Lacerare scindere

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Spell Name: Shredding Curse

Incantation: Lacerare Scindere

Pronunciation: lah-che-RAH-reh SHIN-deh-reh

Spell Branch: Charms

Magical Discipline(s): Curses

Appearance: A jet of dark blue light, composed of countless smaller streaks of lighter blue magic, surges forward with the force of a battering ram. It emits a shrieking sound for the entire duration.

Description: A jet of dark blue light erupts from the wand and expands until it touches a surface. Smaller streaks of magic cut through surfaces repeatedly, creating a constant barrage of damage that builds up over time. Because of their speed, the streaks become hot and can cut through many kinds of surfaces. The longer the spell lasts, the deeper the cuts get. The concentration of streaks depends on the size of the area—larger areas spread them out, while smaller areas concentrate them.

Damage is based on duration of exposure:

10–15 seconds: Can cut through soft surfaces such as skin, flesh, vegetation, paper, and cloth. (Survivable depending on where you are hit)

15–30 seconds: Slices through flesh and bone, as well as materials like wood, soft metals and soft stone.

30–45 seconds: Capable of cutting through brick, metals and harder stone.

45+ seconds: Begins to break through magical shields, depending on their size, the strength of the spell, and the caster’s power.

Regulations: Illegal

Skill Level: Master

Etymology: From Latin, Lacerare 'to tear, to rip apart' and Scindere 'to split, to cleave'
