Kelvin thankfully avoided the pale fate of his father, being fair with a bit of color that never seems to get darker despite the time he spends reading outside in the sun during the summer.  He has thick dark hair most of the time--when he isn't using charms to change his hair color-- and he rarely lets his hair get past his eyebrows before he chops it short.

He has a large, infectious smile and bright brown eyes.  Kelvin's nose is prominent but his father assures him he will grow into it.  His features are still in that transformative stage with the beginnings of the masculine features to come.  Kelvin is five foot eight inches.


Kelvin was a very active and easily excitable child, a bit of a shock for two calm intellectual parents whose first son had been an easygoing child.  As he got older, his parents were able to channel much of his energy into a passion for learning, though Kelvin has problems paying attention to things that he doesn’t find exciting, like potions and cooking, two things his mother was very good at.  He has a love for fiction, especially muggle fantasy stories involving magic.  And at times, gets caught up in what he refers to as adventures and his parents call trouble.

In school, he has excelled in Transfiguration, quickly becoming his favorite subject, he often attempts magic beyond his ability to sometimes amusing results.  He also enjoys Charms and Care of Magical Creatures, the latter surprising his parents who have no love of the outdoors.  Much to the displeasure of his mother, Kelvin rarely manages to do more than pass Potions, and no amount of bribing by his mother has been able to make him care enough to try any harder.  He understands the importance of school, but never passes up a bit of fun if he can help it, and is always up for joining someone on an 'adventure.'  He rarely takes charge in group situations, preferring to let someone else be the leader so that he can just enjoy the ride.


Born in Cambridge in 1995, Kelvin is the second child of Carl Watkins, a muggle, and his pureblood wife Miranda Bagnold.  Miranda was from the old pureblood family the Bagnold’s, granddaughter of the former Minister of Magic Millicent Bagnold.  Miranda caused quite a scandal, even in the anti-purist Bagnold family, when while unofficially studying ancient and medieval muggle history at Cambridge--ever the Ravenclaw in search of knowledge--fell in love and eventually married Carl Watkins, a muggle whose life work was the study of the belief in the supernatural during the middle ages.  She managed to keep the knowledge that she was a witch from her husband until her first son, Patrick got his acceptance letter to Hogwarts in 1996, a year after Kelvin was born.

Kelvin only knows of the fights between his parents during this time from the stories his older brother shared with him.  At the end of 1996, as conditions  in the the wizarding community in Britain deteriorated, Miranda sent her husband and youngest son to America, where Carl taught at Harvard until Miranda came and brought them back after end of the Second Wizarding War in 1998.

A vivacious child, Kelvin drove his scholarly parents crazy at times, though they quickly realized that their youngest son had a great interest in everything around him, and started his informal education at an early age.  They managed to channel much of his energy into learning, something his brother had only been tangentially interested in, and by the time he received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts, Kelvin would have said he could have taught his father’s undergraduate class at Cambridge and History of Magic at Hogwarts. 

His first three years at Hogwarts, Kelvin excelled in History of Magic, which made both his father and mother incredibly happy, and Transfiguration.  Doing well in all of his other subjects, except for Potions which, either due to lack of interest or lack of ability, he only barely managed to pass each year.  Something his brother during his brief visits during the summer, never forgets to mention at least ten times during dinners.  Kelvin has a great relationship with his paternal grandparents, but hardly sees his family on his mother’s side, as Miranda still has not totally forgiven her family who had shunned her, despite their anti-purist views, until Patrick had been born and they all of a sudden wanted to be a part of their lives again.

After coming home from Hogwarts after his third year, Kelvin informed his parents that he liked boys not girls; a declaration that led to his father hugging him and accepting him immediately and caused awkward dinners where his mother did not speak to him for weeks.  He is hoping for a moment to tell his brother, who knows something is wrong by the chill at family dinners when he visits.

Keeping order and ensuring that the rules are followed.   Not just because they are rules, but because he understands that there is usually a good reason behind the rule, that the rules are there for the benefit of the students; they are not in place just to restrict the students.

He works hard and has been a prefect for 2 years.  And while he doesn't participate in many extracurriculars he doesn't hide out in the library or the Ravenclaw common room either and is an active presence in the castle.  He errs on the side of respect for authority but will stand up for what he feels is right even if it means standing up to a professor.

Why did your character change occupations and what qualifications do they have?: He graduated.  He is good with books and research.

Character History 2013 - 2017:
The year following graduation Kelvin took a gap year to figure out what was next.  He took some trips around the world with his brother.  He moved in with Ambrose, Roger, and Gabe despite his brother offering to let him actually move in with him.  While that had worked for Kelvin during the holidays after his estrangement from his mother, Kelvin wanted to not impose on his brother full time.

Still trying to figure things out after the year, Kelvin got a job in the Ministry library.  This allowed easy access to a library while getting paid. He spent his down time at work and at home researching and learning more about enchantments, a subject he’d always been interested in.  His gap year only made him more interested as he watched his brother work through curses and enchantments in his work for Gringotts.

He started at Knareswick in 2016 when the school brought on an enchantments Sorcerer, continuing on at the Ministry as a part time librarian.
