[March 9th] After-Moon Siesta (Emma Prince)

on December 11, 2020, 12:43:22 PM

Another full moon gone, it of course took awhile to get out of the Ministry then upon getting back she had some leniencies, allowing for her to get some rest. Usually it involved her just going straight to her bed and sleeping for the entire day regardless of if she was expected to go to class that day, she did her best to make up for it the following days but she just didn't care, she wanted her sleep after a full moon.

Today was slightly different, although she didn't say anything upon leaving the Ministry...Which wasn't surprising, she tended to not say a single word upon leaving, usually from a mixture of shock and disgust. Ignoring any food on the way out that usually dragged on time to leave. It was annoying, took ages to leave, she just wanted to be anywhere else but there.

Today was going different, she didn't feel right, even with everything considered, she wasn't good with Floo or Apparition but even then she wasn't ill for hours afterwards. or ill in the cell in the ministry. Given that the Headmaster was no longer the school nurse she figured she didn't need to mention it to him, although she knew quite a few people who wouldn't bring problems up solely because he was the school nurse. Herself and some...non headmaster problems she didn't want him to know about. However seeing as the Infirmary was fully running again she figured it might be better to visit the new Healer.

So she did, Lucinda entered into the Infirmary, her eyes glanced to the windows and the cloudy afternoon it was. Dressed in her school uniform but fairly disorganized in that, she figured she didn't want to push her luck of trying to sleep all day by also disregarding the dress code.

"Hello? Any healer-home?" She asked out in a weak and somewhat hoarse voice.

Emma sat at her desk in the infirmary, making some notes on a student patient who'd left not long ago. One shoe was empty on the floor beneath her chair, her stockinged foot tucked under her other leg on the chair. She wore a light purple, ankle-length dress with a sunny yellow over-robe. The hem of the dress swayed slightly as her dangling foot swung.

She'd been back at Hogwarts for almost a month and felt like she was finally making some headway into getting everything set up to her liking. The files were organized, potions and salves mostly replenished. A couple of cauldrons bubbled away in the workroom with more almost ready to be poured into vials.

Her greatest desire, a small private ward in the corner closest to her office, had gone up with hardly a hitch. A little coaxing of the exterior stone walls to extend and enclose, a door, and some extra beds from supplies. There were three beds in the ward, and Emma hoped to never need all of them at once, but they were there if necessary. Bright curtains hung from ceiling to floor between each bed and framed landscapes decorated the walls. The windows on the two sides of the corner would admit light for much of the day. If anyone had to stay for an extended period, Emma wanted them to feel safe and comfortable.

Emma's head jerked up as she heard someone enter and call out. She quickly dropped her foot back into her shoe and stood, smoothing her robe as she strode out of the office.

'Yes, I'm here. How can I help you?'

Lucinda sighed, luckily the healer was female, not that she needed anything like that, but atleast if anything happens its easier to talk to then to a male healer, certainly more then the Headmaster playing nurse. But luckily it was just throwing up and nausea, maybe not that lucky but it was nicer to know.

Gently the pale Lucinda leaned against a bed and sighed as she held her stomach, hands idly trying to soothe it over to help herself from potentially being ill yet again, especially when it was burning her currently, she didn't think that was too good at all was it?

"I've thrown up a few times. Feeling like I could again at anytime, feel weak and it burns." She laid her fingers out as she said each point. She knew likely why she was feeling weak, she could hardly stomach food or feel any reason to eat, so that was likely as to why she was feeling weaker. Doesn't take a Healer to figure that out but maybe at the very least it was still better to point out her feeling weak to the woman.

"I only got back from the ministry about..." She wasn't even sure of the time, one thing she hated about Hogwarts was that electronics died quickly so she couldn't have a phone to tell the time, there were barely any clocks about, and of course, as she had the female uniform she was not entitled to pockets and she hated carrying around a big bag with her everywhere especially when it didn't have room for a watch due to the amount of books and potions materials needed in it.

"A few hours ago I think." She rested her head back to look upwards and sighed. "And no, I'm not pregnant before you ask. I am still a virgin with the good old abstinence is best way." That may of been too far but she wasn't in the mood to try to not be delicate with anything or to be polite, she was tired and sick.

'Oh, you poor thing,' Emma said sympathetically. 'Come sit down,' she added, gently guiding the student toward the nearest bed.

Just got back from the ministry...? Oh! 'You must be Lucinda? Or, erm...oh bugger.' She couldn't remember the other student's name. She hesitated a moment at the abrupt report on the status of her virginity. With a small smile Emma said, 'That wasn't one of my first questions, actually. Let's take care of the vomiting, then we can address the rest of it.'

Drawing her wand, Emma pointed it at Lucinda's mouth and said, 'Vomito Confuto.' A small black cloud hovered around her mouth. 'Let me know if that makes you feel worse and I'll lift it. Now tell me, do you normally have this sort of reaction after your shift?'

Sure it wasn't a question, school with lots of people between 16 and 18, no one wants to ask a professor or family member for anything, there must be alot of reports of pregnancy that just aren't noticed, unless the school really really is magical.

"Greer is the other one, younger then me." She says softly as she looked over the cloud hovering around her mouth, it was weird as hell, her head shifting side to side to see how well it followed her about the place. She'd need to remember that spell for some other time, would be nice if this happened again then she wouldn't need to go back to the Healer if she's throwing up again.

"Usually upon waking up. But it doesn't last. Otherwise its only if I swallow any type of meat now it gets forced back up an hour or two later." She didn't bring up that she's only had meat once since her first transformation, having had raw meat tossed into her cell on her first full moon and waking up with blood all around her, it took weeks before she even tried a sausage and she couldn't stomach it in the slightest.

She sighed and sat down on the bed slowly. "Maybe its the smell of students, all that crap boys pour over themselves thinking its a shower." It smelt foul to her but never caused more then gagging when it was strong.

'Greer, right. Thank you,' Emma said, repeating the name several times in her head to cement it in her memory. Wouldn't do to forget the student's name if she were in front of her. It was sheer luck that the one she had remembered had been correct. It would take her quite some time to learn all of the students' names and be able to recall them.

'So this happens every time after you shift?' Emma's brow furrowed. 'Have you ever mentioned it at the ministry? If it always happens, you may be having an adverse reaction to the Wolfsbane potion or some other environmental factor. And if it's getting worse, it could be a cumulative effect.'

One side of her lips quirked up at Lucinda's final comment. 'I don't blame you if that bothers you,' she said with a chuckle. 'Students do like to forego showers when they can.'

"Usually when I wake up." She replied with a nod. She went on for potential reasons of what could be making her throw up, was it wolfsbane? She supposed she could maybe, but its not as if much could happen about it if she was, she wasn't allowed to not take Wolfsbane, she'd asked about it already and got denied, and the recipe cannot be changed so if it did happen to be the Wolfsbane, it would have to continue.

Environmental? Maybe, its not like the conditions were great at all, underground in a horrible little cell after being herded in. She'd asked before for better cells but that wasn't allowed either, of course its safer to transport a frustrated werewolf over to Hogsmeade, then through a Floo network, then to the cells, then settle in there. Again as she's complained about, whats wrong with a cell deep in the forest, surely that must be better?

"I don't...know if getting worse but...this is the first time I've been like this." She said gently as she rested her head to stare down at herself.

She gave a small smile at the reply to the boys not showering, and gently hugged her stomach. "If it was something like that...wouldn't it happen before?" She wasn't sure if it was something that was getting worse due to repetition, its why she's not the Healer...and age. "By now I'd be passed out and hopefully dreaming of someone cute."

Emma listened to the girl's comments with her lips pursed to one side, gently tapping a finger against her cheek. Very mysterious, she thought. It didn't seem likely to be the Wolfsbane or the boys, as Lucinda pointed out herself, unless it was something that she was only down developing an allergy to.

'I think I'll need to do a bit of investigation, Lucinda. It sounds as if perhaps something new was introduced to your environment. Let me write to the Ministry and see if I can find out anything.

For now, why don't you lie down in the private ward there? Just take the first bed. Are you still feeling nauseous? Or did that spell help?'

"My environment?" She frowned, she didn't like the wording, she knew she wasn't talking about her like she was some sort of zoo animal, having her own little environment but it was a weird thing to say still. She didn't like noticing this stuff, but annoyingly she was and it...just felt weird to have it said.

She stood shakily and slowly walked off to the other beds as instructed, she didn't have the energy for this, she was tired and just wanted to sleep, preferably without throwing up constantly as she tried with no risk of choking to death in her sleep. That thought terrified her, atleast the throwing up right now was solved. She gave a nod in response to the question given to her, she wasn't feeling as bad now.

"The cell is the same...its always just some plain walls really and nothing really inside of there." She groaned gently as she proceeded to lay down on the bed, a sigh leaving her as she rested on it. "Nice bed." She said softly while trying to stay awake for now. "Whats to stop someone else from just walking into this area though?"

Those cells sounded dreadful. Surely there was no good reason that the Ministry couldn't make the poor werewolves comfortable when they had to shift? But if they were as spare as Lucinda suggested, it didn't seem likely that something problematic could have been introduced to the environment.

Emma followed the girl to make sure she was settled, offering a reassuring smile at her question. 'I'll shut this door, and I'll be right in my office next door with that door open. And it's not usually that busy, so it's not likely anyone would come in unless they also needed a quiet place to lie down. That's the reason I set up this ward.

I'm going to write, well, whomever is in charge of doling out the Wolfsbane and securing you during the full moon at the Ministry. I might also need to speak to the headmaster. Do I have your permission to discuss your condition with others? I'll take great care to keep it to the absolute minimum of pertinent details.'

She was closing the door to the others, that was good, although the door to the main office will be open, she supposed that'll do, however it would be odd, sure in her room there were several other girls sharing it, but it still felt fairly open to others. How many entrances to her office were there? What if someone needed to visit the office while she was sleeping?

It's not as if she had a problem of people seeing her sleep so much, she did go to a cell monthly, she assumed they were checked on at points to see if people were transformed back or alive or needed medical care, herself tending to be found curled in a corner waiting for them to open up with her stuff. It just felt...vulnerable. And it was a more public place then the cells or the dorm rooms.

"What if I have guests? Or more likely, you have guests? Must have someone after you right?" She tried to say jokingly but she was almost ready to crash. "What if I catch you sneaking someone in?" She yawned before taking off her jacket and shoes, she didn't want to completely shed but she needed something to warm her up after sleeping, should never sleep in your clothes. "Or does your office have two doors?"

Emma gave the student a slightly puzzled look as she seemed to ramble on about visitors and other people. 'Don't worry, Lucinda. You're alone here, and no one will come in without permission. I'll be in my office next door, so if you need anything just call. This door will be closed, but mine will be open so I can hear you.

Try to get some rest, and I'll check back with you after I send that letter.' She started to leave, hand on the door knob, but paused and looked back over her shoulder. 'By the way, who is it that's in charge of you during the full moon?' It seemed better to say that than 'who locks you up when you turn into a werewolf.'

Lucinda shrugged idly, although the gesture may of been missed as she was laying on it, kicking her shoes off to make sure she didn't get the bed dirty or muddied or whatever it was. Also just to be more comfortable in general, her body slinked its way up to the pillow, she couldn't be bothered to move enough to go under the sheets, nor did she fancy removing layers to allow her to sleep under the covers.

"Its the Ministry, probably someone who is paid too much." She said softly. "The Headmaster takes us there now, then we check in, are meant to hand in our wands, then we sit around for a little bit, enter a cell and rest is as you'd expect. In the morning we are allowed to dress, get out, have food and leave." She didn't take the food though, she couldn't stomach the idea. Even as her body almost screamed at her to eat something after several days now of not eating.

She rested her head on the pillow and shut her eyes, she said she'd be back after sending the letter, hopefully if anything it led to herself being allowed to go anywhere but the ministry, cramped corridors deep underground, dozens of Werewolves all close together before going into the cells. Anywhere but there would be preferable to her.

Emma dimmed the lights in the small ward and closed the door as she headed to her office, hoping the quiet and privacy would help Lucinda feel better. She felt a bit helpless at the moment.

Since Lucinda wasn't sure who she should contact at the Ministry, Emma decided to change her focus. Upon entering her office, Emma was pleased to see that her spectacled owl was resting on his perch. Sitting at her desk, she pulled a small roll of parchment from a drawer and dipped a glass pen in a bottle of ink. Emma held the twisted tip of the pen to her cheek for a moment before beginning to write.

Headmaster, I'd be grateful if you could meet with me in the infirmary at your earliest convenience. I need to discuss a situation regarding a student.

Thank you,
Healer Emma Prince

She signed her name with a flourish, then rolled the parchment and wrote the headmaster's name on the outside of the scroll. 'Sev,' she said quietly, not wanting to startle the owl. He woke with a small hoot and blinked at Emma blearily. 'I need you to take this to the headmaster, please. Then you can go back to sleep.'

Emma pulled a treat from a small pouch that hung from the perch and gave it to the owl as she tied the note to his leg, then she took him on her arm and carried him to one of the infirmary windows.

Severus affectionately bumped his head briefly against Emma's before taking off in search of the note's recipient.

The owl found the Headmaster exactly where he belonged this Friday afternoon in the History of Magic classroom that had for many years been haunted by Professor Binns but was how haunted by the burly Professor Greyfriar with those dark circles under his eyes. He'd felt well enough after a full-moon werewolf's transformation to manage a day of classes, but only just.  He'd planned on some rest this weekend, but a note from the Healer carried dual importance.

Knox made his way over presently, putting on smiles for the students in the hallways. He found the long Infirmary with its many beds mostly empty. He didn't call out because he knew the sound of the door on its hinges would be enough to announce him in the cavernously quiet space. He paused to pull straight the bunched corner of a blanket.
