Muggly the Bear

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Muggly the Bear & Friends is an award-winning WWN program aimed at young, pre-Hogwarts age children. Each episode involves Muggly, a friendly, Muggle-loving bear with an enormous heart but not many wits, as he explores the difference between right and wrong alongside his large collection of animal, creature, and human friends. A running theme is that Muggly often gets lost or into trouble while chasing down pots of honey.

The wireless show is known for its liberal, pro-Muggle bent, its catchy musical numbers, and its willingness to walk the line by including controversial social themes. Muggly plush toys and musical albums are also popular. The show often does holiday and awareness specials, which include such classics as "Muggly the Bear & What To Do If a Dark Wizard Tries to Apparate You Away" and "Muggly the Bear & Why You Shouldn't Go Home with Beautiful Women Strangers Who Can Shoot Fireballs From Their Fingers."

Kurby Bagnold's younger sister, Rosheen Bagnold, is one of its main writers.

Recent Seasons

The 2010 season of the show caused considerable controversy by introducing a new character called Wendy the Werewolf. She is known for her signature theme song, "I'm Only Hairy Sometimes."

Early press for the 2012 season has indicated that it will introduce a new character, Marty the Muggle. Marty moves to Muggly's neighborhood and becomes close friends with Wendy, who agonizes over whether or not to tell her clueless new friend about her life as both a witch and a werewolf. Early chatter from critics of the show suggest that Marty's name is an attempt to reclaim the name from Martin Miggs the Mad Muggle, an early 1990s comic book that has more recently become criticized for perpetuating anti-Muggle stereotypes.
