He has well proportioned features, inherited from his mother, he likes to think, which give him the look of a friendly sort. As a teenage Hogwarts student, his sandy brown hair often needed more of a wash than it got, and he suffered with acne in winter, though potions have cleared that up considerably by his third year. At school through fourth year, Ambrose was patiently waiting for his body to have that bit of growth that all boys got. His feet and hands were oversized to the rest of him slightly, which made him a little clumsy. He was longing to be taller - even a few inches, he wasn't fussed. During fifth year his body grew at a rate of knots and he shot up several inches like he was not intending to stop. Now at seventeen, and the same age as the Hogwarts sixth years, he is still growing, now 5ft 9, and broadening out the fitter he becomes. Ambrose's eyes are large and blue. When he was younger he hated the fact that when combined with his soft expression, he could pass for a girl with a wig. He thinks they are most unbecoming in a man, was self conscious enough about his speech without lady-like lips to emphasize things. The broader and stronger he becomes, the less he dwells on this, as he is finally growing into things - not exactly the ugly duckling, but somewhat.Ambrose in his school yearsPersonality Description:Ambrose means well, he really does, he's just a little slower than the majority of the population. Gullible to a point of insanity, he holds onto the words of the likes of his former classmate Winifred Oliver like its gospel. He fell for all the sarcastic jokes the Professors used in lessons, and subsequently got a very twisted view of the world. Now he has progressed beyond the classroom he is becoming much more streetsmart. Though, his Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures like to tease him just as much, he is also their little brother as an apprentice. They take their big brother duties seriously, introducing Ambrose to adult wizarding life.Ambrose is incredibly protective about his brother, who is two years his junior. Tim is a Ravenclaw, far more academic than Ambrose will ever be, and with aspirations to become a top class healer. Ambrose was convinced that Tim would be torn to shreds at Hogwarts in his first year year. He was most upset when his brother was not sorted into Gryffindor too, so he could watch him all day. He frequently bowled into Tim's conversations and quizzed him later to ask if the people were being nice to him, or that he doesn't much like the look of the girls Tim was speaking to, and that he'll sort them out. Tim learned quickly not to even let Ambrose entertain the thought of 'sorting out'. While at school, Ambrose would drive any more academic housemate or classmate spare with his questions. He'd forget what he asked, and repeated things often, chipping in his own warped reality of the world and anecdotes of things he believed to be true, but were hideously wrong. In his professional career he is much more careful who he relays these to, a little shy about it, and has begun to learn to laugh at his own shortcomings and misunderstandings. He is thankfully much more focused on his duties and learning everything there is to know. For when Ambrose is really interested in something, he turns into a sponge. On the plus side, Ambrose has never ever meant anyone any harm. He gets too tongue tied to insult anyone effectively! He is surprisingly adept at dealing with people who are upset, sitting and listening to things, and always nodding along to their side of the story. Generally jolly in his outlook, happy to be with friends, family, especially his Muggle relatives on his mother's side, Ambrose only turns gloomy when the anxiety of spellcasting gets too much. His tongue ties itself in knots, and its usual to see him carting himself off to the hospital hut due to performing the wrong incantation. He generally does it with good humour and grace, though in the lead up to his OWL exams, pure frustration on his face began to show. History:Ambrose was born to Francis and Claire Pepper, only at the time Ambrose arrived, they hadn't yet married. He was Claire's second child, having another boy, aged five already, from a previous relationship which had ended. Ambrose was the first of the two children Francis and Claire were to have, the second being Timothy, Ambrose's brother two school years below him. Life at home was happy. Ambrose attended local schools, the family content to fit into a Muggle life as far as possible. Claire, being Muggleborn was very adept at this, and neatly prepared explanations about boarding school for Ambrose, and how not to speak about magic before his friends. Occasionally he'd slip up, but his teachers put it down to an overactive imagination, and if they ever met Francis (which was less often than they did Claire) they put it down to his genes. Ambrose adores both his parents, and considers his father to be a genius. Francis Pepper creates time turners, a family business that has been passed down through generations from father to son. It requires precision and patience, sadly only the second trait is achieved by Ambrose in any one day. The time turners are regulated and controlled by the Ministry, though Francis isn't considered a true unspeakable, despite working with the Department of Mysteries. Claire was until the summer of 2008 a scribe for the Wizengamot, sitting in on lengthy trials. While Ambrose and Tim were too young to attend Hogwarts, she worked as best she could, and occasionally made use of time turners Francis had not yet delivered to make it possible to collect her sons from school when they were very young. The Department turned a blind eye the first half dozen times, which was thankfully all that was needed. Ambrose was incredibly excited to go to Hogwarts. His older half brother was already attending, and he adored the fact he'd been sorted into Gryffindor. He wasn't one for winning them too many points, last in the class to master most of the basics, charring more feathers in charms class than the rest of his housemates put together. His parents kept encouraging him - sometimes it would just take longer, they told him, but he'd catch up in no time and be ahead of them if he tried really hard. Ambrose, believing every word, tried harder than ever, and his trips to the infirmary were as many as four times a week. He managed to pass his broom course with Hooch just - because it didn't involve speaking any spells. In second year, he decided to try out for Quidditch, and got knocked off his broom by a bludger and broke his leg. That got patched up soon enough, and he contented himself with cheering loudly at matches instead, though is a bit jealous of anyone his age who does play in the team. His most famous mishap other than that was when he singed off his eyebrows which refused to grow back for a week right before Valentines day which ruined any of his chances to flirt with the girls. At the very end of the year, his older half brother left Hogwarts right before the NEWT exams. Ambrose thought it was daft, but secretly was glad someone else was taking the attention away from his poor grades for the year. He was later informed his mother had been caught by a backfiring obliviate spell, and had lost her memory, taken into care by St Mungo's. Although it was not Claire who cast the spell, Ambrose is convinced it was, and therefore has a twisted sense of relief that his mother made mistakes too. From then, Claire stayed in St Mungo's for spell damage, trying to deal with her memory loss and damage which meant she didn't remember the family, and forgot from day to day after being told. Ambrose found it upsetting, and it made him all the more protective over the rest of his family. In the summer before third year, while shopping for school supplies with his father and his brother Tim, Ambrose decided to try and steal some self correcting ink from Flourish and Blotts. He was caught, and in the heat of the moment, Timothy admitted blame, claiming he'd planted the bottle in Ambrose's pocket to get him in trouble. Ambrose, gobsmacked at his younger brother covering for him, stuttered and later claimed he'd been winding Tim up, so that their father gave them equal punishment for the incident. In third year, Ambrose's inability to pronounce spells correctly has prevailed. It didn't helped that he trapped the tip of his wand in the door in November, which further intensified magical accident likelihood. After a strongly worded letter from several of his Professors arrived home at Christmas, Francis ensured the wand was replaced hurriedly. As things get more difficult, Ambrose found himself kept behind by exasperated Professors, and has begun to loathe Transfiguration and Charms which require a lot of memorisation and speaking spells. He is scared stiff of Professor Storm, who gave him an almost weekly detention to sit in his classroom reciting the same spell over and over without his wand, while he marks homework. The Professor claimed its more for the benefit of Ambrose's classmates who'd like to keep their limbs intact. He was asked not to attend duelling club a while... or is confined with the first years. One class he loved was Care of Magical Creatures, and he spent lingering time there with the different beasts. Its was class he doesn't have to use so much magic in, and the creatures did't recoil or run away from him when he raised his wand to try a spell. Well... not at first. In Ambrose's fourth year, he finally started to find his feet with girls and life. Most notably, because he began to grow up a bit! He ended up asked out by a string of girls in the following months. Back in third year Winifred Oliver had wanted to 'practise kissing'. With the Tetra-wizard tournament he found himself on a date with Durmstrang student Emilija Cihala at the Halloween party. By Christmas he was asked out by Cyhirae Trishna which turned into a relationship for the rest of the academic year. Meanwhile he'd struck up a friendship with older girl Moira McBoid over their mutual love of creatures. Ambrose helped out with the Hogwarts Howler, inspired by his older cousin Theta. He was nearly drowned by Professor Storm in the lake. In the summer he went on yet another of the school trips, this time to South East Asia. In his fifth year, he became much closer to Juni Zamperia. When she vanished as part of the Valentine's Day portkey kidnapping, he was distraught. and the two got together to the point where Ambrose gifted her an alpaca. He continued to help with the Hogwarts Howler, interviewing the striking charms Professor, Rick Donovan. Growing in confidence, and sure he did not want to study for his NEWTS, Ambrose applied to become an apprentice at the Ministry. After his exams, in summer 2011, Ambrose began working at the Ministry as a lowly apprentice. He proved loyal, studious, determined and willing to do anything. Although he occasionally fell out of his depth due to his age, he appreciated making some new, much older friends and alliances, such as discovering Balfour Spectres cats are Sphinxes, meeting a vampire, or two, learning to play pool with Auror Gamp, and helping catch a griffin on Level One with the Minister for Magic. (He's not cunning enough to be a Slytherin, nor sharp or witty to be a Ravenclaw, and he's far too gullible to be a Hufflepuff, right?)Sum up your character in one paragraph: Ambrose is a tongue-tied but well-meaning soul with a great love for magical creatures. His somewhat dangerous unreliability to perform magic as a student kept everyone on their toes, and him in the corner of their eye. No, really, honestly, I’m so accident prone each time I pick up my stupid wand, I am amazed that I haven’t blown my head off, or worse, done it to a classmate and been thrown in Azkaban for it. Somehow I’ve made it into the fourth year without completely failing a year and being sent back to study with the year below. I put that down to my friends though, without the likes of Winnie, Zeta, Cy, Moira, and my housemates being there to copy stuff - er - I mean, correct me and help me revise, I’d be long gone. Just surviving is enough for me, and passing is a nice present.2: What is your idea of perfect happiness?Everything to be back as it was, with Mum, Dad, Tim and Thomas. I miss having an older brother of sorts, I’m now the eldest effectively, and Tim doesn’t want my help. That summer I lost half my family it felt like, and they’re not coming back. Well, at least, Mum doesn’t seem to be. But, yeah, perfect happiness would be us all before it, but now I guess it is being surrounded with my friends and family. Like, a big family Christmas with all my cousins from the Peppers and the Hughes, and the Trishnas (only if Georgiana promises not to hex me), and Philo I guess who is like an honorary Pepper, and Chris, who is Theta’s boyfriend and another honorary Pepper… and I suppose, if it makes Dad happy and everyone doesn’t mind, to have Gabrielle come too. She’s always been like an honorary Pepper too I guess. More since they explained at Christmas.3: What is your current state of mind?Trying not to think too much about OWLs next year. The teachers are going on and on about them, and we’ve got like, a year and a half to go. I have enough problems finishing a homework without having to worry about exams!I’m pretty blissed out otherwise. It’s great to have a girlfriend, especially Cyhirae. She’s beautiful and so amazingly clever that I sometimes feel like a ne- nean- a neanderthal, er, a cave man, right? She doesn’t mean to make me feel that way, it’s just me. She’s actually pretty cool about stuff, and hey, not like she’s not been my classmate for three and a bit years before and hasn’t had to duck under her desk too.4: What is your favourite occupation?Spending time with magical creatures! I was so glad to take up that subject in third year, even if it was with Professor O’Morain who can be a bit strict. Professor Hagrid was cool too, and Professor Locksley is kind of similar, but less hairy, and all the girls seem to give him these dreamy looks. The poor guy at Valentines day, it was only second to Deus and his proposals to Professor Storm in the great hall (how is that guy still alive?!)I love studying animals. They don’t judge me on my magic, and I can often look after them without my wand. There’s something satisfying about doing things carefully by hand that I guess my Dad and my cousin Theta actually do share with me. They do it with timeturners, but I do it with grooming and feeding. An animal actually gives you a happy sound or whatever and is grateful to you for doing things, and they’re great companions.5: What is your most treasured possession?Family photographs of before the accident. Mum and Dad laughing and Christmas at Uncle Octavius and Aunt Catherine’s.6: What or who is the greatest love of your life?I’m still in my teenage years, but at the moment, Cyhirae, but I don’t know if we could call each other the greatest love of our lives, because I’ll probably do something stupid and annoy her.7: What is your favourite journey?Back home from school on the train. It’s still exciting, and it’s a long journey with all my friends, but it’s the excitement of summer holidays and a long rest, and going back to my own room and going places other than the castle. It’s the excitement of finding out what we’ll do next year, but it is a little sad that a year is over. The way I’m going, the one after my OWLs will be my last.8: What is your most marked characteristic?Better asking my friends. I’d hope it would be my loyalty to my friends, and not the fact I’m always getting stuff wrong.9: When and where were you the happiest?Very much as I mentioned before, family Christmases.10: What is it that you most dislike?Making a fool of myself in front of my classmates and being given detention. Or, my family being upset, like in the time where my Dad just couldn’t do much for us because he just wasn’t there.11: What is your greatest fear? That my magic will backfire and seriously injure someone I love very much. I guess that must have happened with Mum and Thomas.12: What is your greatest extravagance?Being unleashed into Honeydukes. If I was allowed to buy a pet it would be over that, but in the meantime, whatever I have to spare goes on that place. I will not rest until I have tried it all (well apart from blood pops perhaps)13: Which living person do you most despise?Casey O’Doherty. Does it need explaining?14: What is your greatest regret?Being angry at Dad when he really didn’t need it. We were all frustrated.15: Which talent would you most like to have?I’d really like to be able to juggle lots of balls, not with magic, but with actual skill like Muggles do. It’s really cool and people wouldn’t know I did it, but I think it would change people’s perception of me quite significantly if I could. I can juggle with two, and I’m learning three.16: Where would you like to live?Probably in Britain, but I won’t rule out if I work with animals it may take me elsewhere in the world. As long as I’m comfortable, and with people I like, or even better with someone I love and family, it will be a home. 17: What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?Being unable to get out of bed, and in the darkest of times, telling your own son that you wish you could have died instead of letting something else happen. Dark times, thank goodness we’re not there any more. Thank goodness for family. 18: What is the quality you most like in a man?Honesty and loyalty. I don’t like other guys who talk behind my back, and I really hate guys who are sexist. I know a lot of lovely, incredibly clever ladies, and they’re all awesome. They could probably have any wizard who spoke ill of them in a really painful leg log and cursed in a blink of an eye. I’d pay to watch too. 19: What is the quality you most like in a woman? That I most like, oh that’s a tough one. Probably honesty again, and if not that, tolerance, not because I want to push their patience, but because I know sometimes I won’t mean to. 20: What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? That I believe people too easily. I trust people and they let me down. That’s why I value honesty. I should be more careful. 21: What is the trait you most deplore in others?Prejudice - intolerance. See 18. 22: What do you most value in your friends? The fact that they are there through thick and thin. We have a laugh, we work together and we stick together. I would be nowhere without my friends, they and my family are my life. 23: Who is your favourite hero of fiction?I liked Batman, because he doesn’t have any special powers really, and is a Muggle who goes out and tries to get rid of bad people. He also had a very cool costume and gadgets that make up for the fact he doesn’t have magic. I like listening to the stories on the wireless about adventurers and such, but Muggles are really clever about getting round their lack of magic. 24: Who are your heroes in real life?My Hughes cousins, like Flynn and Bertie. They grew up and do important jobs, healing and being aurors, and now my transfiguration professor. They inspire me to keep going and do a job that helps other people as well as one that is fun for me. 25: Which living person do you most admire?Uncle Octavius. He does fancy magic and these paintings that people have to talk to, to educate before they pass away. He also makes amazing flying cars over in America and aged like 20 years before last Christmas, so he’s like two people in one. He’s had a really cool life, and if I can’t talk to Dad, I can talk to him. Though sometimes I talk to Flynn, but he gets more worried for me than Uncle Octavius, because he’s a healer, and he’s meant to. Uncle Octavius would probably tell me billywigs were so 1920s. Or… y’know, whenever he was at Hogwarts.26: What do you consider the most overrated virtue?Protecting others from things. If they’re a tiny child, yes, but adults and teenagers sometimes need to know the real facts to grow up and deal with something. Sometimes people try to protect others needlessly, because they think that that person can’t protect themselves. I guess they mean well but end up making things worse. 27: On what occasions do you lie?If the truth will get a friend in trouble, or to protect a surprise like a Christmas present. 28: Which words or phrases do you most overuse?Uhm, y’know. Kinda… any slang my Dad would tell me off for using when we have guests round.29: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?My inability to cast spells properly. 30: What are your favourite names? All the names in my family. We like to name people after each other!31: How would you like to die?I wouldn’t! I’d like to be old and happy and loved I guess. What a weird question. I’m not even 20 yet.32: If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?I’d like to be a dog I think. I could run for miles, go exploring, get fed nice dinners, have my coat groomed and curl up in front of a fire and be with a family. Without having to talk I could reassure anyone with just being with them, and I’d be useful too. 33: What is your motto? If at first you don’t succeed… try, try again. Skip to next post Re: Ambrose Pepper // Profile // Apprentice Beast Handler Reply #2 on August 18, 2014, 04:07:40 PM 7: Ambrose’s favourite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting timeAsked by KellyDaydreaming! Kicking a ball around the park pretending he’s just won the world cup. Or just fooling around with mates. Sometimes he tries to learn how to juggle - he’s been trying to get the hang of three balls nicely.24: Is there one subject of study that Ambrose excels at? Or does he even care about intellectual pursuits at all?Asked by KellyCare of Magical Creatures is the only subject that’s really caught his attention at Hogwarts. He’s not the brightest of sparks in general, and his problems with muddling up his words when he tries to cast verbally has really held him back. This has put him off academic study, even more because he’s a kinaesthetic learner. If he learned his lessons by doing things with his hands (not necessarily his wand) and listening and responding verbally before writing things down he’d do a lot better. Creatures is that sort of lesson, and he has a genuine interest and want to do well. Professor Donovan’s arrival has intensified this.30: Ambrose’s reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)Asked by KellyHe didn’t cope well with his mother’s accident, but he’s wiser for it. He takes charge of his younger brother, or did when his father wasn’t fully present in mind in shock. It also led to him uncharacteristically trying to steal from Flourish and Blotts. Thankfully things are a lot better now, and Ambrose is a bit more sure of himself in such situations. He’s grown up a lot in the past couple of years. As such, one might believe on paper that young Mr Pepper is destined for a life in Azkaban for mischief, whereas in reality, the vast majority of his detentions and tickings off have been related to his explosive and unpredictable magical results, rather than any bad intensions. Ambrose knows all too well how determined he has to be to get something right, and how frustration can get the better of one!Coming from a large family, Ambrose is well used to looking out for other peers and rolling with the consequences, and informing where necessary, to an adult. He has a good moral compass, even if he and a few classmates historically rub each other up the wrong way. What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? Courage. It will require Ambrose to be bold to stand up to his housemates of all years and uphold the rules, whatever his friendships and sympathies are. Although he would look forward to working on some extra duties with other older prefects, he would be a little nervous not to muck up. However, he'd be incredibly proud to be considered. Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle: "Y'alright?" Ambrose asked with a tilt of his head. "I don't mean this in a nasty way, but you don't look yourself." After swallowing to try and ease the ache in her throat she answered, "Not really." Speaking, unfortunately, caused yet another coughing fit to start up as she hadn't spoken yet that day to anyone, and even to her own ears she sounded terrible. Groaning she leaned back again and let her head rest on the cool exterior of the wall. Moira was burning hot and cold at the same time. Being sick was just the worst.Moira really wasn't well. When she spoke, Ambrose's eyebrows climbed upwards on his face. "I just thought you were tired or something, but you sound crook too." He astutely observed, stating the obvious. He tentatively stepped forward towards her, a frown on his face. One never quite knew if it was some lovely magical illness when at Hogwarts, or just a common cold or flu. "Can I get you anything?" He asked more softly as the distance between them decreased. He sank down beside her on the stone and adopted a thoughtful, yet caring expression that was reminiscent of his father when he or his brother were ill as children. "You warm enough-" Ambrose had tentatively reached out his hand, relaxed and fingers curled, to put the back of his knuckles against his classmate's cheek, but he didn't actually need to touch her to feel the heat. "Phew, d'ya think you've got the flu or something?"- Looking after Moira "You're good at history, right? You at least know first year stuff, right? Any chance you can help me not be horrible at it? I don't know if the teacher teaches remedial classes, but if my grades keep up like this he's gonna.""Jowd? He's pretty cool." Ambrose batted a hand, "Doesn't give half as many detentions as the other professors. As for being good at history, well, I manage to not get a troll for each piece of work, if that's what you're aiming for? It doesn't involve my wand, so I can't sabotage myself." His eyebrow quirked, not acquainted, "Why, do you hate the lessons, or just can't remember stuff? Ambrose Pepper by the way, I dunno your name?" "Oh, Lyman Steed." The young boy removed his face from his book and looked at the older boy again. "A little bit of both, actually. I like Professor Jowd, mind, but I can't really bring myself to... Y'know, care about history. I usually have more important things to do, like practice charms or read about potions or bang my head against a wall." He picked up his notebook and flicked through the many doodled-on pages. "I get D's on average in my assignments. I didn't care at first, but I sort of resolved to at least pass everything at the end of the year, so...""Trust me, banging your head against a wall hurts, and doesn't help." Ambrose assured Lyman with a deadpan expression of been there, done that... got the t-shirt."Yeah, practical stuff is kind of the most important, innit, but history gets more important, trust me. You have to write essays about how spells have been created and developed and historical impacts on their progress, or something like. I dunno, I ... it just comes up in other places." Ambrose waved a hand over his books. ..."You never know when history can save your arse, that's all." Ambrose shrugged. "But you've got time, can't be perfect at anything. I've come to accept that, it's just history is one subject I don't have to use my wand, so I've half a chance of getting a half-decent grade."- Ambrose encourages first year, Lyman Steed who is struggling with history"Would someone like to show us how it's done? You could sing, if you'd prefer." Everyone seemed to shuffle and look in different directions. Finding some confidence from down in his muddy boots, knowing it wouldn't require him to draw his wand, Ambrose began to sing a folk song from childhood about a horse - Widecombe Fair. He tried not to think about how everyone had turned round to stare at him, surprised he could sing in any capacity, considering he was so rubbish at pretty much everything else, and his voice trembled a little as he stepped forward towards the shore. …As the nixie looked at Ambrose, feelers patiently twitching, Shona folded her arms and bumped him gently. “Good job, Pepper,” she told him, surveying the nixie with a contented sigh. “Ten points for Gryffindor.”- Ambrose shows courage by singing alone in CoMC to draw out nixies. Skip to next post
Re: Ambrose Pepper // Profile // Apprentice Beast Handler Reply #1 on November 29, 2013, 06:48:03 PM 1: What do you consider your greatest achievement?Surviving up until now! Skip to next post
Re: Ambrose Pepper // Profile // Apprentice Beast Handler Reply #2 on August 18, 2014, 04:07:40 PM 7: Ambrose’s favourite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting timeAsked by KellyDaydreaming! Skip to next post
Re: Ambrose Pepper // Profile // Apprentice Beast Handler Reply #3 on December 24, 2014, 11:49:27 AM Special Title RequestCharacter Name: Ambrose PepperTitle Applying For: Gryffindor 5th Year PrefectCharacter Biography: BiographyWhat Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?: Ambrose has extensive experience of many types of rule breaking, accidental rule breaking and just being a Professor's least favourite student 'rule breaking' as cause for sitting all manner of detentions. It’s larger than a lot of classmates, which is to his advantage with length of essay! Skip to next post

He’s probably even said his dad would murder him. Actual murder, however, complete kettle of fish. Ambrose is too much of a wuss to ever consider it himself, and it would scare the crap out of him. He's developed a keen interest in Care of Magical Creatures and a strength in his time at Hogwarts. In February, Ambrose applied for an apprenticeship with the Beast Division. Elaborate on your expertise in this new field: A good OWL in Care of Magical Creatures, plenty of practical experience gained at school and through family friends. Outlined by Ambrose hereDescribe your new job and how you go about doing it: Ambrose will begin with a lot of learning. Rather than studying subject NEWTs, Ambrose will learn the ins and outs of his vocation by performing active duties. He will shadow more senior members of his Division and Department, and go to sessions the Ministry require for professional development. He will also dedicate time to study and research to deepen his knowledge, and apply it practically whenever appropriate. Skip to next post
