Wand
Poplar, Unicorn tail hair, 10 ¾ inches, supple with a smooth shaft

Physical Description
Standing at a mere five feet, four inches, Temp has never been the most imposing of figures. Indeed, her boisterous personality and the addition of tall heels has been the witch’s primary way of garnering attention. Due to her short stature, the healer tends to walk more speedily than those around her, if only to keep up with the differences in leg length. She has a narrow frame, though after having three children, her bust and hips show a bit more size.

Tempest’s hair is of medium-length, falling to just above her shoulders and is a warm, dark brunette. Her eyes match her hair, with deep depths of warm chocolate and an ever-present twinkle. She prefers tasteful, rather than garish make-up, though her complexion allows her to use brighter colors than some others. Her nose is slender; her lips thin, giving her almost pixie-like features. Her smile is wide and intoxicating, showing dazzling white teeth and a kindness that can be expressed through a single look.

She dresses comfortably and casually, though always seems to manage to look as if she’d spent hours on her appearance. She has been in the habit of buying slightly too-large robes for years to hide the fact that she enjoys her heels so very much. Tempest has a purposeful gait, even when not in a hurry to get anywhere – it tends to make people think she’s busier than she is, and deters others from stopping her. Her hands are long and slender, scarred from years of practicing the healing arts and tending her own personal gardens.

Temp has always held strong beliefs in healthy lifestyles, and it shows in her physique. Her posture is almost perfect, and it isn’t an uncommon occurrence to see the witch sprinting across the grounds or quietly doing yoga in her quarters. She does, however, have a single tattoo, upon the inner part of her left forearm of a feather. It isn’t a magical tattoo, it simply stays in place, but it serves as a reminder of what she has lost.

Personality Description
Upon looking at Tempest Sage, one may get the distinct impression that they are dealing with someone not to be crossed, and while that may be true, it certainly isn’t the full truth. Being a shorter woman, Tempest learned at a young age that to be taken seriously, one needs to pack a heavy punch. Her features are often stuck in an almost apathetic pose, deterring those with negative intentions from conversing with her. That doesn’t mean, however, that Temp isn’t one of the most kind and motherly people one could hope to meet.

She is a healer through and through, whether that means healing a broken arm, or helping mend a broken heart. She has a passion and love for every living creature and would put anyone’s life above her own. As a mother of three, Temp has learned that being kind doesn’t always work out – sometimes tough love is required more than a kind word. It has taken her a bit of time, but at this point in her life, she is just as happy to tell someone when they’re wrong as to when they’re right.

Tempest has had true love and believes strongly that there is nothing love can’t overcome. She is certainly a hopeless romantic, and though she doesn’t foresee any romance in her own future, she is more than happy to help others find that happiness and joy that she managed to capture for so many years. She believes in equality for all – including creatures and beasts that wizard-kind had been denying rights to for so many years.

She is quite the powerful witch, with quite a knack for wandwork, herbology, and potions. She has never seen the point of divination, and indeed the thought scares her a bit. She doesn’t enjoy looking for the future, preferring to believe that what will come, will come, regardless of prior knowledge so why stress needlessly about it? For those that get to know Tempest, they’ll find that she can be an open book if one only takes the time to look. She lies very infrequently – and even then it’s only when she is certain that lying is the better course of action.

Lying, however, is never the best course of action, and sometimes that comes back to bite her in the rear end. She has found that she has quite a temper and a mother bear complex, especially when those she cares about are threatened, which can be quite a hindrance when trying to think clearly and unbiased.

History
Tempest Early was born into a torn home, to say the least. Her father, a wealthy muggle, couldn’t come to grips with the fact that his wife and unborn child could wield unholy magic. Her mother had neglected to mention the fact until she was already with child, hoping a baby might convince her husband to stay. It did not. Peter Early was gone from his daughter’s life before she was even born.

Her early childhood suffered, with a single mother working tirelessly to keep food on the table and clothes on her daughter’s back. She entered primary school with second-hand books and clothing. Her mother - her rock - had managed to scrape up enough money for her to attend a private school in London, and young Tempest couldn’t have been more excited.

Until her first week.

Children were cruel: teasing Tempest’s odd name and poor looks. It didn’t help that she was shorter than the others and scrawny for her age. She begged and pleaded her mother to remove her, but to no avail. You see, unbeknownst to the young witch, things weren’t going well in the wizarding world, and Temp’s mother wanted nothing more than to keep her daughter far from the evils of the world she was destined to grow up in. Voldemort was gaining support, his followers acting more brazen, and there was no chance she’d be allowed back home.

In the end, Tempest was glad for her mother’s insistence. After the first few weeks, things settled for the young lady. She found she wasn’t a terrible student, quite the opposite actually, and while she still wasn’t making many friends, she found it didn’t bother her quite as much. As time progressed, she did finally manage to win over the hearts of a few and left her primary school days with quite a tight circle of friends – though she had a huge secret that she could never let anyone know, which eventually created a wedge between her and everyone else that she could never overcome.

Tempest was magical – and it was expressly against the rules to tell muggles about her extraordinary gifts. It made her extremely sad when she had to leave everything she knew behind to start a whole new course of training that didn’t involve mathematics and arithmetic. She would soon be leaving for Hogwarts, to learn of potions and spellweaving. Her letter arrived right on time, and as Tempest’s mother had been given a promotion at the Ministry of Magic after Voldemort’s first fall, she didn’t even have to arrive in second-hand clothing any longer!

Hogwarts was like nothing Tempest had ever imagined, with the moving staircases and magic bouncing through the very walls of the place. Sure, she had grown up with a witch for a mother, but she spent most of her years at a private school away from home and her mother was always cautious with magic. Living in muggle suburbia, excessive magic was quite simply stupid.

The sorting hat didn’t even hesitate before shoving her unceremoniously into Ravenclaw house. Though unbeknownst at the time, Tempest would forge friendships and bonds that would last much longer than her school days, and those friendships have shaped her life views. She found, early on, that she was quite the powerful witch. She excelled in most wandwork, though her most proficient subjects were herbology and potions.

It wasn’t until Temp’s fifth year that she finally understood what her life’s purpose might be: healing. For longer than the young witch could remember, she would help those around her – whether it was with helping someone with homework or nursing baby birds back to health, Tempest had always been for helping people. Her OWL scores only increased her passions, and the young witch threw her entire essence into making her dreams a reality.

Upon graduating from Hogwarts, with the prerequisite grades, Tempest entered into her first year of training to become a full-fledged healer within the magical community. After three years of hard work and an unforgiving attitude, and Healer Early was trained in full. She took a position within the Creature Injuries ward – her belief that all magical creatures were worth effort pushing her in that direction.

It was there, within the bowels of St. Mungo’s Hospital of Injuries and Maladies that Tempest Early came upon Alan Sage. He was a peddler of magical salves and potions. Tempest knew well that St. Mungo’s had their own suppliers, but she couldn’t help but lead the handsome gentleman on a wild goose chase, hoping beyond hope that he’d landed the largest sale in his company’s history. That was simply not meant to be, but three months later the two were engaged.

It was during this time that Voldemort returned, and with him brought forth excessive fears in Tempest’s mind. Her first child was already on the way – and while she was safe, as was her child, Alan was muggle-born. She pleaded for months on end to try and convince Alan to flee the country with her, somewhere far from Lord Voldemort’s reach. He refused to leave.

Their first child was born, more beautiful and healthy than Tempest could have ever hoped for. Six months later, Alan was torn from their family home, and she would never see him again. An overeager Greyback ended his life before he had even been taken to the Ministry for a trial. In fear of her family’s life, she fled the country with her young child.

She and her young son arrived in Canada unscathed, but Alan had left his own mark – Tempest was pregnant again… this time with twins.

Tempest Sage eventually found a job as a paediatric healer within the country. It gave her more flexible hours – taking house calls and making her own schedule. It gave her more time with her family, and though her children would never know their father, Tempest was determined to ensure her family didn’t fall apart – even with only one parent.

By the time Harry Potter had finally defeated He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Tempest’s heart had mended. Looking upon her children’s faces, she knew that Alan would never truly have left her. She moved her family back to London shortly afterward – with her previous job reinstated. It didn’t take her long to realize that she simply was no longer satisfied with her old position – she was too independent to work underneath such amateurs – at least that’s how she looked at it. Nothing else could compare to the youth and vitality she gained from treating adolescents.

Eventually she settled into a routine again, though it wasn’t until the twins were off to Hogwarts before she finally started accepting social invitations again. She had finally come to terms with her husband’s untimely death, but she wasn’t sure that she would ever be willing to love another. That didn’t stop her, however, from going out drinking with friends or engaging herself in new social engagements.

Tempest has continued working within her floor, turning down promotions in the process, ever since. She worked contentedly until the recent poisonings, at which point the witch finally decided it might be time for a career change. After all, if the Head Healer could be poisoned, something wasn’t right – and Temp was certainly not willing to leave her children orphans. She searched far and wide for a position suitable for her – something that would allow her to continue expanding her passion, as well as provide safety and security.

When the position of Healer at Hogwarts became available, Temp jumped at the opportunity. Her experience made her a perfect fit, and though Healer Sage might have some ideas on improvement, she was chosen for the post without much fuss. Upon leaving her seat as a current healer within the organization, Tempest was offered a position on the St. Mungo’s Board of Warlocks, which she happily accepted in addition to her new duties as Hogwarts’ Healer.

Job Description
It is the Healer of Hogwarts’ job to ensure that all her charges are healthy and happy. Sometimes a pepper-up potion can do the trick, other times a kind word of advice is all that’s warranted. She is in charge of healing all injuries, both for students and staff.

She is also in charge of collaborating with other members of the staff on ‘high risk’ lessons, to ensure she is prepared for inevitable casualties. She will work closely with the Herbology and Potions Professors to make sure her stores are stocked. At Tempest’s request, she will also be in charge of brewing most of her own potions, as well as collecting her own ingredients from the gardens – all while making sure her co-workers don’t feel as if they are being passed over.

In such trying times, it will also be Temp’s job to help in making sure the castle is safe. That could include patrolling the castle and grounds, chaperoning Hogsmeade weekends, and helping add protection to the castle’s boarders. She must act as a friend as well as a disciplinarian, dealing praise where deserved and punishment when needed.

As a member of the St. Mungo’s Board of Warlocks it is Tempest’s job to listen to the issues brought before her, and to ensure that her opinions on matters are unbiased and well thought out. She is partially in charge of making sure the hospital runs as well as it possibly can, and it is also her duty to discipline those that aren’t following proper standard and protocol – though only if the matter can not be handled by the current St. Mungo's Head Healer.

What expertise makes your character qualified for their position?
Tempest Sage has been a healer for almost twenty years. She started her training directly after graduating from Hogwarts. She has over fifteen years of experience in the UK, working at St. Mungo’s, as well as almost five years as a paediatric healer in the North American country of Canada. She is currently also a member of the St. Mungo’s Board of Warlocks, a high title that only manages to make Temp’s life harder.

Sum up your character in one paragraph
Tempest Sage is a kind and loving person, with a personality that might not always match. Sometimes she can be a bit abrasive, though in a loving way. She puts the wellbeing of her charges far above her own, though her own health is almost impeccable. She values her motherhood above most else and though she has finally moved on since her husband’s death, she isn’t sure she will ever be ready for love again. She is an amazing healer and a powerful witch, though that can also be one of her major weaknesses, as she expects just as much from those she treats – even when it isn’t plausible.

Character History 2013 - 2017:
In 2015 Pomona and Patrick, Tempest's twins, graduated from Hogwarts and moved out on their own, leaving Temp with an empty nest. She decided that the Sage family home was too big for her alone and purchased a small cottage in Hogsmeade for use during the holidays (she spends the school year in residence at Hogwarts).

Shortly after Tempest moved, she began to feel lonely. It was the first time since before she had met her husband that she'd been truly alone. After Alan's death, she had their kids and the rest of the family. Now, however, no one seemed to need her anymore and it made her ache with loneliness. Meeting Benjicot Brambleton helped to heal that ache.

Benjicot was a wandmaker, though he had no storefront and made no advertisements. He made a wand for someone when it felt right, and often used cores others deemed inferior, which made him a poor wandmaker in the eyes of his peers. Those people, however, didn't see his quiet intellect or his intense passion for his craft. His caring nature far outshone his apparent inability to run a successful business. Tempest found herself falling in love with him.

It came as a complete shock; this love out of the blue. Tempest had already had one great love in her life - it seemed greedy to ask for more. She wasn't some young, grieving widow any longer - Alan had been dead for almost two decades, after all. She'd moved on - she'd gone on dates; she'd had sex with other men. She hadn't, however, ever thought to find love again.

Benjicot moved into Sage Cottage in 2016, managing the affairs of the house while Temp was away at Hogwarts. She changed the route of her morning run so she could stop in for a cup of coffee and a spot of toast most days, when the hospital wing wasn't full to bursting at least. Tempest's three children were not very happy with her decision to bring a new man into her life, but it was her decision and they eventually grew to accept her choices.

Tempest and Benjicot were married over the spring holiday in 2017. It was a quiet, intimate ceremony with only their closest friends and family in attendance. Oleander, her eldest son, gave her away and Ryannon acted as her matron-of-honor. The couple honeymooned in the Swiss Alps and returned before Hogwarts resumed classes. She kept the Sage name, not wanting to feel distanced from her children, but she often hyphenates when putting her signature to personal correspondence.

Since then, the couple have settled into a comfortable rhythm. They sometimes go days or even weeks without seeing each other, with Tempest busy in the infirmary or off handling St. Mungo's Board business and Benji off searching the world for exotic cores and unique woods, but that worked for them. They still spent most mornings together and every holiday, but they didn't need to be together all the time for their love to remain strong. The times they did spend together were simply that much more precious.

Summary: Though Tempest's professional life remains unchanged, the same can't be said for her private life. After her children graduated from Hogwarts, Tempest moved to Hogsmeade Village where she met Benjicot Brambleton. The two fell in love, and in 2017 were married. Tempest still spends most of her time dealing with the hurts of the Hogwarts populace and serving as a member of the St. Mungo's Board of Warlocks.
