Physical Description:
Soma stands a little over five feet tall and is comfortable with her height - small but mighty, is what she thinks. And indeed she is quite small, though far from dainty. She sports broad shoulders for her build, and boasts the strong legs of a swimmer.

Her hair is dark and long, often worn loose or in a tidy ponytail. Much of her wardrobe consists of contemporary muggle fashions - perhaps more nylon and gym fashion than your average muggle savvy wix, having been raised by a member of Futurist movement.

Though she spent much of her younger years worried about her looks, often wishing she were fairer or for a flatter nose, Soma has grown into her confidence alongside a love for her roots. She has a pierced nose and likes to rock traditional South Asian pieces of jewellery. What little make-up she wears is colourful or straightforward, and she carries herself with aggressive confidence. She sports sharp, painted nails.

Personality Description:
In spite of being short, Soma always gives the impression of looking down her nose at you. She has her friends and her interests, and she's indifferent everything outside  that sphere. Always with this is an awareness of what is or isn't acceptable to say around certain people; only a handful know her true opinions on politics and social norms.

Soma understands having to play a certain role around authority figures, peers, and so on. These people see a version of her that is intelligent and catty, and occasionally preoccupied by frivolous things. Those who are paying closer attention will see what her targets see: meanness.

It gives her a kick to put people down if they seem to jubilant, and she is the first to want to tone down radical notions of "acceptance" as a group. Soma doesn't like too much change from the status quo except for when the change might personally benefit her. She is especially distrustful of queerness, after her mother came out as a lesbian and filed for divorce when Soma was twelve.

Despite this dislike for change, she is slowly growing to support her father's views on Futurism. Soma believes that wizarding society - and even her field of magical architecture - would benefit from integration with muggle society. She also believes that her knowledge of muggle society puts her above wixes who are less informed on those topics.

Soma enjoys her work as an apprentice, and devotes great energy to her studies. Even her hobbies, art and sculpting, seem to play peripheral roles in the overall desire to become a famous magical architect.  She also enjoys muggle hobbies - watching internet videos, coding pogrammes, and playing handheld video games.

History:
Soma Adarshpal was born in Pondicherry India to the wizard Adarshpal. Her mother, Devi, had passed away in childbirth. Soma was not destined to have much time with her father either - he died when she was two, in a duelling accident in Mumbai, where he had moved to escape painful memories of his wife.

Adarashpal's brother and sister-in-law, Ramakrishnan and Sita, adopted Soma as their own. They personally travelled to Mumbai to collect their new charge, and brought Soma to her new home in Stratford, London.

CHILDHOOD
Soma grew up a little lonely. Her father was a very busy lawyer, trying to make a name for himself and found his own law firm. Her mother was a private Healer and kept odd hours. Their terrace house, with its tiny garden, was pleasant but often empty. She found herself visiting neighbours and friends from the muggle elementary school she attended.

She treasured what time she did spend with her parents. Sita got her interested in artistic things - they visited museums and workshops when they could. Ramakrishnan took his daughter out to movies, spoke at length with her about the wizarding world and muggle world, and the barriers between them.

HOGWARTS
It was at school that Soma's understanding of the world hardened. She left the protective bubble of her neighbourhood, where many other students were also South Asian, and entered a whiter sphere. Her trips to Diagon were glimmering baubles in memory but school was a hodgepodge of experiences.

Here the oft-solitary child learned about the cutthroat nature of cliques and class. Blood purity mattered, money mattered, race mattered. The idealism her parents instilled shattered - underneath it was a vicious personality, determined not to be the one left out or left behind.

Soma grew into life at Hogwarts easily enough once she understood its ways. She made a few friends and perhaps some enemies. She excelled at her studies because she liked them but also because it was a form of social currency in the house of Ravenclaw.

In her third year, Sita came out as a lesbian and left the family to be with her lover. It had been sudden - all she had given Soma was a heartfelt letter and an address for correspondence. The letter was read and burned. The address stuffed into a notebook that still collects dust. The incident had sealed Soma's viciousness with finality.

Soma's final years at Hogwarts were uneventful. As a Ravenclaw she has always taken pride in her studies, and so graduated with all the necessary NEWTs for her apprenticeship. She grew apart from many classmates in her final year, what with diverging values and interests, and became closer with those interested in Futurism.

ADULTHOOD (2015 - 2017)
As an adult, Soma has become closer to her father (Alistair Ramakrishnan) and attends Futurist meetings with him. Soma now fully believes in the integration between the muggle and magical realm; she has become sympathetic to the plight of muggles who could benefit from wizarding solutions, and she admires their architectural audacity in the face of non-magical limitations.

Although her father is fairly moderate, Soma herself thinks that radical thought is essential to the Futurist movement. She is not overly vocal about her views but it is not difficult to tell where her sympathies lie. Among friends and former schoolmates, she is more than likely to preach the word of a more harmonious muggle-magic world.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Soma is an apprentice working under Sorcerer Federico Márquez at Knareswick Phrontistery. Her work as an apprentice is split between attending lectures by Federico or other architects, group tutoring, and assisting on draftwork for ongoing architectural projects.

She and her fellow apprentices are often tasked with presentations, while also building a personal portfolio of ideas. Soma also assists Federico in archival work, which involves studying the plans and processes of old buildings, and organising them as part of Knareswick's resource library.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
After graduating from Hogwarts with the necessary qualifications for Knareswick, Soma took a year off to do a bit of travelling and soul-searching. She returned to the UK and applied for an apprenticeship in magical architecture, a famously difficult career path that can take up to seven years for full qualification.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Soma Adarshpal is an apprentice in magical architecture and a member of the Futurists movement. She is a clever witch who knows when to hold her tongue but is otherwise of a blunt, tactless personality. Soma believes that Futurism will save the magical world from stagnation and that wixes have a moral obligation to help muggles.
