Étienne is a character that lost his joy and soul over the years of adulthood. He was once a fun-natured man, who later became jaded by wealth. He's been isolated from his family while living in America, and is starting to reconnect with parts of himself that he'd long-since believed he lost. Moving back to Europe, he's decided that he wants to reconnect with family and old friends. He also wants to be a better father.
Appearance
Étienne is tall, broad-shouldered and muscular. He has a square-jawed, and chiseled faced. Away from his family, he finds solace in the gym. Working out provides him a space away from his daily responsibilities, including his child and wife.
At work, he's not afraid to take space in a room and command the space. He's often seen with legs parted, and chest open to convey power in the space. Despite the perception of openness he conveys through his body language, he is tight lipped and hard to gain approval from. He speaks English with a French accent. He is self-aware of his image, and chooses to put on a show for everyone around him. When he's alone, he looks wistful, and sad.
Personality
In Étienne's early life he was earnest, down-to-earth and excited about the endless possibilities of his future. He was hard working, known for being astute in the field. Étienne was especially compassionate and wore his heart on his sleeve.
Age and years of depression has taken away the early twinkle in his eye. He struggles with finding joy in life, often moving through the motions of life. He's described by coworkers as being closed off, and reserved. Many believe that there is nothing genuine about him, but are jealous of his possessions.
His daughter is about the only person he's been able to stay present with.
History
Étienne was born in Nice, France, along with his younger sister. He grew up in a muggle-neighborhood despite his parents being from the last pureblooded-line of the family. He is related to many half-blooded, and muggle born family members. He grew up in a squarely middle-class family that prioritized family-time over wealth, though these values did not translate to his adult life.
Étienne lived in a multi-lingual family where he grew up speaking fluent French, Spanish and is conversational in Italian. He has a large extended-network of family members that live throughout the Latin countries.
He went to Beauxbatons, and was sorted into Bellefeuille. Naturally charming, Étienne made many friends and was well-loved by his Professors. He excelled in Charms, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts and History of Magic. With hard work and determination, Étienne left school as an Auror-in-Training for the French Ministry.
His first few years post-Beauxbatons, he started in the French Ministries Magical Law Enforcement office. During this time, he decided to learn English, and after several years of trying got into the International Office, where he transferred to a job in America.
Leaving France was his biggest mistake. He met his wife, Eris Liddleton while working in the International Office. She flaunted her wealth, and found him entertaining and endearing. "Stephen" fell in love with Eris pocketbook first, and she fell in love with his body. He adopted his English name for ease of use. They had a good run in the beginning of their relationship and married quickly.
Things were well between them until she had their daughter, Colette Descôteaux. Eris was no longer happy with him, and pushed him to make more money. He left the Ministry and worked in the Magical American Banking sector. He hated her for pushing him into a job that makes him miserable, but he felt too tied to the money to leave.
In the past year, Eris transferred back to the United Kingdom, and "Stephen" followed. He started a job at Gringotts as a Senior International Trade Specialist and has been there for the past year. He has not used his French first name for several years at this point, and only speaks French and Spanish with their daughter. His wife hates that he won't speak English with their daughter.
Stephen believes that his wife has been cheating, but does not have any solid proof. He's trying to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
Current Job
Étienne works as an International Trade Specialist for Gringotts. He essentially brokers corporations in the magical world to make international trades for goods by transfer of monies. He is meticulous with details, cold when it comes to the facts and facilitates fair trade-deals. It is a paperwork-heavy job and he would describe it as very boring.
Étienne is the ultimate paper-pusher. He works a cushy office job where he looks at numbers all day, and works longer hours around important trade deals. He has a small team of wix that report to him and he delegates tasks amongst them.
