Zeke Wingate is a good-looking softy with the loyalty of a lion, the heart like a lamb, a brain like and owl, and a thirst for adventure. He's been working as an Auror for nine years after the death of his father when he was seventeen and always promises to be not afraid.

History

Zeke was home-birthed on a day that snowed in his parents from getting to the hospital. His father, Kyle Wingate, was a police officer in Derby and his mother, Erin Murphy, was a temp in an office building downtown. His parents had met while they were travelling through Scotland and had reunited after Kyle graduated from the police academy. Zeke has no other siblings, since his parents decided that one child was enough with their hectic schedules. But that didn't mean they didn't love him any less. they were compassionate in raising him. Erin taught him to cook and organize, to be polite and gentle. Kyle taught him to be cautious and to stand his ground in case of danger. He taught his son to be a afraid, but to control his fear. He often told him to "Be Not Afraid", even if he was scared out of his wits.

This lesson came in handy when he began showing signs of magic when he was nine, when he tied the shoelaces of a bully's trainers together in defense of a friend. His magic became more and more prominent and more noticeable to the point where Kyle and Erin had to withdraw Zeke from school. Zeke was kept at home and had to self-teach himself advanced reading and writing, as well as cleaning the house and cooking meals for his father and mother hen they returned home from work. This caused a independent, yet shy streak in Zeke's life when he was removed from other children his age. He didn't mind it, he loved surrounding himself with books and walking to the grocer to buy the produce and chicken that would feed his family. He enjoyed the power of choice that came with being alone.

In the few hours in the day that Ezekiel had with his parents, they would cook and read stories together. His sleeping patterns often kept him awake in the evening and night to revolve around the time when his parents were awake. When his father had the day off, they would work on the tree house in the backyard, constructing rope ladders and window boxes. When the owl came with the letter that rainy June day, the tree house was put on hold with a promise to be finished that was never fulfilled.

Zeke was excited to finally understand what all this hectic madness over the past year and a half had been about. But with the excitement came the fact that Zeke would have to leave Derby for the first time in his entire life, being the farthest away from his mother and father than ever before, filled the young wizard with a feeling of homesickness before he'd even left.

A professor from his new school came down from Scotland to help Zeke and his parents better understand his situation and where to properly shop for his school supplies. Erin and Kyle slowly warmed up to the idea that that their son was a wizard, was going to get a good education, and learn to harness his powers so he didn't have to stay home alone all the time.

That September, Zeke got on the Hogwarts Express and waved good-bye to his parents, holding back tears so his father wouldn't see him being scared, even though he was terrified of the journey that lay ahead. He was sorted into Hufflepuff because of his lost nature. He was a mix of everything, not too creative, but plenty of brains, courageous and brave, but wasn't the show-offy type, he was never particularly ambitious, even though he enjoyed making his own choices.

For the first time in two years, Zeke was around other children again. He made friends very quickly and found a liking to his Defense against the Dark Arts and Potions, finding he had a knack for the two subjects, as well as excelling in his other classes as well. Zeke returned home every holiday break to his parents and got a job working in the Derby police station as a secretary. Erin and Kyle heard of the unrest in the wizard world and pulled Zeke from his classes when he was thirteen, just before the Battle of Hogwarts occurred.

The spring of Zeke's sixth year, he was seventeen. He received his usual letter from his parents. But instead of his father's messy script scrawled in the margins around his mother's letter, his mother's owl was smeared with tear trops that splattered the ink. His father was dead. Kyle had been shot during a domestic violence investigation. Zeke was sent home for the funeral. As his father's blue casket was lowered into the ground, Zeke decided what he was going to do with the rest of his life. He was going to enlist in the Auror Corps and protect the people like him. When Zeke returned back to Hogwarts, he threw himself back into his studies, and got the highest marks of his school career by graduation.

Zeke zipped through Auror training and was on the job within the year after graduating. He lives in an apartment complex in Diagon Alley and visits his mother on the weekends. He refuses to look out the window where the incomplete tree house rots, and keeps the curtains drawn on that side of the house. When Zeke turned nineteen, his birthday present to himself was a tattoo. He brought in a letter from his days in Hogwarts that his father had written. He showed the tattoo artist the line he wanted inked on his arm, and was out of the parlor in under and hour, his father’s words to him forever printed where he could see them.
