Carmen de Rothschild is the Keeper of the Hall of Prophecies. Her father is a very wealthy Parisian muggleborn, who married her British mother Alana (née Pinn) .
Prior to working in the Office of Prophetic Records, Carmen spent time in Spell Experimentation and Research. She is known for having studied at a muggle university shortly after her first year of Unspeakable training - her degree was in marine biology. Carmen has also worked on deep sea research projects in the muggle world. Her interests are many and varied but she ultimately gave these up to concentrate full-time on prophetic arts and divination.
Although she may possess the Seer ability, it is joked that Carmen's visions are generally of trivial detail. She is an ex-girlfriend of Balfour Spectre, whose flat she once equipped with floating emotion-reactive jellyfish.
Carmen strongly believes visions can’t be altered and that the hand of Fate is inevitable; this is a point of contention amongst Unspeakables who work with her.
