Eldest pureblood wizard of the Scottish clan, former Dragon Handler, one of two people for whom the Spectre Estate doors open without prompt. He is a widower and was known to have been deeply in love with his wife, who passed many years ago now. Her name was Artis Spectre. Balthair is a bit of an old-fashioned grumpy bastard but ultimately down to earth and progressive in his ideas of wizarding society. He is the father of ten children and the grandfather of Merlin knows how many. His sister, Blair Spectre, is married to Zelda Sellaphix's sister.

His grandchildren include: Balfour Spectre, Nathaira Spectre, Alistair Spectre, Isla Spectre, Aisling Cooper, Nona Spectre.

Balthair now lives in his own cottage in Aberdeen, although he is known to frequently visit his grandson and heir, Balfour, at the estate in Edinburgh.
