Appearance
Brandelis has an average build that is athletically toned, particularly in his calves and arms. He has a very handsome face (which he is very proud of): round, proportionate, a working nose, and entrancing brown eyes. His smile would give Gilderoy Lockhart's a run for his money, and he has dimples to boot. His brown hair is cropped around his neck and adds a certain flair to his image. He stands at a good 5'11", though not in the least bit intimidating--not even when he's cross.
On occasion, Brandelis likes to dress up, particularly if he's in a good mood. When he's in these moods, he'll actually wash his Auror uniform and shine his boots! Otherwise, he's quite lazy about his attire. However, Brandelis is by no means lazy when it comes to his hygiene and looks, no sir! He is a nut about his hair being clean and glossy and he must always smell nice! The young man showers twice a day (sometimes three, if he becomes extra muddy) and dabs on just enough of that good-smelling stuff to attract the ladies. Usually, the fragrance resembles leather or chocolate.
Personality
Witty, personable, devilishly arrogant handsome, he is a great, fun person to be around. Brandelis likes a challenge...sometimes. All right, so he likes the thrill and the attention that he gets from putting his life in danger. The perks are always the reason he does what he does which is usually whatever he feels like doing. Brandelis is a man of aesthetics. He seeks to impress, boldly daring to do the unthinkable just for the attention, and he somehow gets by! He is viciously ambitious...but only for the perks, not for the job itself. Will he flash his smile and charm his way right past the guy that works his butt off? He certainly will! Will he terrorize or bully his way into it? Of course not. That is far too much work.
Speaking of, Brandelis is quite lazy. Sure, he has talent, daring, ambition, intelligence, and magical brilliance, but beyond the Suave Debonaire of Magical Skills, he is severely lacking in character. The man is a sham. A shallow sham, one might say. He seeks to impress and do just enough to keep himself where he needs to be in order to get what he wants, but he is not half as dedicated as That-Hardworking-Man-They-Should-Have-Hired. He is lazy, irresponsible, not role model material, shallow, horribly arrogant, indifferent, boisterous, rash, cowardly, superficial, commitment-phobic, disruptive, flamboyant, and immature. In short, Brandelis is an entirely flawed character with whipped cream and a cherry on top to make him look flavorful.
And he doesn't mind. Nobody really cares anyway, do they? He doesn't let people close. One-night affairs are fine by him and his co-workers don't seem too interested in him as a person. His family, well... He fooled them once, why bother fooling them again? Brandelis has no real reason to work on his character because he's having a good time enjoying the benefits of being young and handsome--which is the key to getting what he wants. He goes about his duties as an Auror rather lazily. If he can avoid the dull paperwork and pass it on, he does. He is there for the thrill of the action and the perks of being an Auror. However, he does take a good, hard look at his case files before he takes the case and goes into the field.
He is much better on the field than he is in the office, especially with people. He is the kind of person that can get someone to answer questions and charm information out of them, using only his good looks and winsome personality. When under pressure, he does not let the pressure wind up his emotions; he remains calm and redirects that extra energy towards being more aware of his surroundings. Because he is relaxed and has a cool temper, even when being baited, Brendalis is capable of making good judgments in the heat of battle. Of course, to err is human and he is not without a record of being reprimanded by his bosses for making a slight error in judgment. This has only happened a handful of times.
History
Birth - 1999
Born to Primus and Arabella Nott, Brandelis was a single child with a lot to live up to. Primus was the brother to a Death Eater, one who was among the Dark Lord's inner circle. Unfortunately, Primus was the older of the two and did not share the same social network as his younger sibling--he and his family were not as closely tied with the Malfoy's. He was, however, rather close to the Dark's and Lestrange's. His best friend was, in fact, Rudolphus and the pair prided themselves on their lineage.
As a result of being within a family that was part of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, Brandelis grew up highly privileged among the wizarding world. By the age of five, he was aware of what his looks could get him rather than just his name. This view was further rationalized by a wizard named Gilderoy Lockhart. Not that Lockhart was his hero by any means, but the fact that the man got anywhere just by winning Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award and publishing a few books, really drilled the idea into Brandelis's head. He tested this theory quite often when he went out with his mother and father to socialize among the wizarding community. Smiling at older witches and being on his best behavior got him more rewards than throwing temper tantrums (which he occasionally did).
As the years rolled by, the Dark Lord regained his power, and his father was arrested for suspicion by the Ministry simply because of the people he affiliated himself with. Brandelis and his mother were kept under close scrutiny by the Ministry of Magic. His uncle had been arrested for being involved in the Battle at the Department of Mysteries. His own father, whom was released by the Ministry, gathered his family and they went into hiding. He made it perfectly clear with the Ministry of Magic that he was not involved in any of the Dark Lord's terrorist acts. In spite of being a proud pureblood, Primus was actually terrified of the Dark Lord. With the help of the Ministry, they went into hiding....until the Ministry fell to the Dark Lord.
Primus's younger brother came to visit them shortly after the Ministry had fallen and had his family threatened if he did not join. So, Brandelis reluctantly joined the Dark Lord and became a Death Eater. He survived the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998 and explained his involvement to the Ministry and that his family had been threatened. His family was kept under close scrutiny.
Hogwarts: 1999 - 2006
Brandelis finally got his Hogwarts Letter after that and started school in the fall of 1999. He was sorted into Slytherin house for having cunning and ambition, though neither of them showed. Brandelis worked hard to keep his grades up in his first and second years. He had a girlfriend by summer during his second year, what with his charming smile, though it only lasted a month or two before he called it off on the train ride home.
In his third year, Brandelis took almost every single elective course there was. However, Muggle Studies was a joke. While he was not a purist, he knew that he would not be associating with Muggles and walking among them so why bother studying them? He flunked the class and dropped out. By the end of the year, his ambitions to work hard at all of his classes steadily waned.
Throughout the rest of his school career, he did not take his education as seriously as he did in his first three years. He put in less effort and worried more about his social skills and girls than he did homework. His father was not at all impressed by this. He passed with average grades by pure talent and luck. His father, who had direct contact with some of his teachers, learned how his son was behaving. In a discussion with a close friend, the confident warned Primus that his son may become a free-loader and bring shame to his family name. This suggestion refused to leave his mind, however absurd it was, and he threatened to disinherit Brandelis if he did not obtain some sort of career. With this new burden on his back, the young man realized he would have to get some ambition. He actually hit the books since he knew he wouldn't be able to pass his OWLs without some sort of effort. Once he passed his OWLs, he did well in all his classes, keeping in mind his father's threat at all times. The Career Fair was full of bright opportunities, but none of them would impress his father as much as becoming an Auror. And that's exactly where he decided to go.
2006 - Present
His time spent at the Auror Academy on Level Two was tedious! The lessons, while interesting and gave him a good challenge, were what he had expected when he became a Trainee. The Auror Corps kept a good watch on him and quickly realized that while he had the talent and some of the ambition, he would only just manage to achieve passing marks. He was best at dueling and, of course, socializing, but he also had a judgment much unlike his colleagues: he was not the kind of wizard to "magic first and ask questions later". He took his time in assessing the situation, gather his facts, and made a good call 9/10 times. Even under the Stress Tolerance test, he held his cool and made practical decisions rather than choosing to act on emotional impulse. His worst subject, however, was the Concealment and Disguise since he had flunked out of Muggle Studies in his third year. Still, he managed to get through it by the thread of his robes, as they say.
In May of 2009, he passed all of his tests and became a full-fledged Auror. Brandelis has not in the least made a bad impression, work-wise...with the exception of narrowly escaping the dreaded paperwork on almost every case he's done. However, his winsome looks and superficial personality has created friction between him and his co-workers. Brandelis has gone through at least four different partners since becoming an Auror, all of them having put in requests to be reassigned. It's not his work method, for he does a very good job as an Auror, it's simply his character that they cannot stand. Brandelis, however, pretends to be oblivious towards his co-workers' dislike of him and carries on being himself.
Career
Brendalis not only has the skills and magical talents for being an Auror, he also has the personality (however false) and social skills for investigative work. He has excellent judgment even in intense situations and has so far managed to come out of his duels against dark wizards without a lot of damage. Aside from his lazy, underachieving side, he has managed to impress the Auror Corps with his work methods.
The only areas he really bungles is mixing in with Muggles and keeping a partner. Not many people in the Auror office can manage to stick around him for a long time because of how shallow and arrogant he is...and also because he somehow weasels his way out of post-case paperwork and they end up with it.
