Balfour Spectre is a wizard who, in his mid-thirties, has seen a good deal of the world- and even more dragons. He was promoted to Head of the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in January 2012. His previous position was as head of the Beasts Division.
If business carries one past the department, you will find him to be an approachable and genuinely likeable person. He's a busy man but always has time to stop by for a friendly chat. He lives at the Spectre Estate manor in Edinburgh with his fiancé Johann Storm.... as well as with three calico cats known as The Fates, a German Shepherd called Whiskey, several newts and a collection of ceiling jellyfish (courtesy of Carmen de Rothschild. Creatures tend to have a habit of coming and going. He is well-known in his field and has named a rare hybrid of a Hebridean Black and Hungarian Horntail, the Hebridean Spectre.
Balfour's son, Feliks Spectre came to live with him at the end of 2011, and is currently in his first year at Hogwarts.
Spectre Clan
The Spectre Clan is well known for its contributions to Magizoology journals and it is not unusual for members of the family to be involved in the care of magical creatures. They are especially skilled at the handling of Hippogriff farms, although in the past many of their members were dragon or beast handlers. Other members include Nathaira Spectre, Balthair Spectre and Aisling Cooper
The Haunting Hour
Balfour used to anonymously host a weekly radio show called The Haunting Hour, featuring a charmingly meandering programme that is also critical of the Ministry. It was funded by Ira Almasy, who allowed Balfour to use the Basement floor of her residential building to broadcast his episodes. The show no longer airs as Balfour has other pressing obligations.
