Plot:Glass Houses
They say people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Even when you're the Minister for Magic, your shady past can catch up with you. It only seems apt that the good witches of the Ministry should bring Edwin Glass down.

"People believe what they want to believe. Whatever's convenient, whatever makes them feel safe." Lawrence's face burst into a grin:
"Which is why we get Glass to obliviate them when they find out the truth." He looked to his friend for confirmation. Edwin shrugged, and recrossed his legs from the other end of the couch. Obliviation was rather run of the mill these days.
"True." He admitted quietly, "Merlin you two know how to bring the mood down."

"According to records, the DMAC had a rehearsal for a situation that was quite similar, if not almost a perfect simulation, of the November 5th explosions at the Leaky Cauldron." (Sameera Taylor)
"You're familiar with the Ministry's EPE's, yes?" Well, perhaps he should explain that one. He leaned forward and rested his elbows on his side of the desk. "Emergency Planning Exercises," he explained, "We run them throughout the year, they're either discussion based, over a table top or live." He nodded to her, "The Ministry keeps a set of plans for scenarios, dragon escape, Hogwarts becoming visible to Muggle eyes, large-scale breach of the Statute... Leaky Cauldron breach... they are constantly revised, retested to validate them, train our staff. One doesn't want to dust off a plan only to find it is a hundred years out." Edwin gave Sameera a smile and sat back.
"So yes, in early October we selected one to test, and it did happen to be the Leaky Cauldron scenario. Management of a breach of some sort - a loss of integrity to the division between magical and muggle worlds." He gestured a wall with his hands, "Possible magical and muggle casualties, breach of the statute. We put it in place on the night and the recovery plan has been in place since then, hence rerouting traffic to Diagon while the building is recovered." Edwin settled back again and curled his hands over the ends of the arms of his desk chair.
"Did you not have a copy? I can have someone send one to you if you need it for the investigation? Strange you only ask for it now though if so."Edwin Glass
"So what 'looks dodgy' about the exercise I authorised for the Leaky Cauldron breach? Have you found much need to probe my Department's exercises lately?"Edwin Glass
"Then you will take him a message: that I do not believe him. He cannot control dementors, he never will." Shufflebottom gaped wordlessly like a fish at Edwin's statement. He'd kept it simple in the hope Shufflebottom would remember it.Edwin Glass

Brown paper splayed open like a flower, a miniature red telephone box stood on his desk between the Minister and Kuester. Edwin’s face spoke plainly of his dread as he reached for the note.Edwin Glass
“The Prime Minister is unconvinced. Last we met, as you know I explained at length about dementors. Well, she has had some time to think, and the Health Secretary, awful man with an unfortunate surname from how she described, is fighting off accusations of a mental health crisis in Britain. More people are going to their doctor - healer, with the symptoms of dementor exposure. Considering Muggle following of scientific theory, telling them to go home, have a sweet cup of tea and a bar of chocolate is, according to the Prime Minister, making the government a laughing stock.”Edwin Glass
"Should this research of yours come to involve Musgrave, there will be conditions. Non-negotiable conditions," he took the first step towards their common goal and paused for a sip of tea. "And it would, of course, be done in collaboration with the Ministry."Solomon Carstairs
“Minister Glass has ordered the obliviation,” he told Harper the previous day, “There are memories we must copy and you must keep safe. They can be used at the right time. He has let me keep them longer than I expected, because by coming here, I protected myself.” She knew that for everything he had told her and Pratt, and the line of other aurors who had talked to him, he had still held back. “Insurance,” he had told her with sober sincerity, “If anything happens to me, to you...”Lawrence Musgrave
“You know what he wants you to obliviate, do you? Has he told you?” Lawrence asked, wanting to give her a good shake, “He wants you to remove memories about what he asked me to do to the dementors.”Lawrence Musgrave
“He told me no’ ta say about Mr Glass… ‘cause he would. When it were right.”William Shufflebottom
Maybe he’s up to something, the Minister thought inwardly. He’d read nothing but reports of the deeply depressive state their prisoner was in, and he would prefer to keep it there. If he was in the government’s hands, he couldn’t easily move however low he got. Sending him over at St Mungo’s had never made Edwin entirely comfortable, even after the thorough obliviation. He put his trust into Yavin Morgenthau and Sandy Misslethorpe, but this …. discrepancy fed the paranoia in the Minister.Edwin Glass
