Revision as of 17:32, 17 July 2013

Families and Adoptions gives you a list of pure-blood, half-blood, and muggle-born families currently played at AO, their family trees and adoption requests, and any other information the writer finds pertinent to include.

Underneath each family name, you may see a short paragraph about that family, and a list of the characters currently played. You can find non-player characters in Non-Player Characters.

Links to any family trees or adoptions are listed below the family name. Family trees show connections to other families, help explain how new characters might fit into a family, and chart a line of descent from one character. Adoptions give a more comprehensive view of which characters people want to see played. Please keep in mind that if you'd like to adopt a character, you must get approval from the person who submitted the request in order for the new biography to be accepted.

Adoption Requests that do not fit into families are listed in Other Adoptions.

The Adoption Center is an automatically generated list of Adoptable Non-Player Characters by Year, House, Occupation, and Blood purity.

If you do not wish to edit the wiki yourself, you may post your character information on the site here.

You may also use Cody's site to organize your family information - there, you can see families organized by surnames and how many family members are in each, the most recent individuals and families added, and which countries and places the families come from. Whatever method you pick for your family tree (thread, wiki page, Cody's site, combination of all three), feel free to link it below.

Pureblood Families

Halfblood Families | Muggleborn Families | Other Adoptables

Afamdi

This is an old family of voodoo priests and priestesses, who originate from West Africa, but because of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade are now rooted in Jamaica. They practice all types of magic, and also rituals, combat, and stealth, in they are well known for being able to seamlessly move between the muggle and wizarding world.

Afamdi-Steele is the main family branch, having their name combined with their old slave-owner, whom they killed and replaced. The Steele name was then used as a cover for the general public, while immediate family and members of their community knew them as Afamdi. As a tradition, whenever women from this family marry, they always keep Afamdi, drop the latter surname, and then adopt their husband's surname

Afamdi-Foley

Blood relatives to the Foleys, and immediate relatives to the Ó Móráins.

Almasy

An extremely wealthy, matriarchal clan primarily from Moscow, Russia. Only a handful reside in the UK. While they are generally viewed as Purists, the clan has been known to allow for halfblood relations.

d'Aubigne

The d'Aubigne family is primarily French. They are wealthy and tend to marry into families outside of their country in the hopes of broadening their gene pool and lessening the negative side effects of consistent inbreeding. Typically the male will move to the female's home country to make it easier to marry outside of French purebloods. For this reasons the d'Aubigne family is found all over Europe.

Bagman

Bagnold

The Bagnolds are a pureblood family with roots in Kent, England. They are closely connected to the Grimms and the Whitmans, and have direct ties to many other pureblood families. The Bagnold family has a reputation for being very pro-Ministry and anti-purist, and are known to produce many Gryffindors. Millicent Bagnold, a former Minister for Magic who came to power during the end of Voldemort's first reign, is still the clan's matriarch.

The Bagnolds are open for pureblood connections or new characters within the family. For more information, please contact Sparky.

Canterbury

The Canterbury name has become something of a hodge-podge. Depending on who eccentric wizengomot member Argyle Canterbury was married to (he has had several wives) his children have been pureboods or half-bloods. The Canterbury Estate is in the village of Mould-on-the-Wold. Current residents include Argyle; Hannah, wife number seven; his son Griffon Manley; and his youngest children with Hannah, Polka-Dot and Polly Esther Ligeia. So in a way they're related to everybody. Through marriage, twice or thrice removed.

Kanika

The Kanikas were an ancient Egyptian bloodline, who could trace their roots as far back as the 19th Dynasty of Egypt (3300 years). A powerful clan, they traditionally followed Set, and were known to engage in criminal activity; namely the trading of illegal potions ingredients, such as Runespoor venom and fangs. Their most well known, and legal, export was Basilisk venom. The metamorph and parseltongue abilities were carried in their bloodline.

The eldest daughter, Atalana, turned against her family and killed off the rest of the main bloodline in 1995. With her arrest and imprisonment, the current heir is Tapendra Trishna, her bastard son.

Ketteridge

Knight

The Knight family is from England. The main line currently resides is Kilburn. They are an incredibly old fashioned family. They tend to be purist, sexist, racist, and very traditional in behavior. The family is known- even now- to practice arranged marriages to keep the blood line pure and prestigious.

Adoptions

Half-blood Knight Branch

Tarron Knight's marriage to a Muggleborn witch (something quickly followed by his family disowning him), and the subsequent birth of their daughters has created a halfblood branch.

Lemon

A small and poor pureblood family. The Lemons have generally laboured in magical farms and tending to creatures. Only some of their members hold actively strong Purist views.

Li

de Luca

Family Tree

MacDuff

The MacDuff family is made of poor Scottish purebloods. They have very little left to their name apart from purity. It is not uncommon for them to turn to lives of crime, and with the recent attacks on the wizard world by Dugan Macduff their reputation has been further ruined.

Adoptions

Half-blood Macduff Branch

Maxwell Macduff's marriage to a Muggle and the birth of his twin daughters has created a half-blood branch. The only surviving member of this line is one of the twins.

MacFusty

The MacFustys are a long-time pureblood family dating back to at least the era of the Viking invasions (if not further). A massive Scottish clan of dragonkeepers, their family is spread in groups around the Hebrides, each family group guarding and caring for a specific dragon or pair of dragons. While considered pure, most of them are fairly relaxed on blood purity, and so muggleborns often marry in. Their clan is large and diverse enough that while many of them share a last name and a uniform group identity, most haven't met, and are only distantly related.

They have no currently adoptable characters, but are an option for pureblood ties.
Family Tree

Mattioni

The Mattioni family is basically a "filler" family used on various family trees at Absit Omen. They are a wealthy family from Italy, known for their involvement in the black market and organized crime.

Family Tree

Prewett

The Prewett family is an old pureblood family with many ties to the Ministry of Magic. The main branch of the family is located in South West England, predominately in Wiltshire with the Prewett Manor located outside of Westbury, Wiltshire.

Family Tree

Prideaux

The Prideauxs have only recently come onto the map in Pureblood society. A wealthy pureblood family from France, Camille Prideaux was originally an English Darrion when she married in. After her husband died mysteriously, she raised her infant son, Vedir, to follow her ideals.

The family has been wrapped up in the Runespoor trade since the 70s; Camille ran much of it in England then, and her son runs much of it now. They are not a family to be crossed, and seemingly have deceit in their blood. Vedir lives in Hasard Hall in Gloustershire.

Claggin

The Claggin name is descended from the Chieftainess of the Wizard's Council, Elfrida Clagg known for trying to classify Beings and Beasts and making the Golden Snidget a protected species. As such you might see the Claggin name around the wizarding world although nothing else noticeable or outstanding has been attributed to the family since then.

Collins

Family Tree

O'Doherty

The O'Doherty family is an old Irish clan made rich from an ancestral wand with rare Leprechaun Hair core. The family was once pure but rather convoluted. It wasn't uncommon for marriages between cousins or such to keep the family name, passed down through the firstborn sons. The family's legendary vile attitude is rumored to be caused by a curse from the original Leprechaun that was wronged by an ancestor. The family lives off their immense wealth, loaning it for illicit causes with nasty return rates. Current Patriarch Ainbheartach is not pleased with his son Martin's marriage to a muggle woman and grooms his half-blood grandson Casey as the next family scion.

While the family claims to be of pureblood that is under scrutiny, at least in the recent generations. Casey, particularly, was born from a muggle mother. Whether they are truly pure or not, the O'Dohertys like to portray themselves with that status.

Greenburg

The Greenburgs were once a pureblood family; however, a muggleborn marriage rendered the family halfblood. The current head of the family, Samuel, is pushing hard for his children to marry pure and restore their family's true heritage. When his daughter Judy married the halfblood Tapendra Trishna, he disowned her - causing a massive rift in his family.Their main home is in the Diagon area and after the death of his wife, Samuel is left with his two feuding sons, Simon and Gabriel.

Greyfriar

The Greyfriars are a heavily mixed half blood family. Knox is related by the marriage of his aunt to the St. James Family. Knox had a son Devlin Matthews out of wedlock with a muggle woman. Knox was married to NPC Meredith Ballentyne who did not take his name.

Family Tree

Hollingbury

The Hollingburys originate from East Sussex, where they share the same name from an area in the city of Brighton and Hove. A middle-class, heavily halfblood family, the Hollingburys have had absolutely no qualms with marrying Muggleborns and halfbloods, although they avoid marriage with Muggles. Through this lack of care for blood status (starting with their ancestors), they have managed to marry some Greeks, to the point that today, the family has relatives and connections in Greece. It is usually common to have at least one person every generation with a name that has roots to that Greek origin.

Hughes

The Hughes family has a long history of witches and wizards, but have welcomed halfbloods, muggleborns, muggles, and more recently, veela into their family just often enough for them to never quite become a pureblooded one. They tend to be lower-middle class, but content, happy people.

Falkin

The Falkins are a half-blood family, the name from the muggleborn father Frederick. The whole family is Hufflepuff through and through: outdoorsy, boisterous, family centered and hardworking...except for the awkward middle son, a Ravenclaw. Philo is embarrassed by his family and the Falkins have no clue why Philo doesn't join in. Frederick and Francine fully love each other and usually remember preventive measures but sometimes they forget, which might contribute to the odd gaps between the ages of their children.

Pienas

The Pienas name is from the American native Patricia Pienas, originally from Texas. Soon after moving to London she dated and fell in love with a wizard. They had one daughter, Obderedria, that this wizard named. And then he disappeared. Patricia has unknowingly been victim to Memory Charms. She knows Drea's father must be a wizard and that a wizarding world exists, but nothing else. No memories of what they did together except for the furthest fringe. The wizard is unknown to this day.

Sellaphix

The Sellaphixes have owned Sellaphix Apothecary in Knockturn Alley for four generations. They are not a pureblood family and often intermarry with muggles. There are Sellaphixes in London, Manchester, and Yorkshire. The current owners of the Apothecary are Rafe Sellaphix and his wife Zelda.

Storm

German-based family (questionable English breeding further back given the spelling!) which is generally pure in the high generations, but half blood in the lower generations. They attend Durmstrangs. They have links with the Bayard (French), Duerr (French), Gundersen, Giles (English), Harker (English), Mordent (English), Moriarty (English), Murray (English), Kollontai (Ukrainian), and Volkov (Ukrainian) families.

Torret

The Torret family originated as a French family. The surname of the family was Touret until two sons were disowned and, as a result, moved to England and changed the ‘u’ in their last name to an ‘r’. Thus began the Torret family in the 13th century. For many generations the family was English and pureblood, until the 18th century when a Torret first married a muggleborn. Since the family has become completely halfblood.

Family Tree

Trishna

The Trishnas are a new family; the surname was created by Tapendra Trishna's mother, Atalana, to separate him from her bloodline, the Kanikas. The family currently lives in muggle Cambridge. Tapendra teaches at Hogwarts, and the girls both currently attend. His wife, Judy Greenburg, died in 2002.

Trumble

The Trumble family used to be purebred, until some giant was thrown into the mix. Ever since then, members of the family have married halfbloods and muggleborns, not really caring about their blood status. They cared more about proving themselves academically. It is not uncommon for Trumbles to have many children.

Watkins

Family Tree

Zamperia

The Zamperia family is a highly respected and fairly wealthy Cigano family. It has longest history of intentional half-blood breeding in both the Roma/Cigano culture and in Portugal. People from the Zamperia line seem to be talented with charms and transfiguration, rather than other branches of magic. There have been people who were skilled in Divination, (Mihai's mother is a seer, though she married in). They are a charitable family, and they consider the well-being of the community to be of great importance. The Zamperias tend to be skilled with the memory modification area of charms, which may cause discomfort among others in their community.
