Cyrus Hawthorne is an Unspeakable and current Deputy Head of Eldritch & Profane.
His speciality is Death and Blood Magic. He has worked at the Institute of the Alleghenies and Coven Cascadia. Cyrus worked under EPA Deputy Head Yavin Morgenthau in the 90s, and the two formed a close but argumentative working relationship.
On first impression he may come across as blasé. Underneath that Cyrus is a very intense personality with great love for his work (and little else). He is ruthless when he has to be and enjoys playing mind games.
Cyrus is a divorcee, estranged from his children, and regrets not paying more attention to that aspect of his life.
His father was a muggleborn who inherited muggle farmland which was, in turn, used to farm magical herbs and insects. Cyrus spent much of his youth looking down on his father's relatively humble vocation, but has a more kindly opinion these days.
Role as Deputy Head
As Deputy Head, Hawthorne pushes against CAWW influence in the Agency but is often overruled by its Head, Augustina Flores. He struggles to maintain the boundaries of independent research groups while appeasing the politicians who have helped him maintain his position.
As a result, Cyrus often finds himself in the position of having to enforce policies that run counter to his own beliefs.
