Patrick is a man that is extremely intelligent, yet still fairly humble in the grand scheme of things. He takes his job very seriously and is talented at what he does. He makes friends easily and is exceptionally loyal to those close to him, especially his brother Kelvin. While he craves order and is confident in most things, he's terribly shy around girls that he is drawn to and is clueless about how to act around them.

Physical Description

Patrick is fairly tall at 6'2" and is much fitter than he might first appear, his strength and well-toned form honed by the many adventures afforded him by his job. His dark brown hair is usually kept cropped short on the sides and back these days, although he does keep some length reminiscent of his younger years on top. While he often has a slight shadow, the would-be scruff is typically neatly trimmed when he's not clean-shaven. His eyes are a deep shade of green hazel and are a giveaway for both his keen intelligence and his inherent kindness. They hide very little about what he might be feeling and can range from intensely piercing to soft and puppy-like and anything in between, depending on the situation.

He tends to dress fairly neatly when at Gringotts, even if it is not always expected of him in his line of work. When he is out and about for his job he'll wear whatever is practical and needed to get the job done as safely and efficiently as possible, which includes any equipment that might be needed along the way beyond his wit and wand. When at home, he dresses more comfortably, although not in what most would consider lounge-around clothing. Jeans and a comfortable t-shirt are most common around the house, with a nicer shirt donned for trips into town. Sweats or shorts are only ever seen on the man when he is actively exercising.

Personality Description

Patrick is a very family oriented man, which makes the situation between his mother and his little brother quite hard on him... but he would never turn his back on Kelvin even if their mother seems to have done so with surprising finality. He's more than happy to be there for Kelvin and looks forward to his visits on school breaks when they can spend more time together and he strives to make up for the lack in his mother. He has very little patience for her or anyone else that reacts critically to his baby brother and despite being a non-violent man at heart, he'd defend Kelvin to his dying breath.

He is an intelligent man and while it is not something that he boasts about, it is something that he puts to good use in his job. It takes more than guts to get the job done, after all. Adaptability is key and that is something that he is usually very good at on the job... although not always so much in his personal life. There, he likes order and predictability. Boring perhaps, but it balances out the craziness that is often tossed into his life through work. He is a bit of a neat-nick and low-key health nut, albeit one with a weakness for sweets, especially cheesecake.

Getting along with others and making friends is not a difficult thing for him as he is a naturally friendly and accommodating man. When it comes to women, he's a bit on the clueless side... and also shier than anyone might realize when a woman catches is eye. Who would think such a thing of a man so confident in his work and day to day dealings? He's never been the one to lead the charge on adventure outside of work, but he's certainly not opposed to joining in and trying new things. Perhaps one of the reasons that he enjoys his Animagus form so much, even if it's more for himself outside of work, as it's not overly useful in a group setting. He's fond of playing the guitar and is a good singer, although he's never really sung in front of anyone outside of his family because it makes him self-conscious. He recently took in a stray dog that he named Demon after the lead dog in the movie Snow Dogs because he was a pint-sized version of him and he found that too amusing to pass up.

History

Patrick was firstborn to Carl Watkins and Miranda Bagnold, swelling their family in late winter of 1985 in Cambridge. Miranda was from the pure-blood wizarding family of Bagnolds and caused quite the stir when she fell in love with and married Carl, who was not only a muggle, but one who studied the belief in the supernatural during the middle ages. Despite the disapproval, the young family seemed happy... at least until a year after their second son, Kelvin, was born and Patrick turned eleven. It was then that he received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts and the truth that Miranda had kept from all of them came to light and created a rift in the seemingly happy little family.

Despite the thrill that eventually accompanied his anxiety about his entrance into Hogwarts and learning that he was no ordinary human, but a wizard, he found his mother's deception difficult to swallow and he grew somewhat distant from her. This led to him focusing more and more of his familial affection on the baby brother that would one day follow in his own footsteps whenever he came home for the holidays and through letters once Kelvin was old enough to read them.

The transition from what he thought himself to be, a 'muggle' in the wizarding world, to a boy capable of magic himself was quite a shift and he struggled in his first year, but soon his perseverance and the friendships that he formed brought him through it in the end and he eventually became a star pupil and a proud member of the house of Hufflepuff. He did his best to do Hufflepuff proud and earn points for the House, although he never stood out through activities such as playing Quidditch, much preferring to be behind the scenes in most cases. Certain subjects interested him more than others, often the more challenging ones. Transfiguration and potions were among his favorites by the time he reached his third year and he honed in a bit more on them, as well as Astronomy and Defense against the Dark Arts, which was perhaps his best subject for most of the duration of his time at Hogwarts. History of magic, ironically enough, was his least favorite subject and the one that he got his lowest marks in, perhaps because of his strained relationship with his mother... or he simply found it boring at the time.

At the end of 1996, as conditions in the the wizarding community in Britain deteriorated, his mother sent her husband and youngest son to America, where Carl taught at Harvard until Miranda came and brought them back after end of the Second Wizarding War in 1998. His father was worried about Patrick staying behind and attending Hogwarts during such a period of turmoil, but he took his lead from his wife and did his best to understand that it was necessary. Thankfully Patrick made it through the war shaken up, but unharmed and was glad when the family was finally reunited, more than pleased not to have an ocean between him and his brother.

He buckled down at the end of his forth year on all of his subjects, determined to do well for his O.W.L. exams and managed to get an Outstanding in Defense against the Dark Arts, Potions and Care of Magical Creatures and Exceeds Expectations in everything else, save History of Magic, which he received and Acceptable rating in. His professor gave him a recommendation to continue on in his study of the subject despite his average mark and he worked that much harder on it during his last years at Hogwarts as to show his appreciation. He went on to do well in his N.E.W.T.s examination in all areas. Several potential jobs were suggested for him, but only one truly caught his interest and he promptly applied to work at Gringotts and was taken on as a trainee.

His first year there as a trainee was challenging, but it afforded him the opportunity to hone in on what he really wanted to do and once his training period was over he became a Curse Breaker for the establishment. The job required intelligence and guts and a willingness to travel, which he didn't mind at all, unless it was a time when Kelvin was due to stay with him. Those were the only days that he ever requested off of work, at least so far as traveling was concerned, as he took his job quite seriously.

A few years in he'd had a few close calls and revisited something that he'd learned of in transfiguration class. At the time becoming an Animagus had seemed unnecessary and he'd had other things on his mind, but now he thought that it might just help him in his job. Not that he could predict what animal he might become, but there were quite a few that could be helpful and if he became one that was not... well, then he'd only lost time and effort in the attempt, right? It took him nearly a year and a half, but he eventually succeeded after several attempts (ironically mostly thwarted because of his job) and a frustratingly long period waiting for an electrical storm to complete the spell, but he eventually did succeed and registered himself as a Harris Hawk in the Animagus Registry. More than four years have passed now and his smaller more agile avian form has gotten him in and out of more than one scrape along the way.

Now he's well-respected as a Spell Breaker and enjoys his work greatly, although he occasionally wishes for a little less travel time these days. He's even more distant from his mother due to her inability to accept his younger brother's coming out. Partick cannot condone her behavior towards her own child and has become even closer to his brother, who comes to stay with him during school breaks, rather then go home to the silent disapproval of their mother. He is mostly content with his life, but is occasionally restless for more, although he cannot quite pin down what that more might be as of yet.

Patrick is quite proficient in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Transfiguration, and Charms and is able to adapt easily to situations that might change in the blink of an eye. He became a Harris Hawk Animagus at the age of twenty-two to aid him in his work endeavors.
