The Department of Mysteries runs a dangerous Death Chamber experiment exploring the possibility that there is a place between Life and Death where Time does not exist.

In doing so, they stumble on a Time Travel plot that causes certain people in the wizarding world to repeat the same day over and over again... until they get it right.

The Unspeakables and other Loopers must find a way to prevent a Calamity plotted by the Futurists movement.

Wanting to examine one of his Prophecies, Elijah Grimlish is escorted by Virgil in the Hall of Prophecies. The two discuss their recent difficulties in scrying, as Seers. Virgil suggests that something is the matter with the flow of Time and it is interfering with their ability.

Prompted by his discussion with Eli, Virgil approaches Unspeakable Francis Pepper to ask if it is possible for him to have seen a future version of himself in the place between Life and Death. They consider what it would take to confirm the possibility.

[Loop #1] Monty Pepper is thrown back to the start of the loop, and finds himself waving off Tabitha Trickstone from his portrait studio. He immediately owls Francis Pepper and Theta Pepper with two of the Pepper family codewords. Bluebottle, for serious temporal event or disaster, and kangaroo for being thrown back in time. (He holds the family record for largest kangaroo, you see.)
