[Oct. 19] ... Water You Doing? [Kiba]

on May 25, 2012, 10:48:57 PM

Jazelle Hawke, with her Head Girl badge shining like a gem on her vest, prowled the castle as another night of patrolling graced her dull, dull life.  Though her life wasn't dull, of course, it was anything but.  Tonight was just another for dramatics in her mind; it was something to keep her from falling asleep on a night like this.  To keep her mind sharp, Jazz would produce an inner monologue of sorts to trivial and otherwise bleak situations.  Depending on the level of exhaustion she wouldn't even think it; she would express it as if she were on a stage.  Having being alone during patrols, she wasn't in danger of running into someone, so it was safe to go all out, if need be.  Jordyn was taking another route to cover more ground.

By now she had started half quoting Shakespeare and half impersonating a beloved video game character as she shuffled through the corridor of the Third Floor.  Of course, it wasn't legitimate Shakespeare; just random babbling in that context to make it sound smart.  Jazz oddly liked being alone in the dark, chilly castle well into the wee hours of the morning.  Despite the creepiness one would realize if they let themselves think about it, it was peaceful.  It was ample time to gain clarity, perspective, and just calm down; which, for her, was much needed.

Her thoughts drifted to the upcoming musical she was planning.  Nothing too stressful; just ideas on costuming and choreography and set design.  It wouldn't be for another month or so until the production, but it was still nice to go through every possible idea in case she missed something great.

Now it's time to check each room, she thought with a sigh, about to enter the Trophy Room.  Nothing in-- her thoughts were cut off by the unexpected presence of another in the place in question.  It wasn't Jordyn.  It wasn't a professor.  Oh God, she thought begrudgingly.  A straggler out of bed.  Ugh, I really hate dolling out discipline.

She cocked her head to the side in confusion.  "... What are you doing?" she asks softly, trying to figure it out.

Kiba tapped his wand on his cheek, thinking of what to do. After his latest failed attempt at studying, Kiba decided that his time would be better spent doing something productive and being out of bed past curfew was only part of the plan. An evil smile crept onto his face as he thought up his latest idea. Kiba pointed his wand in front of him and in a great flourish cast his spell.

“Aguamenti!”

Water trickled from his wand, slopping onto the ground and wetting his socks. Kiba scowled and stepped away from the water, shaking his wand roughly. “C’mon,” He grumbled, pointing his wand out again, “Aguamenti!”
Kiba growled in annoyance as the same this happened again, his socks now sopping wet. Deciding he needed a higher vantage point, Kiba looked around the room and spotted a rather tall trophy cabinet that would definitely keep his socks dry. With a smirk on his face, Kiba stepped onto a few smaller bits of furniture and hoisted himself up onto the cabinet.

“Excellent! Now, let’s try this again.” Kiba cast the spell again, a small jet of water spurting from his wand. Kiba sighed and directed the water to the floor. His great plan to flood the trophy room was going to take a bit longer than expected.

“... What are you doing?"

Kiba jumped and spun around to face the door, stupidly directing the water flow right into the new comer, soaking them from head to toe.

Jazz's mood deflated as the person in question revealed himself to be in her house.  She didn't have time to think in annoyance about him because she was then splashed with a large wave of water.  Some managed to force itself down her windpipe, causing her to cough violently as the rush of water knocked her off her feet and onto her back.

Gravity did its work from then on out: more water trickling down her throat and in her nostrils.  Now choking, vision blurred and sinuses burning, she quickly flipped onto her side, head facing down in attempt to stop the flow.   Lungs sporadically constricting from lack of oxygen, she began swallowing what she could in attempt to clear her airways.

Coughing now slowing to a stop, Jazz was finally able to inhale, and though it eased the pain of her lungs, her windpipe and sinuses were still stinging.  "Ah," she sighed shakily, managing to even her breathing and blink away the liquid from her eyes.  Whether it was the water or her own tears, she wasn't sure.

"Well, that was interesting," she said to herself, examining how soaked she was.  Ew, there is nothing worse than damp socks, she thought in disgust.  Then she remembered there was another in the room; the source of her choking fit.  Looking up at him, she tried placing his face.  He was a Gryffindor, that much she knew.  But other than that she didn't really know him.  Sure, she vaguely recognized him: he was in her House, after all, and by the looks of it he was the same age as her.

"I didn't expect an assassination of Head Girl this early in the year," she commented with a laugh.  "Whoever hired you is jumping the gun a bit, don't you think?  I don't think I've done that bad of a job yet."  Giving a crooked smile, she idly wondered how silly she looked at that moment.

Kiba stood on the cabinet, his eyes wide and mouth popped open. He watched as the girl coughed water from her lungs, chocking and spluttering on the floor. He dropped his wand, watching her silently as it clattered down to the floor below. The girl looked up at him and his face instantly reddened, heat pricking at his cheeks.

"I didn't expect an assassination of Head Girl this early in the year. Whoever hired you is jumping the gun a bit, don't you think?  I don't think I've done that bad of a job yet."

Kiba bit his lip as he realised he had nearly drowned the Head Girl.. What was her name? Jemma? Jess? Oh, it doesn't matter, I almost killed her! Noticing that was staring at her with a dumb-founded expression, Kiba jumped from the cabinet, his legs jarring awkwardly in the process. He winced as he jogged over to her, smiling half-heartedly.

"Uh, are you alright?" He asked nervously, shuffling his feet on the damp ground. Yep, I'm in for it. She looks so mad. Oh god, they're going to expell me. I can't believe I was so stupid! He panicked.

Noticing the horrified expression on this boys face, Jazz couldn't help but bite her lip in amusement.  Sure, she had almost drowned but she liked to look on the brighter side of things and see the humor in everything.  "Yeah, don't worry, I'm fine," she says, shaking her head lightly before realizing her slippers were four feet behind her.  How did that happen? she wondered, remembering all the times at home when she would drop something small and have it teleport into a different dimension never to be seen again (or in actuality, nowhere near where it was dropped).

Scrambling in her weighed-down form, she seized them and crinkled her nose at the feel.  If I were a muggle I'd have to come to terms with the fact that these are ruined.  Luckily, she thought, digging for her wand in the pocket of her vest, I was blessed with the ability to dry-clean anything at no cost.

"Exaresco," she muttered, guiding her vacuum-like wand all over herself, watching the water vibrate slightly and evaporate like it never existed.  Once back to normal, she got to her feet and scratched her head with the tip of her wand, looking around for anything unusual.  Other than the pools of water, nothing was out of the ordinary.  Well, besides the boy.

Taking a good look at him, she noted his eyes were that of a deep brown--something she always liked in guys.  His skin was fairly darkened, and his brown hair swept in front of his eyes.  At first he almost reminded her of that man in her vision.  "So, if you weren't trying to assassinate me, since that went so well, what were you trying to do?  I think the Trophies are clean enough, you know."

Kiba visibly relaxed as the girl stood and dried herself off, claiming she was fine. Oh good, she's not angry. Now to make my escape. He thought slyly. Kiba's hands drifted to the front of his hoody and zipped it up higher, hiding the gold and crimson shirt underneath. If, by chance, she didn't know what  house he was in, it would be easier to get away with it.

Kiba shifted expertly into 'charm mode', running a hand through his messy hair and giving a crooked smile.  He strode over towards the door, leaning his weight on the door frame.

"What was I doing?" Kiba repeated the girls question, feigning innocence, "Oh, you know, nothing much. Just hanging around in the Trophy room. But what I really want to know, is your name."

His grin widened at his great plan, girls love talking about themselves, it would certainly  distract her from dishing out any punishment.

Jazz watched silently as the Gryffindor relaxed considerably and moved toward the door.  I hope he doesn't think I'm letting him go, she thought with a groan.  Don't make this any more awkward than it needs to be.

"Jazelle Hawke.  Jazz, for short." she answered with a shrug, evaporating the rest of the water from the floor casually.  "Yes, hanging around the trophy room alone, creating monsoons in the middle of the night.  Happens all the time," she says lowly, watching him intently.  Sighing, she put her wand away and began searching her bag; which had remained secure over her shoulder, for detention slips.  "I'm sorry, but even Gryffindors know better than to be out of bed this late.  For whatever reason,"

She had dolled out discipline before, but was still feeling awkward filling out the piece of paper.  "I ned your name." Jazz raised an eyebrow and waited, eyes searching his features.  Something told her he was used to this sort of thing.  Maybe he broke the rules more often than not.  In that case, Jazz had better be careful in case he tried to get away with it.  She had encountered people like that before.

The smile vanished from Kiba's face instantly in realisation of his failed plan, getting away now would be tricky. Jazz was certainly not like other girls. Kiba's palms started to become clammy as the girl watched him like a hawk. He swore under his breath as he desperately tried to think up a way to avoid detention. As long as she didn't know his name, she couldn't write up a detention slip. Kiba hunched his shoulders and sighed heavily, strolling past Jazz to where he dropped his wand.

"Can't you give a troubled youth a chance?" He pouted, picking up his wand and twirling it in his fingers, "Creating monsoons is the only thing I'm good at, and you're going to deny me that pleasure?"

Sighing, since Jazz had a feeling it would come to this, she stepped closer to him and tapped her pen to the slip urgently.  "Hey, I love monsoons as much as the next witch.  Just don't do it past curfew." she explained lightly, eying him expectantly.  He doesn't want to budge.  That much was clear.

"Just make this easier on both of us and give me your name.  Detention's not that bad, really.  You could think up new ways to assassinate me, if you'd like." she added good-naturedly.  "Though, I don't recommend drowning or suffocating.  It takes too long and I could always pretend I'm dead and then sneak attack you."

(Sorry it's short!)

Kiba tried his hardest not to burst out laughing at himself. I'm such an idiot, He thought in disgust, What's wrong with me today? He was a great escape artist, he prided himself on that fact. But for some stupid reason, he couldn't come up with a good plan or excuse. Well, he was feeling a bit off today and he was awfully tired. Maybe that was the reason? Kiba shifted his wet feet uncomfortably, shaking the water from his shoes slightly. How did he not know a drying spell?

Kiba narrowed his eyes and scrunched up his nose in deep thought. He only made this ridiculous face when he was concentrating super hard. Tell Jazz his name and get detention, or avoid giving his name but risk a worse punishment. He could always deny he even had a name. Kiba was silent for a few minutes, weighing his options (even the last one) then let out a breath of air he didn't realise he was holding. "My name's Kiba Attwood," He grumbled, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms across his broad chest, "But, you should probably write Lakyn Attwood on that."

He could always sleep in detention.

"Lakyn?" she mused, the name Kiba Attwood ringing some bells.  "That's a nice name.  Why do you go by Kiba?  It's an equally great name, you know."  Writing his name down swiftly, she couldn't help feeling sorry for doing this.  One of the 'perks' of being Head Girl was knowing you'd probably make more enemies than friends.  She wasn't one for being popular, but up until now no one had personal beef with her.  It was a nice feeling to walk around knowing no one had it out for her.  Besides, it's not like Kiba was doing anything too outlandish...

No.  Stop being a pansy. she told herself, as she ripped the slip from the notepad, handing it to him.

"Here you go.  Look, if you need help with... spells or anything for a class, I could always help.  You don't have to work in secret," she offered in mild concern.  "Or I could find a tutor for you?"

"I don't like Lakyn, reminds me too much of how I used to be," He shrugged, taking the slip and stuffing it in his pocket, "Kiba is my middle name."

Kiba felt embarrassed. Horribly embarrassed. Not only did he fail at properly casting a simple spell, but now he had been caught and has to go to detention. He was tempted to slap some sense into himself. You're getting sloppy, Kiba. He told himself.

Kiba wanted to shrivel up and die when Jazz mentioned tutoring. It was bad enough that she already saw his weakness, he couldn't have others knowing how terrible at spells he was. "Uh, I don't know... I guess I could use some help." He mumbled, looking anywhere but at Jazz, "But don't tell anyone, okay?" He finished quickly, chewing the inside of his cheek nervously.

How he used to be?  Who was he before he changed his preferred first name?  Her interest was now piqued, but she didn't want to make the lad uncomfortable, so she shrugged it off for now.  But the embarrassment Kiba expressed about needing help made Jazz want to slap herself for being so crass.  She didn't realize he would be disinclined to asking for help, and she just practically shoved it in his face.  Way to go, Head Girl.

"No--of course I won't tell anyone," she reassured hastily, momentarily panicking.  Feeling bad for putting him on the spot, she thought up a way she could make it up to him, however lame it was.  "I'm sorry if this makes you uncomfortable.  I didn't mean to--" Jazz stopped talking, realizing she wasn't going to make things right the direction she was going.

"Look, I'm pretty good at Charms and stuff, so, if you want, I can, uh... give you some pointers?" she said as if it was a question.  Unsure if he would take her up on her offer, she put her things away and tightened the grip on her bag-strap.  In all honesty, she had never tutored anyone before, and was somewhat scared at the prospect.  What if she's a bad teacher?  What if she can't get the words right and he ends up doing worse than before?  How embarrassing that would be.

"We can meet up somewhere or something?  I'm Head Girl, so I know where the best places for secluded goat-sacrifices are held." she added, hoping her touch of humor would lighten the mood.

Was she really apologising? Why in the world would she be apologising to him. He should be apologising to her. He was the one who nearly killed her only minutes before. Kiba was intrigued by her antics, she was totally freaking out. He wanted to tell her to relax, to take a deep breath and stop apologising. He didn't even know why she was apologising so much. It wasn't like she offended him.

Pointers. Yeah, he liked that word. Not as embarrassing as tutoring and didn't put a big sign above his head flashing the word 'dumb'. Pointers is a good word. She seemed smart, well duh she is head girl. He could gain a lot of tips and help from her. If only she would stop apologising.

Kiba laughed at her attempt at a joke. It didn't even make sense. "You have the worst sense of humour," He said, wiping tears of mirth from his eye, "I'll make you a deal, you give me 'pointers' and I'll teach you how to tell real jokes." He held his hand out for her to shake, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Jazz grinned hopefully in relief that Kiba had not taken offense.  In fact, he seemed jovial at that moment.  Curious as to why that would be, she got her answer, and couldn't help but laugh along.  Yes, it was at her own expense, but she was bad at making jokes.  She wasn't ashamed of this.  In her perspective, as long as she made someone laugh, it was a good joke.  Even if it didn't make sense or wasn't inherently funny.

"I at least got you to laugh," she said mockingly, beaming with victory.

Holding out his hand for her to shake as a mark of a deal between them, Jazz hesitated before shakily raising her own to meet his.  She hated skin-to-skin contact.  Even more so, palm-to-palm.  The aversion turned into a phobia after many years of anxiety, and it took every ounce of willpower to shake his hand without cringing.

"Deal." she agreed, and thus began her interesting friendship with Kiba Attwood.
