A severe faced woman who could only be described as 'handsome' in the right light, but with an intensity that has been known to attract a surprising amount of amorous affections. The type of woman so image conscious that she would save her best pair of shoes before her own children, yet enjoys torturing her husband with multiple dalliances that could easily destroy said image. According to Jack, she is rigid and cold, but can demand respect with a glance.
Yvonne is the only daughter and second child of the poorer branch of the Fontaine family of France. When her elder brother Vincent came out and announced that because he was gay, he had no intention of marrying a pureblood woman to continue the family name, Yvonne had to step up and agree to an arranged marriage to not only keep the family pure but hopefully regain some of its lost wealth. They found their answer in the Travers' family, not realizing that Yorick's complete lack of business sense would leave their daughter, and by extension their family, practically penniless. She hated Yorick from day one, describing him as a 'Sniviling waste of pockmarked flesh and pure blood” and took great joy in torturing him by having numerous affairs with those of lesser status, including muggles. When this planted the seeds in Yorick's mind that Jack was less than pure, Yvonne did little to dissuade him. Whether this is because it is true or because she simply likes to see him squirm remains to be seen.
Due to having more interaction and a bigger role in Jack's life, their relationship is better than his with Yorick, and Jack respects his mother as a terror inspiring figure. She doesn't hate either of her children but lacks the nurturing of a natural mother. Both were raised primarily by house-elves and left to their own devices for much of their young lives. She did, however, give Jack a silver-edged knife and a stiff hug the night of his attack, commanding him to be strong, so there is at least some affection hidden under her stony facade.
