Before he was turned vampire, Mateo was a calm, cool and calculated young man that acted like the perfect gentleman. He used a logical approach to most things in life which did get him in trouble at times with those that thought he was cold hearted for not reacting more emotionally. He was loyal and true to his friends even though he found it harder to get to know those in the other houses. Mateo was very involved in school and wished to someday work for the Ministry of Magic. Unfortunately his employment there ended up bringing him close to vampires, who turned him.
