Knox Greyfriar is the Headmaster of Hogwarts, and a Wizengamot Elder. Between May 2008 and August 2011, he had left his post at Hogwarts, but returned in 2011.
He is ursine, gruff and prone to bellowing. He is friendly and truly caring.
In October 2008, he was bitten by an unidentified werewolf and was cursed with lycanthropy.
Directly after Hogwarts, Knox apprenticed with a Healer in London. After the first war, he switched careers and began researching history.
Life and Times
Born: 1951
Knox Greyfriar came from large magical and muggle families in Lancashire. His parents were fairly well-off and his childhood was typical - he loved sport, did well in his studies, and made friends easily. There were very few opportunities to be alone because the family gathered together frequently and were overall supportive if not quite nosy.
Hogwarts: 1962-1970
Hufflepuff House welcomed Knox Greyfriar in 1962; and he was not the first in his family to be sorted there. Knox was a friendly kid, cared for others, but was heavily influenced by the whims of his peers. When he did find himself in trouble it was because he went against his better judgement and did what he thought others wanted him to.
He was otherwise known to be loud and cheerful.
Knox played on the Quidditch team his sixth year only, and has N.E.W.T.s in Herbology, Potions, and History.
Healer: 1972-1980
After a gap year in Europe, Knox apprenticed to a London village Healer, a strict old witch who barely used a wand at all. He would work with her for the next five years to become a qualified Healer.
At that time, he lived with two of the St. James children, cousins to the Greyfriars by marriage. The St. Jameses were supporters of the Death Eaters, and as Voldemort's power grew, Knox found himself a reluctant (and inexperienced) mob doctor of sorts.
By this time, Voldemort was clearly situated in the public eye, and the crowd Knox ran with were becoming deeply interested in the Death Eaters and their movements. The St. James cousins and their friends began to escalate to anti-muggle talk to actual violence against muggles. And on more than a few occasions, they'd return to the flat battered and bleeding. Knox would patch them up with few words. But as the years began to pass, and the violence began to escalate, Knox was asking fewer and fewer questions about how a bullet found its way into their calf, or why shards of cricket bat were splintering from their scalp. But Knox, a capable apprentice Healer, would patch them up, just the same as they'd slipped on the pavement.
By 1976, the Death Eaters terrorized the country and, in London, Knox Greyfriar was the wizard to see about a very quiet patching up. When he finally finished his Healer training, his cousins convinced him to delay applying at St. Mungo's and work exclusively for his 'friends' and the friends of his friends. If he didn't help them, who would? They could die, they told him. And that would be on him. It would not have surprised Knox to have found out he politiced the puncture wound of Evan Rosier, or to have nursed the deep burning laceration that eventually killed a Death Eater called Wilkes.
He would have backed out had not heard of what had happened to the Black boy. Instead he carried on abetting murderers and thieves, pretending he didn't know what was going on, never asking any questions.
Now, Knox keeps this chapter of his life as guarded as possible. Only very few people have heard about it from him, although a clever investigator would only need to turn a few rocks to find the trail.
People who know about this time in his life:
Atonement: 1980-1994
When The Boy Who Lived defeated Voldemort, Knox quickly left London and went to Glasgow. His intention was to leave behind the damage he'd done. He began looking to history to discover what great personal and societal failing had caused the horrors of their war, some clue as to why he'd been so incapable of bravery.
As the country recovered, so did Knox and as the decade passed he developed into an accomplished scholar and notable wizarding historian. He traveled, he married, he divorced, he had a son (Devlin Matthews, but he didn't find out until 2009).
In the late 80s he inherited a small house in Kent from his aunt. Greyfriar House
The Second War: 1994-1998
History repeated itself horrifically in the late nineties, Death Eaters terrorizing the country once more. An old friend, Arthfael Oglesbee, convinced Knox that it was imperative they act to save lives and to erase past sins. He and Artie did what they could to interfere with Snatchers and protect vulnerable families. Knox did what he could with his dated, out-of-practice Healing skills.
Hogwarts: 1998-2008
It seems the battle in Hogwarts castle was enough for the ghost of Professor Binns to pass to the other side. Knox took over the History of Magic class, and in became the Headmaster of Hogwarts in 2005.
He was considered a successful Headmaster despite his short tenure.
Current: 2008
Knox Greyfriar left Hogwarts in May 2008 to become a Wizengamot Elder. Shortly after his appointment, he was bit by a werewolf sent by Cinead Tawse. Plot: Greyfriar the Werewolf

2009
In 2009, Knox was a victim of the faulty Wolfsbane Potion that caused the Ides of March chain of events. While a werewolf, he killed Ramona Flickwick.
Later in 2009, Knox and Hannah Bombay, also a werewolf, were stranded in the field during a full moon. They were charged with breaking Werewolf Registry guidelines. Daily Prophet: [Recovered and Sentenced]
2010
In 2010, Knox and Hannah Bombay found themselves in the dangerous new habit of assisting unregistered werewolves with dangerous medical emergencies. They are getting a little too attached to this brand of heroism and it's become a full-fledged Plot: Underground Werewolf Clinic
2011
In September 2011, Knox returned to Hogwarts as Headmaster.
