Physical Description: With long brown hair and a smile far too large for her face, Gloria stands at about 5’4’’ with a slender build. She grew out of a bit of baby fat, her face in particular becoming more defined and angular. There’s a gleam to her hair with copper highlights, the aforementioned teeth crowding in her smile, and the glint to her blue eyes. Efforts to look pretty with makeup and hair care haven’t kept, as short of being able to eat combs her hair lies everywhere in a nice but disorganized mussy do.
There is certainly vivaciousness to Gloria’s being, from rose tinted cheeks and honeyed voice to miss-matched painted toenails and ‘strong ankles’ (according to her grandmother at least, whatever that really means). It also shows in her fashion sense, an ecletic mix of colors and fabrics mostly with a home-made or hand-crafted feel. She likes knits over satin, beaded jewelry over precious stones, more skirts compared to slacks. She has the one pair of hard labor trousers, though the rest of her clothes need to take punishment as well. There’s a klutziness Gloria has (mostly) grown out of that leaves blouses or dresses prone to a spill. She doesn’t collect as many shoes compared to some girls but she likes best ones supportive yet thin enough to feel the ground underfoot.
Getting her to dress up isn’t impossible but more likely than anything else you’ll find girly girl Gloria up with bed slept hair, sometimes wrestled in place with a hair band. She accents with either Gryffindor accessories or other strong colors.
Personality Description: If you thought Gryffindors couldn't get more outspoken, enthusiastic, or mischievous you haven't met Gloria Gibbon. Gloria exhibits both the best and worst in her house, but mostly the best. Though she hadn't any particular bias going under the Sorting Hat, spending more time asking it questions.
That little anecdote sums up quite a bit about Gloria's personality. She possesses an inherent curiosity and bounciness, call it spunk or call it maniac energy, that keeps her going forward full throttle no matter the drawback. ‘Stasis’ isn't a part of her verbs. Gloria is always looking to try new things, make new friends and find new adventures in all areas of her life. Schoolwork? Signed up for all the electives minus Muggle Studies in her third year, so what if her grades dip down to Troll? Gloria takes an academic or physical pratfall with a smile to her face, brushing off the dirt and starting over.
And that's not even getting into her extended hobbies or clearing out blocks of time in her schedule to hang out with friends. She flits from place to place, club to club, from lakeside to the highest Hogwarts tower like a zephyr. Only a Body Bind hex would keep her rooted to any spot. To be cooped up in the castle all day, all work and no play, makes Gloria a frustrated sort. Though she is very compassionate and supportive of her friends and would happily sacrifice her time and energy for their efforts. Being the study buddy, book carrier and shoulder to cry on to any friend in need.
Gloria is at her best with other people, though that depends on the kind of people. She’s a true pal to her friends and an annoying obstacle to her rivals. And, perhaps, truthfully, when taking her past into account with a really long look, Gloria has a
strong tendency of forgetting to look before she leaps. Half the time you could trace back Gloria’s problems to herself.
If there is a script to Gloria’s ‘madness of method’ she’s the hero of her own story, what with the zeal behind her nigh impenetrable eagerness. While she doesn’t always keep the follow-through to really be righteous she will speak up and speak out towards whatever slight she sees, unafraid of how others would view her (and to the exasperation of some teachers, not catching the hint about striving off topic in class). There’s still plenty of trouble a troublemaker like Gloria could make but as she’s
matured tried to be lest childish Gloria strives to make the good out of a bad situation. By dint of being in Gryffindor house and her own audacity at times, Gloria does have a bit of a temper. Her anger is softer (in volume) compared to others in the house. Sometimes she’s unreadable for why she’s suddenly taken offense at a friend or just as suddenly forgiven and made up with them in her head before they even notice. Some of her plans or arguments in the name of ‘payback’ seem contradictory to what she protested about last week.
And infrequently, Gloria’s gusto may drop like a lack of wind in the sails, moodiness uncommon to her typically sunny demeanor with a harsh frown and harsher words to others. But even with her faults, having yet to get an even keel of her emotions and aspirations, Gloria always strives to be a good and decent person. Once she realizes she is in the wrong she will apologize. Better to forgive than forget.
Speaking of forgiveness…
History: Clarence and Evangeline Gibbon are the white sheep of their family. Or rather, the Gibbon family had a particular black sheep, or more like a wolf in black sheep's clothing. Clarence's older brother was a
Death Eater, one actually responsible for casting the Dark Mark over the school on the night Dumbledore died. He would be another casualty of the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, getting caught in the crossfire from another Death Eater's killing curse.
It's a small but significant blot for the current Gibbon generation, so Clarence and Evangeline could be said to be making strive to distance themselves from this DE relation, especially for how they raise their children. He is a healer at St. Mungo’s and she an ambassador that often travels to foreign Ministries. Gloria is the oldest of her sibling(s) being born at the end of January in 1995, in the middle of when the four champions of the TriWizard Tournament were mulling over their golden eggs. This made Gloria about two when the Death Eaters first infiltrated Hogwarts so she never knew of this Gibbon. Her parents went into hiding during the war, emerging into the new age of peace as the most generous and giving magical folk they could be. Both volunteered their time to various cleanup and rebuild efforts, giving to charity and even fostering a few students displaced from their families when their guardians died in the war. The Gibbons are not the richest or poorest around, living comfortably and valuing things other than material wealth.
This spirit of dedication to community and friends is so instilled in Gloria that, underneath it all, she is a fundamentally good person even if her antics get a little long in the tooth. The Gibbons are also unique for their recent muggle leanings, twofold in that they go without magic for select periods and are mildly religious. Gloria did not touch a wand until it was time to pair her with one before school. The Gibbons still semi-regularly attend a local parish that helped them when they were in hiding. Since going to Hogwarts Gloria only attends service during the summer, being as resolute in faith as a witch can be at fifteen. Call it God or some higher power, but Gloria genuinely believes that there is a Creator from before the time there were even wizards. It doesn't come up at school much but it may explain her core convictions of loyalty, honor and altruism, trying to improve on past wrongs. Also, many a time praying in the parish Gloria has had to backpedal if her prayers start off with 'Oh Lord Our Godric.'
Beyond being parishioners, the Gibbons don't mingle much with muggles compared to mingling with those in the magical community. They don't have electronics or many 'modern' conveniences granted by muggle technology. It's enough that Gloria didn't feel the need to take Muggle Studies though she's always asking her muggle-raised friends about telly programs she's heard about second hand. Altogether Gloria had a happy childhood, suited to the whimsy of life in magical Britain. As the Gibbons caught up with friends and extended family in the post war years Gloria was brought along to many different places in magical Britain, often wandering on her own to find different plants and creatures. Given her mother’s work sometimes the family has holidays abroad, making Gloria reasonably traveled.
Coming to Hogwarts led to Gloria's growing mischievous streak, along with childish habits she may or may not have grown out of by the time of her OWL year (she obliviously thinks she has). She was the student of many questions (sometimes pointless) in-n-out of many groups (thus jointless) with ever present fervor (always relentless).
Come fifth year she’s kind of put her foot in mouth from her bevy of electives. Time to buckle down and see what she can continue into with NEWTs. Though really, Gloria Gibbon buckle down? You’re more likely to see Gloria with buckled shoes, buckled coat and buckled hat like a Plymouth pilgrim (and someone will have to tell Gloria that is what the male pilgrims wore, only according to holiday decorations).

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Gloria is cut from the red and gold cloth of Gryffindor; passionate, adventurous, full of vim and vinegar, salt and pep…pepper?
Who else is in the mood for chips?? She’s got that flame of the lion house, though in actuality hers was a longer sorting if falling short of a true hatstall. On occasion (or blue cheese moons, whatever’s sooner) she can be more grounded than her peers, or is at least much more grounded back at home. Traits valued by other houses round out her personality; the curiosity and wit of a Ravenclaw; an ingraining (once she gets there) work ethic and awareness of a Hufflepuff; and the ambitions of a Slytherin (52-half hearted attempts do make a whole, right?)
But it’s her energetic, loyal and passionate qualities (plus or minus a few impulses) that make her a Gryffindor. Or as Gloria would say, very Gryff.
Writing Sample: ((but seriously folks go give the former author's sample a read in that link, even though it isn't mine))Sum up your character in one paragraph: Gloria Gibbon, a good hearted yet equally Gryffindor rascal, as bold and daring you may find in her house, yet always there for a friend. Never stays still and is always seeking new challenges, discovers and hobbies for betterment or not. Almost always perpetually sunny, the hero of her own story indeed.
