Beautiful, cold and dangerous are perhaps the three adjectives that best describe Amara’s behavior as a teenager of fourteen. She has no concept of human relationships, in terms of what they really are and how they work; she has no set purpose in life, apart from inheriting what is rightfully hers and reinstating the Báthory family to its former glory. But what she lacks as a human being, she makes up for as a witch: she is very smart and well-read and a very talented and powerful witch. She is of old, noble blood, both in the wizarding and muggle world, and was therefore taught to act the part of on, at all times -regarding whether in conflict or not- she will show only the most proper behavior befitting a young lady of her status. Following the untimely death of her younger sister, Amara's psychopathy has come into full bloom, her notions of morality and humanity disappeared completely. However, as a side-effect her emotional impairment and lack of understanding for societal norms seem to have completely gone... at least, in appearance.

History

As a child Amara was a lovely little thing: always smiling, full of life, playful, deeply attached to her parents, very smart, and curious about everything around her. With her father working days and nights, her love for her mother was growing stronger every day, they were inseparable. One day in January 1997, the Báthory family was blessed with another child, named Emilia Maria Báthory, after her mothers’ new found obsession with Shakespeare.

However, following her mother's death during the Second Wizarding War, the once joyous child, Amara was now, cold, fragile and almost as hollow as her father. She refused to speak a word for almost two years after her mother’s death, but followed her education training and chores perfectly with no resistance whatsoever. The relationship with her father was beyond strained, almost nonexistent, they lived in the same house, but never saw each other, unless some social visit to her father required it. As Amara’s seventh birthday came, she seemed to have gotten back into a normal rhythm; for all could see she was a proper, elegant, educated young lady, albeit very shy and silent, but at a closer look, there seemed something very wrong in her eyes. The only social interactions she used to have, had been with her sister, Emilia, whom she protected and instructed as an older sister would, but nonetheless, for a family member, her attitude was cold and distant, almost as a governess instructing her pupil. Her other companions were animals, she would spend hours in their presence, and seemed almost like a normal child in her interactions with them… but she never smiled, not truly.

At barely eight years old she started her training as the future heiress of the family. She was taught their history, their beliefs, their ancient ways; she finally began learning the basics of practical wandless magic, as well as magical theory. Amara diligently memorized it all. Her father began to take an interest in her education, not for her sake, but for the sake of keeping up the family standards. Watching those conversations seemed like watching a very well-acted play, both of them kept up pretenses of a normal father-daughter conversation, but in reality they were both deeply disturbed and uncomfortable having to do it. Her one year stay in her homeland, proved to be awakening to the silver haired girl. She connected instantly to the memories of her ancestors and especially to that of Elena Báthory returned as a ghost and, thankfully, in her right mind. She continued her instruction as future heiress under the tutelage of the family elders and began to slowly show signs that she’d be over her mothers’ demise. Approaching Amara’s eleventh birthday, it was time to verify “Rózsa’s” allegiance, the family wand. As expected, the moment the wand was in her hand, it immediately bonded with the girl, however it also woke up something in her, something only she realized, something that frightened her and so decided to conceal it.

On the night of March the 7th, on Amara’s eleventh birthday, at precisely 2:30 in the morning, two owls arrived at her window, one carrying a letter with the Hogwarts seal, the other from the Durmstrang Institute. Amara, wished to follow in Aunt Elena’s steps, and accept the letter from her family’s Alma Mater. For the first time in her life, she actually vociferated her request in front of her father, but she met a cold denial for an answer. Amara’s first year at Hogwarts was difficult. She kept to herself, never engaging in conversation unless the actual conversation had a point. The incessant tries at conversation, the dorm life, with its horrible violation of her privacy, the amount of people around her… they all nearly drove her off the edge. All this, on top of her constant battle with herself by trying to suppress those dark urges that kept coming and going since the moment she first held her wand. She eventually cracked. By the end of the first year Amara had developed a sort of split personality, her dark side, constantly trying to reach out for control and her normal, hollow self, battling the other.

When she returned home that year, she nearly scarred her sister for life, hexing her, over an association with a young muggle boy. She would have these moments of uncontrollable madness, pure evil, but expressed overly calm, coming out of nowhere, a blood thirst worthy of the most vicious criminals. Her father called them “the sociopathic tendencies of the damned women of this family”. After recognizing the “symptoms”, Victor decided to send his daughter to Romania for the summer. Under the close instruction of Elena, who had been through the exact same thing, but unfortunately, hadn’t been able to fight it, Amara learned how to control and redirect her “tendencies” towards her magical core, to eliminate them for her own safety or briefly use them to amplify her powers. However, Elena told her, that the moment she used her rage, her blood thirst, in her magic, with the purpose to harm, she’ll be lost forever, and tragedy will strike, as it had struck with herself centuries ago.

In the next years at Hogwarts, life had become routine, and she was now able to live a seemingly normal life. Her sociability was still almost non-existent, but she remarked herself as an almost perfect student. She was studying diligently, although she was completely indifferent to it, she neither liked it, nor disliked it, she just did it because it was expected. Even in class, she never talked if not asked, but when asked she always had an answer ready, a good one, and surprisingly not one memorized word-by-word from a book. In her second year, she considered getting poorer results because of the normal pleasantries that came with a good mark. But her family’s expectations had soon dissipated the thought. In her third year a small miracle happened, with the introduction of “Care of Magical Creatures" in her schedule. For the first time in ages, Amara showed curiosity, interest and even enthusiasm, but no smile, not just yet. She had always been fond of animals, to the point of hoarding them around the house, since nobody really cared, as long as they were not in the way and she did not bother anybody with their care.

Just as she was starting to open up during her fourth year at school, a tragedy changed Amara's future forever. She had finally started to regain a sense of normalcy—forming connections, finding one of her own, the half-veela Demitria Strelnikov, getting into an exciting mysterious group called Gwyllion Fae, running into her own demons on top of the Astronomy Tower, only to be found out by Professor Tapendra Trishna and even having her first crush, the Charms Professor, Nightingale Kesali.

But on the second day of Christmas, 2009, her younger sister, Emilia Báthory, meets with an unfortunate accident that ends her life too soon—and along with her death, went Amara's last connection to humanity, resulting in a severe psychotic breakdown. Since then, her family "curse" has completely taken hold of her; her notions of morality and humanity disappear completely. However, as a side-effect her emotional impairment and lack of understanding for societal norms seem to have completely gone... at least, in appearance.

Coming with her full bloom into psychopathy is her increased interest in the Dark Arts as well. Given that her "moral anchor" has gone - and the fact that she's also no longer compelled to respond to Victor's authority - Amara has decided to fully immerse herself in her family traditions—which include studying the Dark Arts.
