Title Request: Francis Pepper, Hogwarts Governor

Reply #1 on December 24, 2014, 12:12:40 PM

Special Title Request

Character Name: Francis Pepper
Title Applying For: Hogwarts Governor
Character Biography: Biography

What Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?:
Francis is a father of two Hogwarts students (Ambrose, about to start his fifth year, and Timothy (NPC), about to start his third year) and uncle to two (Zeta, about to start her fifth year, and Eta about to start her third year) and cousins with the Hughes (Linus about to start second year, Elysia about to start seventh year).

He is a well respected member of the Department of Mysteries for several decades, and has always attended careers fairs and offered to speak at relevant events, or offer advice to applicants.

As his children have worked their way through Hogwarts Francis has taken a keen interest in making sure they get their best out of their time. Even when he does not agree with the teaching through the eyes of his children, he has supported the school, as he believes they do have the best interest of students in mind.

What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:?
To always put the student's wellbeing at the forefront of decisions. There may be budget decisions, politics and favouritism between governors, staff and old wizarding families involved with Hogwarts, but the most important is that the students are safe and their education is the best it can be.

After this, Francis considers active and engaged attendance with regular meetings, and being available to contact out of hours for those emergency meetings is of importance to the role. His job does mean he is available in the evenings (and, well, if he wasn't for any reason... ahem... he'd make time)

Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:
It was at that moment he locked eyes - or rather - locked his two with the one belonging to Professor Kesali.

Francis had read a description from Ambrose of the man, after a particularly grumpy letter from his son. Apparently the Professor with bright white blonde hair and one eye taught Charms and Ambrose did not like him very much at all, but perhaps not as badly as he hated Professor Storm, but from what Tim wrote, that wasn't unusual. Tim had however written with praises for Kesali, that he seemed to love teaching the second years, and that Charms was a little less Durmstrang this year now that Professor Kirchelener had been replaced.

Never a man to entirely believe everything his sons selected to put in their letters, Francis raised his glass to the man, and once they had come within closer distance of each other, held out his hand.
"You must be Professor Kesali." Francis smiled in a friendly manner, "My sons, Ambrose and Timothy have mentioned you in their letters, but now I see you, I wonder if I remember you from the Ministry a while back..." He tilted his head, trying to remember, "Francis Pepper, good to meet you."

- Meeting Professor Kesali for the first time, in support and most grateful for his teaching and extra time for Ambrose

He mentioned you both attended a talk on werewolves that a group of students had organised with Professor Ó Móráin. Did you find the speakers interesting, who did you agree with? Tim mentioned a lot of the students weren't sure to attend, but that your Defence Against the Dark Arts professor had been telling all the classes it wasn't very optional, even though it was. Werewolves are a part of that subject, so I'm sure he felt it was suitably educational, even if Tim didn't necessarily agree in his letter…?

Perhaps I should have a word with this Professor Storm fellow? Or have you spoke to Professor Levartian? She might be able to have a word with the man and get him to see sense that it isn't helping. I am encouraged you are really enjoying Care of Magical Creatures and History of Magic. What about Astronomy? As you know, Professor Trishna and I often correspond on other matters, and I find him a most understanding and patient man, so undoubtedly he would extend additional assistance to you.

- Letters to Ambrose, mentions of Professors, and being fair despite Ambrose's claims they are not!

Timothy wrote to me not long ago and expressed how much he is enjoying your Astronomy lessons. I am pleased he is captivated, there is hope he will follow the family trade yet, though his aspirations to be a healer are equally admirable. Just do let me know if Ambrose causes any damage, though he wrote similarly to explain Astronomy is one of his favoured classes - mostly for not having to raise his wand within it.

I write hoping all is well at Hogwarts after yesterday's events. The Prophet is full of these attacks, and it is topic of conversation for everyone here. I wish I could speak further on it, but I only hope you, your colleagues and students are all unhurt. I always believed Hogwarts to be fairly impenetrable, and are there not aurors patrolling too?

Parents here are in a frenzy - some are talking of pulling their children out like in the Voldemort years - given the murder and now this. Have you found many following through with this consideration? I heard the Headmistress is not even at Hogwarts presently, is there any truth in that claim?

- Letters to Tapendra around the Ides of March incident and offering his support and thanks for Tapendra's work at Hogwarts

Character History 2013 - 2017:

Francis Pepper is still married to Gabrielle Pepper, living in Gabrielle’s family home in Wiltshire. He is still working for the Department of Mysteries as a specialist in time, constructing time turners. Theta, his niece, still works alongside him, though has taken time out to have her children.

Though his sons are no longer students at the school, Francis has remained a governor there, in anticipation of his daughters attending, and because he feels his input is appreciated. He’s had his reservations over Ignan has Headmaster, as he didn’t agree with the wizard’s interactions with Ambrose, but Gabrielle’s unwavering support and more time together on a personal level has settled his conscience.

With the revelations from the Futurist attacks of Halloween 2012, and the possibility of time beyond the veil, Francis has become more involved with Mysteries research, and is part of the Department’s international exchange of knowledge. He has hosted foreign unspeakables and has even taken the odd international trip himself where it has been possible.

Francis has remained on the periphery of the Futurist movement. He is not at all pro the actions of 2012, but he remains curious about the combination of the best of both worlds and the experimentation between. However, for the sake of his job, and having seen the other side of the movement, he keeps the core of the movement firmly at arm’s length.

At home, both his sons have moved out. Ambrose having finished his apprenticeship with Beast Division and now a full time beast handler, and Tim busy with his healers training at St Mungo’s. Francis is incredibly proud of them both and looks forward to Sunday lunches to catch up with them.

Meanwhile, Amelia, his first daughter with Gabrielle, is now six and inquisitive as ever. The couple have welcomed a second daughter into the world now too, Mina Jane, sometimes known as Mimi, named after both their mothers. Pooling childcare between the extended family is common, especially with Theta’s daughters, and Monty’s children all grown up.

Summary: One paragraph to be used as overall character summary and in wiki

Francis is content in his marriage and growing family. A skilled unspeakable with time as his speciality, he has embraced the international cooperation of his fellow unspeakables. He is fiercely proud of his sons and daughters. He keeps Futurist interest at arms length.
