Aug 2011 - Plot:Glass Houses - Edwin Glass oversees the obliviation of Lawrence Musgrave's memories, in preparation for his transfer to St. Mungo's. This begins Glass's eventual downfall. [52]

1 Sep 2011

Yavin Morgenthau is named the new department head of the Department of Mysteries.

Knox Greyfriar returns as Hogwarts Headmaster.

17 Oct 2011

It Came From Outer Space - Yavin Morgenthau shares with Virgil Carstairs that the Department of Mysteries has detected a strange extraterrestrial object that is heading for Earth.

Plot:Pentrals Possessing & Plot:Dementors Dementing - Drawn by all of the pentral victims recovering in St. Mungo's, Dementors attack the magical hospital late at night. [53]

11 Dec 2011

Cold Moon - A Werewolf Capture Unit patrol are ambushed by werewolves controlled by Cinaed Tawse and Aviad Cohen at the London Zoo. [54]

Plot:It Came from Outer Space - When the mysterious extraterrestrial object crash-lands in a Scottish lake, Yavin Morgenthau and Quill Som lead a cross-departmental Ministry team to secure the scene and retrieve it. When a strange monster seems to emerge from the lake, it proves to be more than they expected. [55]

17 Dec 2011 - Plot:Tale of Greer Grant - Iain and Annabel Grant are convicted for negligence after their werewolf daughter Greer attacked Muggles earlier that year, but are not sentenced to Azkaban. The Wizengamot orders that Greer must return to Hogwarts as a student at the start of the next school year.

19 Dec 2011 - Alec Carter names Iona Ballentyne the new head of the Werewolf Wing.

20 Dec 2011 - Plot:Vindication vs Exoneration - After twelve years of imprisonment, accused Death Eater Leo Gamp is exonerated of all charges and released from Azkaban. [56]

22 Dec 2011 - Plot:Pentrals Possessing - Iona McBoid, the pentral that has been possessing Abigail Reid, is finally exorcised at the Ministry with help from Virgil Carstairs.

2012

3 Jan 2012 - Plot:Magical Measles - A strange magical disease, Praecantatio Deliquus, began spreading throughout the magical community in the U.K., causing wixes to temporarily lose their magic.

5 Jan 2012 - Plot:SAWS - Students Against Werewolf Segregation is back, led by Zeta Pepper. The reinvigorated student-led group holds their first meeting of the school year. [57]

9 Jan 2012 - Plot:Wolf Moon - In the same night, Jebediah Layton attacks a werewolf safehouse and Aviad Cohen orchestrates a deadly direwolf attack on Alec Carter.

13 Jan 2012

Murder by Mail - Attacks on members of the Wizengamot begin, with deadly letters arriving in the mail. These attacks will eventually be attributed to Azkaban inmate Theodora Kingstreet

Plot:Wolf Moon & Plot:Tenacious Trouble - The mutilated body of Robert Dunnigan, who was kidnapped from a werewolf safe house during the January full moon, is discovered by Penny Pickler in the Ministry phone booth. [58]

23 Jan 2012 - Following the death of Alec Carter, Balfour Spectre is named the new head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

6 Feb 2012 - Minister of Magic Glass begins an inquiry into werewolf safehouse security. [59]

14 Feb 2012 - Plot:Mischief Mismanaged - Lyra Gamp, disguised as her son Orion Gamp, attempts to break Mortimer Gamp out of St. Mungo's. He accidentally transfigures himself into an umbrella. [60]

15 Mar 2012 - Return of the Mirror of Erised - The Mirror of Erised is on display at the National Museum of Wizarding History. [61]

17 Mar 2012

Plot:SAWS - SAWS hosts a protest in Hogsmeade during Hogsmeade Weekend after Zonko's Joke Shop refuses to stop selling Wacky-Wolf Werewolf Pops. [62]

Tenacious Trouble - During Hogsmeade Weekend, Jebediah Layton disguises himself as Feliks Spectre to abduct Greer Grant and Lucinda Temple. The two teenaged werewolves are rescued by Professor Storm, though Layton manages to escape. [63]

30 Mar 2012 - Calaveras opens under new ownership, and quickly makes a controversial name for itself by advertising full moon parties. [64]

Plot:Murder by Mail - Theodora Kingstreet is found guilty of the owl post attacks on Wizengamot members. [65]

Lawrence Musgrave is finally transferred back to Azkaban from St. Mungo's.

23 Jul 2012 - ELF - The Eradicate Lycanthropy Foundation, also known as E.L.F., begins making waves in the press as it pushes for a cure for werewolves, rather than encouraging them to live with their curse. [66]

29 Aug 2012 - Glass Houses - Evangeline Kuester and Harper Graves share what they've learned about Edwin Glass and his dark dealings with Solomon Carstairs. [67]

1 Sep 2012

Plot:Sorting Hat Silent - The Welcome Feast at Hogwarts goes awry when the Sorting Hat refuses to speak and sort the first year students into Houses. The so-called Nothingpuffs spend their first night in random dorms. [68]

Plot:Werewolf Amnesty - Perhaps in response to pressure from ELF, the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures announces an amnesty period for any unregistered werewolves who decide to register their condition with the Ministry during the month of September. [69]

4 Sep 2012 - Only a few days after offering an amnesty period for unregistered werewolves, a Ministry strike team raids Lapin, an underground bar popular with the lycanthropic community. Many werewolves are arrested, including Oscar Truemane and Tara Sallow. [70] [71]

26 Sept 2012 - Plot:Embarrassment of Wands - Knox Greyfriar hands over the 41 "war wands". The scandal eventually leads to him resigning from Hogwarts.
