Plot:SAWS
Students Against Werewolf Segregation! Astrid O'Malley, a Hogwarts student known for her activist causes du jour, becomes outraged that the new Headmistress, Analiza Snark, expels Olivia Foley from Hogwarts because she is a werewolf. Students rally behind Astrid and SAWS, not only on behalf of Ollie's plight but for the sake of werewolves everywhere.
Things are complicated, of course. Darcy Bloxham, meaning well, sets a dangerous fire and SAWS gets blamed. This inspires the Headmistress to hire Devlin Matthews and his gang to sabotage SAWS from within. When the former Headmaster is attacked in mid-October and becomes a werewolf himself, all are shaken, and SAWS temporarily disbands.
On Halloween, Devlin spikes the punch with a polyjuice potion that turns people into wolf-hybrids, and SAWS is blamed again. This time the authorities investigate SAWS to find out if they're really the ones starting fires and pulling dangerous pranks. They question two students, and the Headmistress makes a scapegoat out of Madeline Pratt by suspending her for evidence linking her to the Halloween prank (evidence that Devlin planted, of course).
However, SAWS makes progress in December when Margaret Groust presents their side of the story in a Daily Prophet article, printing the letters they sent in and interviewing SAWS member Fauna Blake. Later that month SAWS pulls off a successful Holiday Mixer at the Ministry, where werewolves speak about their experiences among supporters (and a few naysayers).
Once back at Hogwarts, SAWS helped organize the Valentine's Day Ball, splitting up the profits between the Hogwarts clubs and setting aside some money to honor Ava Grosvenor. They also arranged an optional assembly in late February, where Vlad Dragulia and Kurby Bagnold offered differing opinions on how to survive a werewolf attack. The March werewolf attacks caused another dry spell, but in May they banded together one last time during the school year to discuss summer plans.
Fauna Blake has graduated from Hogwarts and Sophie Flickwick is helping to lead in the fall '09.
The club had a tenuous existence at the school when the last Headmistress Analiza Snark was there. However, things may be changing for SAWS now that the new Headmaster, Herschel Reid has arrived and has welcomed Ollie and other werewolves back to Hogwarts.
In January 2012, Zeta Pepper restarts the club.

"Those who wish to condemn me for infringing upon the student's rights do not understand the implications of having a potentially dangerous creature unleashed on a school full of young, mostly defenseless children. It isn't about what [the student] has done in the past, how good she have been about taking her medicine or how careful she is when the full moon comes. It is about the possibility that one full moon she may forget to take her medicine, [the staff] may not be able to contain them and then thousands of innocent lives are at stake..."
Olivia absolutely must be at Hogwarts. I will be speaking with Professor Mainwaring, Madam Gertrudis as well as the Board of School Governors. I have an old colleague on the Wizengamot as well: Jason MacDonell.Knox Greyfriar
She laughed a little at Fauna’s words and wondered how anyone could be so naive. “Well,” Vienna retorted sarcastically, “If you say she is, she must be. Why don’t we all go gallivanting on full moons? I can’t imagine a safer place to be. There is a werewolf roaming in the castle and no one knows about it, but that’s okay, she’s careful.”Vienna Pascal
From outside the office her employees’ eyes went wide when all of the sudden they heard what sounded like a mix between a bark, a growl, a roar, and a shriek. Poking their heads out of their doors and up from the cubicles in the center of the department like meerkats to see what beast on the great green world could make such a noise, they were sent scurrying away when a hot cup of coffee shot out of their DH’s open office door overhead, bursting into an untold amount of shards as it collided with the opposing side of the hall. This was followed by a huge inhalation and a blood-curdling scream as a full pot flew hard and fast in the same path as the mug, smacking someone (who had prematurely thought he was in the clear) on the side of the head before meeting the same fate as the aforementioned mug.Covadonga Gertrudis
"I will not lie to the parents about what their children are exposed to and I can promise you that the previous lies this administration told have done irreparable damage to the trust the community at large has in this school. It will not be a simple 'don't worry we can keep them safe' situation. We will lose dozens of students, quite a chunk of funding considering some of the most outraged parents are the ones keeping us in food and supplies, and it will take quite a while before trust is able to be regained. I am assuming at your age that you recall the second war and the Battle of Hogwarts. The school wasn't able to protect the children then and it took years before Hogwarts got back to full capacity. We are still recovering from it and I will not put the lives of our students and the trust of their families in jeopardy again."Analiza Snark
She bit her lip and pointed her wand at the bed. No one was there to stop her. Her eyes flickered back up to her statement, and with a final wave of courage she cast her spell. A ball of ferocious flame shot from the end of her wand and sat square upon the bed, quickly expanding to lick up the hem of the sheet. "For Ollie," she whispered to herself, pouring her anger to the spell. It was as if a wall of heat slammed against her entire body. Perhaps she had overstepped herself, but consulting the darker books, but she knew her little Charms book sure as heck wouldn't get the point across. Serious steps had to be taken, and Darcy knew she was the only one who would or even could do so. She half expected to be whisked away to Azkaban right then. As the flames began to grow, Darcy gave it one final look-over before turning to run. She had done it. Snark could stick that in her schmancy stiletto heels.Darcy Bloxham

"The power of standing up together and protesting doesn't come from the extravagance of the protest or even the numbers of people involved. Change comes from a group of people illustrating to others that it is possible - and safe - to think differently. Humans don't like to be alone and getting singled out for something controversial is unnerving. Not everyone needs to know a werewolf - but everyone needs to feel like they won't be alone and a target if they stand up for them. If more of your classmates hear you calling them witches and wizards rather than creatures, the more emboldened they'll feel to call them such themselves. That's when society changes."Tulojow Nagde

"The fire in the Hospital Wing was far from a surprise. Given some of the decisions the current administration has made, some sort of retaliation was to be expected. If those in power lead with a strong hand of intolerance, those that learn from them are likely to follow their lead and react intolerantly."Niobe Thursby
"I see though that you have already decided that her ruling is not sufficient reason to give up trying. In this you are correct to pin your hopes on the Ministry. It is after all the body that has ultimate jurisdiction over the issue of werewolf rights. Personally I applaud your actions Miss Blake and I will say that I have never more been more proud of you but I would also urge you to exercise caution. Going over the Headmistress' head is not without risks. Should she learn of what you are trying to do I doubt that she would in any way be understanding. I have already lost two Hufflepuffs this term. I would hate to loose a third."Theobald Mainwaring
Turning back to them, she steepled her fingers and smiled coldly. "I need them removed. Not by force, since I will have the resistance against me multiply ten fold, but by sabotaging them from the inside. They don't realize it, but Bloxhams little fire has only given me the ammo I needed.. Correction, we needed. That is why I called you..." She leaned forward and smiled at the boys "... After all, it wouldn't be prudent for a headmistress to sabotage her own students, would it?"Analiza Snark
“It’s a step. It’s a first step towards... understanding what werewolves go through. Yes, it’s worth it,” she paused again, trying to sound less emotional. “We’re not doing this just for Ollie, but for all werewolves.”Fauna Blake

To deny a child their right to an education for no other reason than to further one's personal political agenda and to further propagate an archaic fear-based prejudice is despicable. And, all of us that stand by idly and let it happen are equally to blame. Ask yourselves - is an uneducated witch or wizard with lycanthropy really less dangerous than an educated one?Tulojow Nagde
If werewolves aren’t accepted and taught at school, how can they expect to be accepted in the ‘real’ world? And how can others learn from them and understand them if they can't even be in the same classroom with them?Fauna Blake

"We will see an increase in Dispenseries, to make sure that anyone will be able to get their hands on the necessary Wolfsbane. For those that seek it, there will be counseling sessions to assist in the process for those who are new to the change."
"Solaris Maximus!" A pillar of light shone from Knox's wand like the head lamp of a giant steam train. For a moment, everything was white and blinding. Blinking through the light, Knox saw it crashing through the thinnest of the saplings.
"Werewolf!" he bellowed, stumbling backwards. He was able to cast Reducto before the beast was upon him.
"What the--Merlin's!" he yelled as Devlin felt the urge to knock over the snack table. Was it hormones? Did someone give the house elves shrooms again? For the life of him, Graham had no idea why this year, of all years, in particular, every student felt the need to set Hogwarts on fire. Graham drew his wand, aguamenti on his lips when suddenly he was tugged nearly down to his feet by a clambering shark.Graham Bombay

Turning away from them, she put her hands behind her back and stared at the infirmary. "Perhaps you think that I am not as tough as previous headmasters... or that I am not concerned about this schools reputation... or that I am simply too stupid or incompetent to notice when my students go missing or commit crimes under my very nose..." Suddenly, she whirled around and let out a shout that seemed like it shook the room "WELL I AM NOT. AND I WILL NOT STAND BY AND LET A BUNCH OF CHILDREN UNDERMINE ME..."Analiza Snark
Fauna slowly stood up and began walking through the maze of desks, eyes glued to the floor as if she expected a foot to trip her, or devil’s snare to wrap around her leg and drag her out the window. The devil’s snare didn’t sound so bad if it meant she could avoid the red robed figure at the end of the maze. Every stifled giggle and murmur made her want to melt into the walls. If only the sheer force of her classmate’s stares would be enough to make such a thing possible.Fauna Blake

"However, these suspicions were turned away when more incriminating evidence was found in the possession of one Madeline Pratt. Pratt is also a very outspoken member of SAWS and has been open about her dislike of the new school administration. She is also a former room mate of Olivia Foley, the werewolf that had been expelled, and Darcy Bloxam, the student awaiting trial for the fire started in the Hospital wing earlier this year. Snark suspects that another student spiked the punch while she caused a diversion by instigating a fight with a well respected Slytherin student by the name of Xavier Tawse. The investigation into the identity of this possible accomplice is still underway."Cecilia Lark

"The bottom line is that I am doing my best to keep the students safe and give their parents the peace of mind that has been sorely lacking for the last several years. It was a very disheartening blow to discover how many people saw my good intentions as some sort of discriminatory hate crime against werewolves. It was not, however, surprising to me in the slightest that many of my most vehement dissidents are without children themselves. I surmise that many of them would think differently if it was their children, and not someone elses, that were being put in danger."Cecilia Lark

"These letters raise some powerful points. Mr. Travis compares the issue of segregation to the separation of muggles and wizards, and Mr. Ryker questions how lycanthrophy is that different from the dangers we face in housing a large group of young, inexperienced wizards in one place. Miss Blake wonders how we can expect equality if we only enforce it in the workplace and allow segregation in the schools."Margaret Groust

"...I propose we focus on the world we live in now and the witches and wizards living with lycanthropy. We must pressure our families and communities to embrace their werewolf neighbors and we must ever demand the Ministry of Magic to act as our advocates. To do this, we must face our communities, our employers, our friends and schoolmates and professors with pride. Pride as a werewolf, brave in our struggle, and pride as a werewolf ally, also courageous."Knox Greyfriar

"Registering is sort of like a safety net. It's like... a cage and a safety net all at once. She'd have to tell everybody who she is, and she might very well lose her job. She'd have to go through monthly checkups and always let the Ministry know her whereabouts. But... if a mistake does happen, she'd have a better chance of getting leniency and support, because being registered is seen as being responsible."Fauna Blake

Ms. Grosvenor's death was the greatest of tragedies and the students have felt the weight of her death, even the ones that barely knew her. "It's not a good idea to make any decisions without consulting the two, my thought was - if they're both willing - was dual leadership. Let Flickwick be the 'ideaman' and Branwell can lay down the law." He smiled slightly. "Miss Branwell is very good at that."Dion Fayette
"I know! With two cute boys here, plus you, people should be... you know, flocking! In three, two, one..." She glanced around the dance hall expectantly. "Well... give them a few minutes."Fauna Blake
When all is said and done, a werewolf is a human being. Perhaps, one with a sickness. Perhaps, one whose hunger and misery is exploited by others, to force it to do harm. "People don't want to think about these things, you see. You can write all the letters you want, begging the public to care- but it's another thing for the Prophet to have massive articles, with pictures, and to have the Wireless back it up...people trust the Prophet, for the most part. It's how most people base their opinions on what's going on. If we can get it on our side - we can make this one of the big issues and make it the Ministry's fault. Someone got lax, but the public doesn't realize how lax they've been, for decades. If we can get it so it was clear this was a matter of time and they had no safety measures in place to stop it..." His smile was not a nice one. "There's the public opinion you need."Dion Fayette
