Greer stared at the Headmaster, the pit of dread in  her stomach getting worse and worse. Why didn't he believe them? She and Lucinda had both seen the kid's smug face, and Professor Storm had dueled him, and maybe Feliks had gotten some powers from his dead mum's medallion, but it didn't excuse him from attacking them. It just made it worse.

"But-"

Desperation flickered over Greer's face. She glanced at the office door. Any moment now, the Healer would come out and the Headmaster would claim that Feliks was innocent, and no one would listen to her!

"Feliks took my wand, and I don't know where it is now. I don't have it," her voice rose a little higher and her hands balled into fists as she hugged her knees in.

Had she dropped it, or had Feliks found it again? She didn't know.

Knox stopped and turned. His thick dark eyebrows furrowed together and he looked every bit the perplexed Auror-investigator.

"He what?"

No, Knox had heard Greer correctly. How had he not noted it before, that Greer didn't have her wand? He looked at Lucinda.

"Miss Temple, yours as well?"

The girls had been horribly wronged, but there was something that shocked an old wizard to his core and that was to have learned of wand separate from wix. It was offensive. Greyfriar believed the perpetrator had not been Feliks himself, but it was useless to rehash this with the girls, but that just. meant the wand (or wands) were going to be as difficult to recover as it would be to find the culprit.

She had tried to continue hiding away and acting like she was asleep, however it appeared that he knew she was faking it ultimately and was directly addressing her now, even as she kept herself in bed and kept herself covered with the blankets, she would much prefer to sleep right now but it seemed she had no choice in the matter thanks to the Headmaster wanting answers.

Slowly she reached to her wand, Greer had handed it back to her earlier, she must of just assumed that Greer had retrieved her own wand also, it had made sense to do so but if it was stolen...

Lucinda raised her wand out above the covers to show that she still had hers to the Headmaster, not really wanting to say anything to him at the moment, what was there to say? Instead once she had displayed her wand she merely just shifted in the covers to roll over and view the two from a small peep hole at the side of the sheets where she lifted it gently, she wasn't going to take an eye off incase the headmaster attempted something right now.

She wanted to assist Greer, to help her more, but she wanted to protect her also, after they were alone so that she could talk with her about what next, especially with her now missing her wand...

"Hmm."

Knox let the 'sleeping' Lucinda lay once more, indeed, still feeling now was the time to leave the girls to their respite. To Greer he had some words of comfort - they were likely to be fruitless, but it would be a concrete action in her support.

"We'll look for it. In the meantime, we'll locate a substitute. Rest now."

It was then that the Headmaster left them and proceeded back to find the Healer.

"Healer Prince," he said just loud enough to announce himself to the door ahead that was slightly ajar. "How are they?"

Emma had become absorbed in writing notes in Greer and Lucinda's files and hadn't noticed the quiet voices right away. She was just setting down her quill and capping her inkwell to go investigate when a similarly quiet voice addressed her from the door.

Standing and turning to acknowledge Knox, the healer said, 'Headmaster, please come in and have a seat, if you have the time.' She indicated the chair across from her desk and resumed her own seat, steepling her hands.

'I'm not certain how to answer that. Physically, the girls will be fine. I want them to rest here for the rest of the night. I'll probably let them go down for breakfast if I don't have any further concerns.

'My real worry,' she went on, 'is their mental state. They are upset that the student? who apparently hurt them was unharmed. They are agitated, and...' Emma hesitated, then sighed and plunged on. 'They seem to think that you were involved somehow in the incident, or that you wouldn't investigate it properly.' She had just accused the headmaster of Hogwarts of conspiracy to harm students. This was a wonderful way to lose her post.

Knox made no objection to having a seat and made himself comfortable as he usually did: sitting low, crossing an ankle over a knee and resting his elbow on the arm.

"Hmm," is what he said when the healer brought to light a most uncomfortable supposition, that somehow someway he was a threat either explicitly or implicitly. Sadly, in the four years Knox had been a werewolf, he had contended with such suspicions before, that his curse made him dangerous and biased, but this was a new angle. And it was not a little heart-breaking to hear the girls didn't trust him to work in their best interests, but the only thing to do was to persevere regardless.

"I hope it isn't necessary to assure you of the contrary," he said then. Then he decided to share the details of the story as he perceived them. He described how the girls had been found by Professor Storm in the woods under attack by someone who looked exactly like young Feliks Spectre, a boy who was already mired in controversy, and how he'd been a formidable opponent. He shared with the healer the details of the coffin and the amulets, and Greer's missing wand.

"Ignan and I are sure in the belief that Feliks Spectre was not involved in the attack," he went on to say. "He is not capable of putting our Professor Storm on his heels and there are several witnesses that have him playing Quidditch at the time of the attack. No, we are quite sure that whoever harm the girls used something like Polyjuice Potion to take his shape to engender their trust, but also to do the boy himself more injury."

"The Ministry will shortly be involved. This has gone beyond Hogwarts' talents. It saddens me Miss Temple and Miss Grant no longer hold me in esteem. Perhaps they'll take to you better."

If they wouldn't trust a Greyfriar, perhaps they'd trust a Prince.

Greer felt a tiny flicker of validation as the Headmaster stared at her in consternation. His brow furrowed, but he didn't seem angry that she'd lost it. Not like she'd imagined Storm would be if she'd told him.

She'd had so many chances to tell either of them. Any minute now, he'd get upset with her for waiting, like her mum or dad would.

But he didn't. Lucinda had hers, and that was good. She glanced at the silent older girl. Greer remembered picking up both their wands, so what had happened? Why was it all such a muddled blur?

Someone would look for it.

She nodded, her own brow furrowing, not trusting herself to speak. Feliks must have it. If Greyfriar would search Feliks' belongings, he'd find it, and other creepy things the kid was hiding.

The Headmaster must think that all kids were good, no matter what. Her. Feliks. Everyone.

But he was wrong.

She turned away on the cot, laying down with her knees curled in.

The deep rumble of the Headmaster's voice and the hushed, higher voice of the Healer sounded muffled through the door. A world of adults, a story no one would tell her. Greer rested her arm over her ear and squeezed her eyes shut.

The headmaster had left with the healer, leaving into her little office area so they could speak in private, leaving the two girls alone again. If anything Lucinda saw this as a good chance to get away if the two wanted it, although she wouldn't go without the other Gryffindor, leaving her alone in this infirmary overnight, especially without her wand! She was completely defenseless for now.

She shifted under the covers and slowly peered out to ensure the two weren't just being quiet but had actually left the room, then slowly shifted out of the bed. She froze quickly as her feet touched the cold floor surface, she could put her shoes on but that would cause noise.

Swiftly she moved her way over to the other girl in her bed, she needed to do this quick or they might lose the chance, the healer was being nice and friendly still but she was a member of staff, of the faculty, she'd believe the headmaster over either of them and do as he asks.

"Do you want to get out of here? Back to the common room?" She whispered gently to Greer as she gently perched herself on the edge of her bed, concern on her face, she needed to look after the younger werewolf.

At the weight shifting on the bed, Greer sat up, hearing the concern in Lucinda's voice, which was much more welcome than Greyfriar's constant concern that didn't match up with his actions. Still, she only glanced at Lucinda's face, and was grateful for the dim light in the Infirmary. Greer let out a sniff and swiped at her eyes. Her knuckles came away damp.

Though Greer paused, eventually she shook her head.

"Those two will just get into a tizzy if we leave," she glanced at the office door where the professor and the Healer seemed to be holding their evening vigil for all the troubles in the world.

"I don't think it'll be much better in the common room, either. Our housemates will just ask a bunch of stupid questions, like where were you and did you ruin Hogsmeade."

Greer grumbled, her voice a little softer and raspier than usual.

Emma's cheeks puffed out as she released a long, slow breath upon hearing the headmaster's revelations. Well, feck. 'No, Headmaster,' she said quietly, staring down at hands that were now clenched in her lap. 'I'm not certain they'd trust second-hand accounts from me on what happened either. Perhaps once they've calmed down some and had time to think they will be more willing to listen to you.'

That didn't really help her figure out what to do with them in the meantime. Or if it was her place to do anything at all. The healer froze as she thought she heard something and stared intently out the door, which remained open. She didn't see any movement, though the girls' beds were blocked from her direct view by rolling curtains. An oversight, perhaps, given the circumstances.

She glanced back at Knox, though kept an eye on the door so she'd see if anyone entered or tried to exit.

'Should I tell them that the Ministry will be investigating? It might put their minds at ease for the moment.'

"You may tell them," Greyfriar said noncommittally. "It's the truth. However, I don't believe it likely they'll find much comfort in it. For the both of them, the Ministry of Magic has been the great invisible wand locking their doors and for Greer slicing up her family into discreet pieces. If there's anyone they trust less than me, right now, it will be the Ministry of Magic."

He pressed his hands to his knees and rose to standing again. "Of course, I could be wrong. I hope for that all to often," he said ruefully. "It's a curse."

Making sure his cap was straight on his head and his wand still in his pocket he made ready to go. "I'm going back now. You know how to find me."
