Kelvin winced and reached up to rub his head. He turned slightly to give Zeta side-eye. Not that any look was going to stop her. She wasn't paying attention any more and he should have ignored her from the start.  Too late now.  He really wasn't the best prefect. His friends kind of made that impossible. Then again so did Kari's presentation.  It was impossible to set a good example when she was giving a presentation.

"I know what you meant," Kelvin whispered back.  "But you know, class," he looked pointedly at the front of the room.

Zeta lifted her hands in surrender. On just appearances she was humoring Kelvin, but really she knew he was right. She should be paying attention in class and not (air quotes) distracting others. It was dull, but she'd suffer through it.

Twenty minutes later ...

"Hey, sorry," Zeta said as she caught up to Kelvin just outside the door. "I was near to perishing of boredom. Don't see the point of presentations, really."

Zeta appreciated Kelvin and his Kelvin-ness. She would freely admit that bugging him was half the fun, but she knew (and the color of her nail polish could support this) that she could be a bit much.

Kelvin was surprised that they had made it through the rest of the class without further distractions.  He made a point to not hurry off to the next class either.  He liked Zeta when she wasn't talking or passing notes during class.  Or dragging him to Merlin knew what.

"No problem.  We didn't get detention," Kelvin said as she caught up to him and apologized. "I hate the presentations to," he added, though he suspected his reasons were different from Zeta's. "You know technically I should be breaking up this party, right?"

Zeta spun around and gasped in exaggerated shock. She hugged her notebooks to her chest and shut her gaping mouth. Of course. Kelvin was a prefect, an agent of the administration, a paragon of order if the rule books were to be believed. But in practice it was never like that. Some prefects enjoyed abusing their power, others just liked the shiny badge, others just liked sucking up to professors. Of course there were good prefects, too, who were helpful and advocated for students to the professors.

"You wouldn't..." Of course he wouldn't. Would he? Of course not. She tilted her head, eyeing him with a little smile.

Kelvin looked thoughtful and didn't respond for a moment.  Would he?  If he had to or it got out of control maybe. He wasn't on patrol that night.  And it wasn't like anyone was actually doing a good job keeping it secret.

"Probably not," he said with a mischievous glint in his eye. "If there's any nude modeling, everyone gets detention."

Zeta resisted the urge to slug Kelvin in the shoulder for even joking about being a stick in the mud. Instead she shook her head and clicked her tongue.

"You've gone mad with power, Watkins. Who would have guessed you hated fun. Is that it, Kel? Do you hate fun? Did fun kill your dog or something?"

She began walking away backwards slowly in the general direction of their next class. Unless Osha planned to use her Veela glamour to arrange for an 'artful' nude, there'd be no grounds for Kelvin's threat. Plus, if he did snitch on the party it would be social suicide. Plus, he'd already said yes. Her incessant note-passing couldn't have been enough to turn him evil, right?

"Yes, fun killed my dog," Kelvin said with a laugh as he followed her down the hall. He was only a little insulted by the comment.  He didn't hate fun, he just took rules and class seriously. And so what if his idea of fun was a good book from the library.  Or an entertaining lecture.  He wasn't one to pick out going to a muggle theme park, or going to a painting class with a nude model, or planning an after-curfew party.

"I don't hate fun. I said I was going right?"  He walked around and past her, "I mean I have to be there to break it up."  His laugh echoed down the corridor.
