Covert Coven Get That Before It Gets You

The Gwyllion Fae (also shorted to the GFs) is a gathering of the most potentially powerful in the Fourth Year students. Admission was by invitation only and only three specific students were singled out. There is total secrecy even amongst the members, each clad in an animal mask and cloak.

What They Do

Each of the Gwyllion Fae are headstrong and fierce individuals when it comes to magical discipline or intellect. The intention of the group is to bring them together to better themselves when they otherwise wouldn't meet in the open or work as a team. Thus, in a supposed secret environment free of judgment or ego the group tackle advanced magic to the point of proficiency.

Mystery is the name of the game. Invitations to the group and suggestions for undertaking are sent as letters of reddish-brown parchment with no return address from a "Donn Domovoi" although it is still up to the group members themselves whether or not to engage in the dictated task.

The mask, beyond reflecting the alias of the wearer, also distorts the voice to aid in masking the identity of the wearer. The masks can also be stored in and retrieved from the accompanying cloak only by the owner's hand.

Etymology

In Welsh folklore, Gwyllion has a variety of meanings including ghosts, spirits, night-wanderers up to no good or outlaws of the wild. Also called Mountain Fae (variation of Fairy) these fae appear to be harsh, ugly women that prey on lost travelers. However, if invited home and treated well they will do no harm. Characteristics present in each of the members. In the magical UK, groups of hags have sometimes used the moniker of 'Gwyllion' as well.

Far from just being words that appear to rhyme with "Fae" each of the code names is a family of animals: Canidae, canines and dog-like creatures; Felinae felines and cat-like creatures; Avialae birds and feathered reptile predecessors.
