[March 6] From the ashes (OPEN)

on May 30, 2016, 09:40:51 PM

Wand held aloft, new Hogwarts Healer Tempest Sage surveyed her surroundings. The changes made to the infirmary had been tremendous.  Hiding the evidence left by fiendfyre had not been an easy task. After a little over a week, they were finally ready to move in. Levitating a couple feet in front of the witch was a large trunk, filled with potions and salves. Those were headed to Tempest's new office, but the crate being carried by a couple of students was not. "Oi!" the short woman called out, "that one goes over there," she said, pointing with her unoccupied hand.

"And please be careful with that, it's extremely valuable," she added as an afterthought. Lowering the trunk to the ground, Tempest breathed a sigh of relief, things were progressing nicely. Moving the hospital wing back to the castle proper had been a point of contention with the staff, some had been great help, others weren't so happy about all the extra work it would entail. She had finally won with the safety card. With students being abducted, transporting students to the grounds for treatment simply wasn't smart.

Tempest stood comfortably for a few seconds, then rolled the sleeves of her muggle blouse and walked toward a cabinet being filled by a random student. "Not too high, please," the diminutive witch smiled at her own little joke. "And thank you so much for taking time to come lend a hand, Hogwarts and I are extremely grateful," she finished, reaching into the box and passing a bottle to her new working companion. They would make this the best infirmary yet.

Lenora had opted to help the new healer get her office and the infirmary ready. She was really glad to have the infirmary back in the castle- it had never made much sense to Lenora to have it out on the grounds, but then again, she wasn't the one in charge either. She was currently stocking one of the cabinets- careful to alphabetize everything for easier location. When Miss Sage stopped and told her not to place them too high Nora let out a slight chuckle.

"No worries there. I'm not tall enough to reach to the very top." They were rather similar in height- Lenora only had one inch on the healer. "And I don't mind helping. Having the hospital wing back in order is a good thing for the school. It will make it easier to get people here when they need help instead of having to leave the building. I'm glad to see it back in use and all cleaned up."

She placed another jar on the shelf- Nora was only on the letter D at this point. It might take her a while to do it, but if the Ravenclaw was going to help, she was going to do it right. Lenora was thinking about how it would be neat to do a charcoal sketch of the new hospital wing. It would be relatively easy to do (for her, anyway) and maybe she could frame it and hang it in the hospital wing if Miss Sage would let her.

"I hope alphabetical order is okay," she said. "I guess I should have asked before I started but I figured that would make it easiest on you and anybody else who might be helping you around the infirmary. I know it's important to have things easy to find when it comes to healing people. Never know when there might be a super serious emergency."

While Lenora attended to the cabinet, Theo kept his eyes on the wall… and mouth tactfully shut. He had his own task to fulfill, putting up the posters and photographs the Healer had brought with her; whatever method Amherst chose to employ – or thought clever, as if it shouldn’t already be a given – she would be left to it in peace.

For now.

Instead, Theo eyed one such poster critically. A Pepper-Up Potion will do just fine, but reducing your stress makes you feel more alive! it said in bold cheerful text. There was a smiling sun in the top-right corner, and an equally simplistic rendering of what seemed to be a Pepper-Up potion; surrounding them was a cluster of photographs artfully arranged. But no matter how Theo spaced them out, they did not hide the faint remains of a rather large scorch mark.

The rest of the hospital wing was much in the same way. What could be replaced or covered up – curtains, bedframes, chairs and cabinets – was, but the walls were a different story; soot stains reached up to the ceiling in bursts, black and sharp, like stills from an old muggle film. One did not have to touch them to imagine those fearsome flames surging outwards, devouring everything in its path.

Theo stared at the poster a bit longer, until it peeled itself off the wall and settled exactly a third of an inch to the right. A smile unfurled, slight and satisfied, before smoothing itself out. “Is there anything else you would have us do?” he asked, turning to look at Tempest. Of his mother’s entire array of acquaintances, Tempest was one of the few he genuinely liked. To have her work at the castle as the new healer had been an unexpected surprise, but not an unpleasant one, and the Head Boy wanted her to stay.

Tempest smiled happily at the Ravenclaw as she went about her task. Tempest would eventually rearrange the shelves, surely – but for now, alphabetically would do just fine. After all, it simply wouldn’t do to have Aconite beside Asphodel – nor would you particularly want bruise balm and billiwig stings near the other. One hastily grabbed bottle and the entire situation could blow up in everyone’s faces. Rearrangement was for a different time, and the new Hogwarts Healer couldn’t be more proud of the children scurrying about the room. “That’s just lovely,” She said kindly, patting Lenora on the shoulder as she stood to her full height.

“If you need a break, there’s pumpkin juice and pastries from Puddifoot’s in the office,” She added before moving on. Lenora was certainly capable enough to handle the organization of the ingredients, Eagles were known for having nimble fingers from all the quill scratching they did (or was that just a stereotype?) “And if you have any questions, feel free to call out – I’m just going to check on progress,”

Scanning the room for the sound of the recent voice, Temp caught eyes on Theo and trotted over. Of all the students in the castle (other than her own), Theo Whitman was one of the few that Sage knew – and knew rather well. Tempest and Idara had known each other for quite some time and though they weren’t necessarily ‘best’ friends, they were still rather chummy with each other. Unlike with Lenora, Temp couldn’t easily reach the Slytherin’s shoulder, so she settled for an awkward, yet comforting, pat on the arm.

“That looks lovely, Mr. Whitman,” She said, admiring Theo’s eye for detail, “You’ve done a wonderful job here,” Her eyes narrowed slightly as she noticed the still present scars left from the flames, but perked again almost instantly. They would be hard-pressed to expect perfection, but progress was progress and she wouldn’t allow dark thoughts to mar her happiness. “Is there anything you would like to do?” She asked, not sure exactly where she wanted Theo next or where he would be happy to be.

Lenora turned when she heard Theo ask if there was anything else to do. Nora didn't know Theo Whitman very well, but the idea of him happily helping struck her as odd. She shrugged to herself a little and went back to working on organizing the potions.

She perked a little when Miss Sage said there were pastries from Puddifoot's and pumpkin juice. Lenora loved pastries- but she rarely got into Puddifoot's because she was perpetually single and the place was soppy. "Thank you, Miss Sage!" she said with a bright smile. Lenora was definitely planning to go grab some of those as soon as she was finished cataloguing the letter D of the potions she had sorted out.

Lenora wondered idly what it took to become a healer. She knew that being a famous artist was going to be hard. She had good grades and was taking a lot of NEWTs, maybe she could look into it? Of course, Lenora had a feeling she wouldn't be happy with a standard job.

Nora finished the shelf she was working on then dusted her hands off on her robes and moved over to her office to snag a couple of pastries and a glass of pumpkin juice. She found one full of berries- and berries were her absolute favorite thing in the world to have inside of a pastry. Well that and chocolate. So she snagged something chocolate as well.
