Balfour Spectre is a wizard who, in his mid-thirties, has seen a good deal of the world- and even more dragons. He is the Head of the Beast Division at the Ministry. If business carries one past the department, you will find him to be an approachable and genuinely likeable person. He's a busy man but always has time to stop by for a friendly chat. He lives with three calico cats known as The Fates, a German Shepherd called Whiskey, several newts and a collection of ceiling jellyfish. Creatures tend to have a habit of coming and going. Balfour is godfather to Alexandra Carstairs. He is well-known in his field and has recently named a rare hybrid of a Hebridean Black and Hungarian Horntail, the Hebridean Spectre.
Spectre Clan
The Spectre Clan is well known for its contributions to Magizoology journals and it is not unusual for members of the family to be involved in the care of magical creatures. They are especially skilled at the handling of Hippogriff farms, although in the past many of their members were dragon or beast handlers. Other members include Nathaira Spectre, Balthair Spectre and Aisling Cooper
The Haunting Hour
Balfour anonymously hosts a weekly radio show called The Haunting Hour, featuring a charmingly meandering programme that is also critical of the Ministry. It is funded by Ira Almasy, who allows Balfour to use the Basement floor of her residential building to broadcast his episodes.
