Code of Conduct

• Absit Omen is for writers age 13+. Read our Privacy Policy
  
• Everyone at AO should be treated with respect.
• This community does not accept personal attacks, especially when it concerns race, religion, gender, sexuality, class, disability, appearance, age, or nationality.
• Harrassment of any kind is prohibited.
• Absit Omen is a safe space for liberal ideas. Our Discord and out-of-character topics reflect this.
• AO writers should, whenever possible, honor staff instructions concerning how things work on the forums.

Canon/Lore
Absit Omen takes place about 10 years after the events of the Harry Potter books. Content from the books, interviews with JKR, and Pottermore considered canon. Because Absit Omen has been active since 2008, we have amassed a great deal of our own ‘canon’ concerning the magical world which we have documented as well as we can in the AO Wiki. 


Content Rating & Sensitive Themes
Absit Omen uses the RPG Rating which typically lands between PG-13 and R.

Language : Swearing is permitted with some limitations.

• No slurs concerning race, gender, sexuality, religion, or disability.
• Extreme language like the f-word should be used sparingly, please.

Sexual Content: Some sexy stuff is allowed with some limitations.

• No explicit sex scenes on the boards, please.
• Rape, pedophilia, or any sort of non-consensual sexual content is strictly prohibited.

Violence: Writing about violence is permitted with some limitations.

• Torture, gratuitous violence, or lingering descriptions of gore are not permitted.

Sensitive Themes: Be considerate of other writers who may wish to prepare for or avoid certain topics by adding a content note at the beginning of threads or posts. Explore sensitive topics with respect.

Whenever a post of thread contains things that might be troubling to readers, mark the thread title with an 'M' and include a short content warning at the top of the post with a note about what’s coming up.


Curator Commitment

The Curating team is available to answer questions and guide members. The Curating team also enforces the Code of Conduct and may may temporarily or permanently ban offenders from the forum and any associated platforms like Discord or Twitter.
