on February 28, 2012, 05:42:48 PM

Roger Augustus Lemon
Shopkeeper and Assistant at The Billy Goat

Character Birthday & Age: 6th of January, 1991. 27 years old in 2018.
City & Country of Birth: Glasgow, Scotland. United Kingdom.
Blood Purity: Pureblood (Squib)
Alma Mater: Home Tutored
Wand: N/A

Physical Description:
Roger is a little over six foot tll. He doesn't think much of his looks but he's handsome enough, and obliviously charismatic. The squib carries himself with a casual, inconspicuous grace. Hands in pockets and blue eyes peering out from underneath a tousled mess of hair. He can have a bit of a swagger these days, when he's flirting or dealing.

His sense of style is simple. Roger likes his jeans, joggers, comfy slacks and t-shirts. To say nothing of jumpers knitted by old Lemon ladies looking out for their poor Squib relative. Lately he has been experimenting, punching up basic outfits with a bit of colour or an interesting accessory. His ever-present leather jacket has been joined by one or two other pieces of outerwear, thrifted but well-chosen.

An avid rugby player in early adolescence, Roger is fairly well-built and is no stranger to the occasional brawl. He is a hardy, seasoned fighter-- a south paw and regular at Burke & Bear. His voice is typically husky and low, with a very slight Scottish undercurrent that goes unnoticed by most.

Personality Description:
Roger Lemon is a relatively quiet young man. He is emotionally conflicted, in terms of his family and his place in Wizarding society, but is very careful to keep most of these feelings bottled up. He can sometimes be a very private individual and resents people who would pry into his life.

For the most part, however, Roger knows how to get along with folk. Approachable - the guy you can easily complain to about your day or ask your nonsensical drunken questions.

Travelling around the country has imbued him with a nonchalant, independent streak. He could uproot and leave at any moment if he had to, and still find his way in the world. His fightercock ways are more or less behind him, after one bad fight too many. Nowadays it takes a little more incentive to provoke the old temper.

Roger finds it much more therapeutic to spend that energy at a muggle boxing gym or in the beds of various transient lovers. As protection against wixes, he does invest in a protective talisman or two, and understands the importance of disarming a magical opponent. You only need to be hexed once to take your vulnerability for granted.

In his free time, Roger is a casual reader - mostly popular muggle science, murder mysteries, sci-fi. He isn't very good at cooking but likes to do it anyway, and can sometimes pull off a decent dish.

History:
CHILDHOOD

The Lemons are an average family with very little wealth. James Lemon, one of the last purebloods of his own family, married a rather attractive witch from the MacFusty clan in the early 90s-- they were wed in the city of Glasgow, where they spent the first few years of their marriage. James and Mary were both fairly inclined towards one another and neither of them were interested in the dangerous business of caring for magical creatures. After the birth of their first son, the couple decided to move down to Oxfordshire and start up a farm.

It was some years before they were able to realize that their son, Roger Lemon, possessed no magical ability. He was a squib. They went on to have two other children (both daughters) who were fortunate enough to be 'proper' witches. Gertrude and Agatha Lemon, like their mother once was, are both in Hufflepuff. Roger grew up on the farm for most of his childhood. He attended general knowledge lessons at a home in Oxford city alongside magical children, although his connection with most of them was glancing at best. It was only when he turned twelve that Roger became friends with a pair of twin sisters in the year below him: Raine and Sanya Almasy.

ADOLESCENCE/SCHOOL

They befriended each other just as the girls were being sent off to begin at Hogwarts and when Roger was being forced to start helping out on the farm (now that he was growing too old for lessons). The Lemon farm specialized in agriculture that was in particular demand within the wizarding community. Pumpkins, dangerous plants and rare herbs. As the family had little aversion to muggle culture, Roger attended a community school in the county... or at least he did on most days. He grew into the habit of cutting classes and only appeared in order to participate in sports or club activities. As he grew older, Roger started learning how to ride muggle motorcycles; something his parents turned a blind eye to.

In the year he turned fifteen, Roger's uncle came to visit the farm. Arthur Lemon was an unpleasant wizard in his 30's who largely disagreed with his brother's tolerance of muggle life. A former Slytherin with unstable tendencies, he peppered most conversations with talk of pureblood Elitism. He was also rather bitter to find out that his nephew was a frequent visitor at the Almasy residence-- a wealthy Russian family led by a pureblood Almasy who married a muggle born witch. That summer, a violent incident occurred in the fields just outside of Woodstock involving Roger, his uncle and the twins. It resulted in the death of Sanya Almasy.

Ever since the incident, Roger has had little to no connection with the Almasy family. He had been an especially good friend to Raine, almost young lovers, but the death of the Ravenclaw caused a seemingly irreparable rift between the two. He walked away from the incident with a bloody nose and an order to keep away. Roger still feels guilty for Sanya's death; he believes himself to be responsible for it, even though it was his uncle who had committed the murder.

2010 - 2012

After a bad confronation with Raine Almasy, Roger took off from London once more to travel around the UK visiting relatives and doing odd jobs. He's worked pubs, discotechs, coffee shops and the occassional role of drug dealers - mostly in the muggle worlds. At the start of 2012 Roger returned to London.

He picked up shifts at various muggle spots around town but mainly worked part-time at Calaveras as bartender. Roger also worked as a casual gillyweed dealer - it was an open secret that he sold the good stuff.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
With the legalisation of gillyweed, Roger was able to leave bartending days behind him and land a job as one of Billy's first assistants at The Billy Goat. He wasn't just a pretty face and friendly tongue; he had a good head on his shoulders, eventually helping Billy with other aspects of the business besides selling. He managed the books and clientele lists, and came up with the idea of providing a more tailored gillyweed experience for certain patrons of the Goat.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Although he has only been drifting around the country for about a good year, Roger has become independent and adept at what he does. He associates with both muggles and wizards, often switching between the two communities in search of some form of livelihood. Official jobs he has held up until now: Coffee barista, sales assistant, ice-cream parlour attendee, janitor, motorcycle mechanic and waiter.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Roger Lemon is a pureblood squib who, after wandering around tending bar and dealing gillyweed, has settled down to a legit job as shopkeeper at The Billy Goat. You can find him doing his thing at parties or going rounds at his boxing gym, Burke & Bear. Roger is pretty friendly and easy to get along with, though he's not one for chatter. He knows when to smile and shut up. On the whole he supports the rights of squibs, vampires, and werewolves.

The Last Five Years...

Character History 2013 - 2017:
Life was business as usual for Roger Lemon, tending bar at Calaveras and dealing gillyweed around Camden Town. He continued to grow closer to the folk of Camden Town while keeping out of trouble, though he did not seem to have much direction in life.

This changed after the legalisation of gillyweed. Roger quit bartending and became an important part of Billy Ismail's kelp shop, where Billy and her family became as good as his own. Having a legal, official job allowed Roger to reconcile and contextualise his status as a squib with the wizarding world.

In his social life, Roger also became friendlier with the many wixes who frequented the boxing gym below, including Ambrose Pepper. He would go on to move into a flat in Hiraeth with Ambrose, Kelvin Watkins and Gabe dela Cruz. He has made up with Raine Almasy over the last five years - not quite friends but nonetheless friendly.
