Orion Gamp is a respected but adventurous and oddball travel guide writer for Devia Orbis (a wizarding travel publisher a bit like Lonely Planet). Orion lives on a boat so he can travel around the world and write about whatever he is commissioned for or whatever he feels he can make income from while having fun. He has untameable, infectious energy, and wouldn't like you to pigeon-hole him as a loveable rogue, but maybe.
He is the first son of Mortimer Gamp and Lyra Gamp, older brother to Cepheus Gamp and Andromeda Gamp.
He is the father of Ariadne Gamp as was once married to Nadine Pinn, after getting together at school. Although they still talk, they are most definitely better off divorced.
