Plot:Magical Measles

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Not actually measles, but a mysterious magical condition brought to Britain aboard the object that came from outer space. It causes flu-like symptoms and a wix to lose all magical abilities. It's quite contagious, its origins are unknown, and there is no cure. Luckily it seems to clear up on its own, so far.

Rumors are spreading that somehow squibs are involved.

A tiny article mentions a missing hiker Cornelia Farthing who couldn't Apparate home. The first reference to Praecantatio Deliquus (although we didn't know it yet.) She was reported missing on Dec 23rd.

Figaro ends up having to explain werewolves to Anton (among other things.) when the Cold Moon attacks become a skirting topic of conversation.

Eirene and Frank discover they have contracted Magical Measles while trying to get onto Platform 9 3/4. They get stranded in London (Frank with a broken nose) and they go on a scrambling journey to get themselves to Hogwarts. They break into a Floo Network waystation, but the Floo Network spits them out in Slandermouth where they encounter the horrible Norman Shufflebottom and are later retrieved by kindly mum Torrence Early. Professor Sylvain Onuris greets them at school.

There’s twenty-odd kids up here locked in the school infirmary, one long ward. I managed to head into London and buy some muggle remedies before I came up here, as our potions haven’t been much use. Daily ProphetFloo Network Malfunctions Under Investigation

Reports of the Floo Network ejecting passengers at unexpected destinations have come in over the past few weeks. Authorities at the Department of Magical Transportation have reason to believe these malfunctions are related to the Magical Measles outbreak. “It’s like a bee flying up your nose. You’re just not going to be able to go about your day, now are you? If you can’t cast a spell, stay out of the hearth. Please!”

About thirty Hogwarts students and staff have come down with Praecantatio Deliquus, also known as Magical Measles, and are being held in isolation in an attempt to contain the illness. St. Mungo’s healer Elixa Mordent is on site to care for the sick. St. Mungo's Hospital reports that the current treatment protocol is ameliorating the flu-like symptoms.

Squibs protest against rumours they are responsible for Magical Measles

A gathering of 200 people occupied the plaza in front of Gringotts Bank in Diagon Alley to protest the growing rumors that squibs are responsible for the mysterious Praecantatio Deliquus epidemic where magical folk lose the ability to lose magic. Members of SQUEAL (Squib Union for Equality and Liberation) were joined by magical allies. The protestors demanded the Ministry of Magic take immediate action to quash the conspiracy theories and prosecute discrimination against squibs.
