Raine Almasy discovers that her aunt Ira was behind the kidnapping of Zel Trumble in December. She chooses to leave Ira and return to Hogwarts, carrying evidence of Ira's crimes with her.

Hannah Bombay and her uncle Lawrence Musgrave have had the last straw with Ira. They hatch a plan to get rid of Hannah's blood contract, which they hope will bring Almasy down. In the process, Ignan Storm is maimed and may potentially die.

Hannah Bombay informs on Ira Almasy to the head of the DMLE. Unfortunately, Carstairs does not find sufficient evidence to prosecute Ira just yet, but certainly has enough to put Hannah into Azkaban for now.

Ira Almasy and Jebediah have a quiet moment about her imminent reveal to society as a villain. She is curiously weak, worn out from conflicts with Mihai Zamperia.

She opened her eyes to look fondly at Layton. "Soon," Ira assured him and allowed him to lean in to kiss her. Their lips barely grazed but it held all the emotion of true fervour. "Will you dress me?" she pressed her forehead to his mouth.

He sent a thought into her head: yes, of course, anything. Her brother's funeral had been a quiet affair but now they would have to attend the reading of his last will and testament. Ira had fed Mihai Zamperia his kin, and he had taken Kazimir's life in retaliation. She was tired of this battle.

Ira Almasy summons Johann Storm to write her last will and testament. She leaves her estate to Raine Almasy. As a final favour to Balfour Spectre, she gives Johann her copy of his contract, to destroy after her death.

Johann Storm explains his meeting with Ira Almasy to Balfour Spectre. Although one party is tentative, the other is jubilant about her demise.
In the Naked Light

"Ira asked me to write her last will and testament," and again that brilliant blue gaze shifted from contract to Balfour's face. Its scrutiny was dead serious.

Which only made Balfour self-conscious as he turned this fact over in his mind, brow creasing. Hm. Not once in his acquaintanceship with Ira had she ever discussed her mortality so prosaically. Poetically and literarily, maybe, but the material world had always been more of a means to an end - dramatic style to her violent substance. "I’m sorry…" Johann's apology intruded on this thought and Balfour realised he had been staring at the damned parchment too.

His gaze snapped abruptly to the other man and he reached out to take him by the sides of his face, mirroring his seriousness.

"Johann. Darling," he brushed his thumb over a sharp cheekbone, "... what are you telling me? Is it what I think it is?"Balfour Spectre

The tension drew taut, a worried furrow now. Layton blinked - slipped for a moment into her mind, where he confirmed that she had previously been skeptical of Ira's illness. Had expected this to be something different; a threat, perhaps, veiled in the form of an unassuming visit.
