Devia Orbis

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Devia Orbis is a publishing house specialising in travel guides and associated literature. It began in the United Kingdom and now has a great number of writers on the books who are constantly updating a range of guides for witches and wizards who want to travel and see the magical, and muggle world from a magical perspective.

Headquarters

Devia Orbis has offices in Portsmouth, where it began. The office itself is an old ship which is docked at quay 3 and 7/8ths - not visible by Muggles.

Name and Brand

The term Devia Orbis is Latin. "Devia" is "lonely, unfrequented places" or "out-of-the-way roads" much like the modern use of 'deviate'. "Orbis" is "world" and the company has a cheeky nod to the Muggle's "Lonely Planet" brand.

Staff

Employment opportunities with Devia Orbis varies from editorial roles, drawing together research and submissions from the writers suitable for publication in Portsmouth. Some of the editors and writers may also be multilingual to produce the non-English copies of guides. Then there are the researchers, kept on commission, out finding and recording places to go. There are also a handful of sales staff who travel to sell the Guides to bookshops in countries around the world, especially the foreign language translations.
