A rather hard faced but handsome girl with large blue eyes and dirty blond hair she likes to scrap back into high, tight ponytails. Though she is not exceedingly tall, she is sturdy and curvaceous, giving her a large physical presence. She likes heavy eye make-up, excessive jewelry and 'chavvy' clothes. Sam is brutally honest, to the point of being tactless, and gives the air of someone who doesn't give a damn what others think of her, when it reality she is very vulnerable and lonely. She hides her insecurities behind a bad girl facade and engages in several destructive habits, giving her the reputation as a bully, a troublemaker and a party girl.
The youngest child of Yorick and Yvonne Travers, and the only child Yorick considers legit, Samantha has been spoilt but not really loved. Her parents were too busy being stuck on themselves to pay much attention to Samantha or her elder brother Jonathan (a.k.a Jack Howell), leaving them to their own devices. The two spent most of their youth playing together at first in the front yard of their large manor on the outskirts of Derby, and later, when Yorick's lack of business sense put them in the poorhouse, on the less reputable streets of Derby's lower class burroughs. They were isolated at first, even bullied, until her brothers ferocity in protecting her earned them a reputation and some rather less reputable friends. Their good times together didn't last long, however.
When she was 13, her father accumulated a massive debt with the werewolf, Vincent Carrow, and was horrified to learn that Carrow wanted a 'treat' in return. Her uncle Alaric Travers convinced Yorick to sacrifice Jack instead of Samantha, and Jack willingly obeyed, believing he was being sent to fight off the werewolf rather than be its dinner. Samantha tried to protest but was locked in her room, unable to do anything to help her brother. It would be the last time she saw Jack. She can only presume he is dead, like her parents claim, though she regularly hopes otherwise.
After Jack disappeared, Samantha threw herself deeper into her destructive habits. Whereas before she was seen as just being rude, now she was a delinquent and a bully. Her parents attempted to reel her in so she could be groomed into a good wife for a pureblood husband, but Samantha fights them all the way. For her, the path to destruction seems a lot more fun than what her parents have in mind. Because of her near constant detentions, Sam hasn't been allowed back in Hogsmeade for most of her 6th and 7th years, so she has yet to discover that her brother is not only alive and well, but living right under her nose.
