Phaëthon Artifice
Phaëthon Artifice is a start-up artificing & crafting company founded by Alvis Norling and Casey O'Doherty on Nov. 9th 2015. Casey has controlling ownership of the company (51%) but Alvis holds the rights to all of his patents.
Currently, the company is in its beginning stages. It was created chiefly to withhold the I.P. rights of their creations as Casey and Alvis pursue other careers. Casey is a Knareswick apprentice and professional duelist, while Alvis undergoes a traditional apprenticeship under another artificer. There are no offices for the company at present, only a PO Box at the Diagon Alley Post Office.
Business is currently conducted by mail order. Casey has been looking into mass production and recruiting other innovative talent into the company between various endeavors. Otherwise he keeps the company's interests close to chest as the public face of Phaëthon Artifice to Alvis Norling's creative genius. There are a few cached workshops hidden at Two-Story Books and other places.
Etymology
Phaëthon, in Greek mythology, is the son of the god Helios who asked to drive his chariot. In some versions of the legend, Phaëthon is the name of the "shining ones" descended from the sun god or the name of the chariot itself. The myth refers to why various areas of the Earth are scorching hot or freezing cold because of the irregular distance from the Sun created by this accident. (Really, it's the wobble of the Earth's orbit, not the Sun itself)
The spelling 'phaeton' has also been used by muggles to refer to a vintage carriage car and several asteroids in space. The latter is what inspired Alvis to name the custom broom he received from his granddad, Weyland Norling, as Phaeton during his days on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team.
Innovations & Inventions
