Wand:

Blood Wood
Demiguise Hair & Erkling Darts
10 inches
Sturdy

Blood Wood creates strongest bonds with passionate and fiery people. In the eyes of some wand-makers, this is an automatic inclination to Gryffindor, although the wood will bond well with a user regardless of House. Does best with a disciplined witch or wizard: sometimes better as a replacement wand for the more experienced magic user. Often fueled by strong emotion, this wand-wood will cast the strongest spells when the user is either very happy, very angry, or spells fueled by love and strong bonds.  This exotic hardwood has the unique characteristic of working easily with all elemental spheres, esp. whichever is tied to your personal sun-sign. Blood wood helps to uncover long lost secrets.  A fierce companion for those of a passionate nature.  Draws off the element of fire.  Recommended for one with experience and discipline.  This is a wood of strength and energy.  Will produce potent magic out of love or anger.  Excellent for increasing magnetism in rituals.
Demiguise Hairs were long considered to not have enough oomph to make a proper wand, but with the advent of multiple cores they have gained favor for their strength in Transfiguration and the subtle arts. When combined with a stronger wand core they make potent wands, however, on their own they can be rather one-dimensional and difficult to use for anything but Transfiguration.
Erkling Darts are found in the wands of those who tend to command the limelight with a smile, and have the natural allure that allows them to convince others to do their bidding. Erkling Wands are often in the hands of actors, musicians, or other performing artists. The Darts increase prowess in Hexes and Charms, but detract from defensive magic.
–Unyielding/Supple (Good for protective and defensive magic. Kind and Protective.)
Sturdy–So somewhere in between those two characteristics
–Inflexible (Hexes and Curses. Willful disposition and doesn't back down.)

Physical Description:

Jazelle stands at a petite 5'4'', weighing at 130 lbs.  She has soft features and is top-heavy, giving her a curvacious figure.  She has long natural ash blonde hair, very fair skin, a few defined freckles on cheekbones and bridge of nose, light blue eyes with white specs in them (often described as steely).  She has an oval face-shape, a straight and defined nose with small but full and pouty lips.  When thinking, working or spacing out, her face tends to look murderous (default expression), but that's just how her features blend together.  When she smiles, creases form by her lips (like parenthesis) and her eyes squint, completely animating her face.

Wears jeans and t-shirts or flannel tops mostly.  Likes to wear boots and converse/vans-shoes.  Earth tones, reds, grays and blues are her favorite color schemes (she's all over the spectrum--though you will never see her in pink or polka dots).  Tends to be mismatched (not purposely) in colors and patterns.  Wears little eye makeup, but that’s it.  Wears some jewelry (rings, earrings and a necklace).  She has pierced ears: lobes and one cartilage (left).

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Personality Description:

Jazelle's Patronus: The Penguin

Jazz is the biggest sweetheart you will ever meet.  Always genuine and caring to all living things, she tends to see the best in everyone.  Her low temperament makes her an easy-going and fun-loving individual. She’s a natural artist and sketches or paints whenever the mood strikes her.  She loves music and prefers classical to alternative rock and the occasional pop group (such as the Backstreet Boys—she has no shame!).  She will often swoon and squeal at things she finds cute without a care for who is watching: such as animals.  She cares for animals of every kind and would rather place a spider outside than kill it.  She tends to jump in without much consideration or thought of the consequences—like in video games, she’d be the scrapper, running right into the fray.  She’s at her best when she has passion for what she’s doing; otherwise it’s difficult to get her motivated.

She loves being on stage and performing: her dream is to become an actor, whether it is on Broadway or the big screen.  Having been in numerous stage productions (advanced drama classes, musicals and plays alike) she has learned all there is to know about the arts (as well as off-stage work: directing, script-writing, set-building, etc.).  Jazz's creativity and passion for the arts drives her.

She has very few good friends since only a few wants to stick around once spending more than an hour with her.  Her quirkiness and random bouts of expression is something that usually puts people off.  She finds the humor in everything and is often the only one laughing at what she finds amusing.  She’s often in her own world, but if important to her, she focuses like a laser.  When daydreaming or hit with inspiration, the room could be on fire and she wouldn’t notice: this adds to her reputation of being spacey and quirky.  She’s a bit of a contradiction and emotionally complex: it takes a lot to get her to open up (unless portrayed by her character on stage), but if you ask her a direct question, she answers without hesitation.  She doesn't believe in BS-ing the truth or conveniently leaving out information.

She has no fear being in the center of chaos because just like on stage: she improvises well and gives an incredible performance.  You never really know what's boiling beneath the surface, because her years of acting have made her a good pretender.  She could be laughing her head off and be screaming underneath.  Though there have been times where her deep-seated depression gets the best of her and she becomes like an emotionless husk.  Jazz is definitely a woman of extremes.

When she’s angry or upset, she bottles it up and forces herself to take the high road, rather than explode or break down.  She’ll force a smile or a laugh to keep the peace, even if she despises the company she’s with.  She doesn’t hold grudges, but if someone’s loyalty is questionable, she keeps a wary eye on them, never fully trusting them.  She never gets in trouble or breaks the rules (unless it’s important) and does well in classes, so teachers naturally like her.  She however is indifferent about teachers and refuses to be a teacher’s pet.

She’s stubborn to do things her way even if she knows it’s the hard way.  This stems from her mother babying her when she was young, because it caused her to develop dependency issues and an anxiety she has to battle with everyday.  It’s as if she has something to prove to herself: that she can manage fine on her own.  This is also why she doesn’t have many close friends or has ever had a romantic relationship; she has an irrational fear of dependency.  Her aversion to touch stems from her fear of being taken advantage of and physical intimacy; and shaking hands with someone is painful to consider.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
History:

Jazelle was born into a muggle family: mother--Karen, father--Jack and two older brothers (Brian--5 years older, David--7 years older).  Her father is a mechanic and her mother works at a community action agency as an administrative manager.  Brian is in college while David dropped out to strike out on his own as a construction worker.

Being the youngest, she was always babied through her adolescence, which made her dependable.  Because of this, she developed separation anxiety (which manifested into Obsessive Compulsive Disorder[1]--a form of anxiety).  She would stay home at all costs and go wherever her mother went.  She had one friend, who lived across from her house, and did everything together.  Her dependency changed when she started doing plays at around twelve.  Slowly but surely, she broke free from her separation anxiety and gain a confidence she never knew existed.

Her parents divorced when she was fourteen and she chose to live with her mother.  Her father lives across town and has a girlfriend (who she despises—due to her drunken tendencies), but makes time to see Jazelle.  Her best friend since kindergarten is a muggle, and is unaware that Jazelle is a witch.  But they ‘mail’ each other all the time and see each other on breaks.

Attending Hogwarts has made her happier than she’s ever been.  Away from the restraints of her mother, Jazelle has managed to finally come into her own and figured out what she wants out of life.  She does well in Hogwarts: getting high marks and taking schoolwork seriously.

Out of her family, Jazelle is closest to her brother, Brian.  Despite their age difference, Brian and Jazelle have always gotten along well.  Brian and Jazz share a bond of video games, movies and some music.  Her close relationship to her brother is a major factor in her somewhat tomboy-ish tendencies.

Her relationship with her mother is still strained, but Jazelle is hoping that they will be able to get past their differences.  Her father is getting married to his girlfriend in the summer before Jazelle’s seventh year, which is making her stressed out.  Her brother David has a long-term girlfriend he plans on buying a house with not far from their hometown, and occasionally stops by for a visit.

Her heritage is German, Irish and English.  There’s some Swiss and a bunch of others in there, but it’s diluted.  Everyone in her family has a light Irish accent.

Friends/Other Relationships:

Jazelle's first best friend is a muggle by the name of Nichole.  They met during the last days of summer in 1997, where Nichole had just moved in the house in front of hers.  They instantly became inseparable.  In many ways they were different, and they ended up having a lot of fights (none of which lasted a day).  Still, they overcame their petty nature and became like sisters.  Even after countless moves from Nichole, they practically lived together.  Even though when the time came that Jazelle was to head off to Hogwarts, they wrote each other every week (usually consisting of several pages of inside jokes) and kept their friendship alive.

Jazelle's second best friend is Church Comer.  They met in elementary school on the playground at the age of 8.  They didn't start off as friends, since Jazz was very shy at that age and Church was... well, Church.  When the time came to go to Hogwarts, they were startled to see each other on the train, believing the other was a muggle.  From then on out they became friends, although in different houses.  Only knowing each other at the strange castle, this sparked into a good friendship.  Eventually they became best friends.  Like brother and sister.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
How Do You Fit Into Your House?:

Jazelle is not afraid to be herself.  She’s a bit reckless, very passionate and brave.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Sum up your character in one paragraph:

Jazelle is an aspiring actress with dependency issues.  She has the reputation of being quirky and someone to not take seriously, but that's just a result of her complexity.  She's fiercely passionate and has her head in the clouds.  She's never gone a day without laughing and is the sweetest person you will ever meet.
 1. Jazz would repeat certain actions until it is done 'right' (such as counting, touching, blinking, snapping, etc.) otherwise an overwhelming feeling of something terrible about to happen drives her to obsess over getting it right.  This has affected her everyday life: making it nearly impossible to relax and just let things fall where they may.  She knows what she's obsessing over is silly and doesn't make sense, but the anxiety becomes too much to ignore.  Her mother had the same issue when she was young, so she thought she would grow out of it.  But by her sixteenth year, it was getting out of hand, so she was diagnosed by a doctor who prescribed her anti-anxiety/depression medications.  It helps reign back a lot of the obsessions, but her disorder will never fully go away.  Some days are harder than others, but it's not as extreme since she started medication.

Jazz the Penguin

Reply #1 on October 04, 2011, 04:26:18 PM

Now you see it, now you don't. Aggressive yet gentle, outgoing but shy, stable yet flighty - everyone sees the penguin in a different way. It's that black and white thing: the penguin only reveals the side that it wants to you to see. So whether you like this darling-devil or not, you have to concede that it's a fascinating and enigmatic individual.

Penguins are birds condemned to live out their days on the ground. Unable to fly, their excess energy has no outlet save their creative talents and emotional outbursts. Penguins are poetic, artistic, and intellectually gifted, and as writers penguins have no equal.

But, if unable to channel their impulses in a positive way, the resulting turmoil proves damaging to their relationships and careers.

Penguins are deceptively intelligent and are particularly animated when intellectually challenged. They excel at word games and puzzles but are modest about their abilities and are generally underestimated by others.

With their misunderstood personality, penguins find writing an ideal tool for expressing their true feelings. They have a natural aptitude for languages and penguin personalities dominate the world of publishing as writers, editors, and journalists.

With a natural aptitude for languages, penguin personalities dominate the world of publishing as writers, editors and journalists. A strong sense of drama draws them to the theater and cinema, although unlike typical bird personalities they avoid the spotlight unless they're able to hide behind the characters they play. Once on stage however, they prove to be excellent performers with their multifaceted personalities conveying the full gamut of emotions.

However, a lack of confidence affects their work. Penguins tend to give up on tasks they were otherwise capable of and are often disappointed with their performance. Still, work never dominates their life and they always put their family first.

Jazz's Tropes

Reply #2 on October 12, 2011, 05:00:14 PM

Jazz's Tropes:

Afraid of Needles --Her worst fear is to fall in a pit of needles.

Annoying Laugh --Sometimes she bursts into a loud guffaw, a series of machine-gun chuckling, a devious snicker, an awkward chortle, mischievous cackling and a spontaneous "HAH!" that she can't help.

Apologizes a Lot --It's a habit.

Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny! --Not that she's always like this.  If she's in a new or pretty environment, she tends to find something interesting at random and drops everything else to investigate, unaware of whatever else is going on around her.

Beneath the Mask --She's an actress, both on and off the stage.

Fear of Thunder --Ever since she was a small child and thunder storms raged outside her bedroom window in the dead of night, the sound put her on edge to the point where she couldn't sleep that night.

Forgets to Eat --Sometimes she'll be so wrapped up in a project that the hours will go by and suddenly she misses breakfast and lunch.  (This actually happens a lot)

Friend to all Living Things --Jazz loves animals (more than humans).  She's a member/contributor in the ASPCA.  She wouldn't even kick away a rabid dog if it was gnawing her ankles.

Grew a Spine --Having been babied by her mother for so many years, she developed dependency issues.  However, having been inspired in the way of acting, she grew a confidence she never knew she had and stood up for herself for once.

Guilt Complex --She feels guilty when someone she knows and care about is upset (or just messed up), thinking she could've done something to prevent it from happening.

I Am What I Am --Once ashamed of her quirky nature, now embraces it and basically thinks "If you don't like it, you can suck it!".

Love Martyr --She will go above and beyond to help the one she loves: even when they take advantage of her, even when she knows they don't feel the same, even when it kills her to see him with someone else.

Nice to the Waiter --She's pretty much nice to everyone.  With waiters, she has a saying: "Don't look the gift horse in the mouth".

Oral Fixation Fixation --She constantly bites the insides of her cheeks, bites her straws, has an affinity for lollipops, is a slow ice-cream eater because she refuses to bite into it (she's a licker).

Paralyzing Fear Of Sexuality --She has a weird aversion to physical contact, and an irrational rational fear of being abused.

Squee --If she sees something cute, she's going to squee.  It doesn't matter where she is, who she's with, or what's going on around her.  She can't help it.

Super OCD --She was diagnosed with OCD a year ago (something she's been suffering with for as long as she can remember).

What Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?:

Jazz is a drama nut.  She has been in numerous stage productions throughout her life (advanced drama classes, musicals and plays alike) and plans on furthering her participation in the fine arts well into her adulthood.  She has a lot of experience doing off-stage work, such as directing, set-building and script-writing.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:?

Jazz believes in order to excel in the arts, one must learn to express themselves.  To completely let go of yourself without fear of being criticized or judged by others is crucial for this.  Therefore, Jazz would create an environment that nurtures and respects each individual regardless of background or other personal issues.  This will bring others out of their shell and improve their inner confidence to be the best they can be on and off the stage.  She also wants to show the importance of the arts in schools and its positive influence.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:

Jazz knows everything there is to know about the stage and is passionate to create a masterpiece.  She is dedicated to the arts and will encourage others along the way.  She will put her heart and soul into it.  She has volunteered her own time into preparing and perfecting productions, going above and beyond what is expected in a drama student.  Whether it be choreographing routines, coaching others in honing their skills (like singing or acting), donating props/costumes/set-pieces, spending time working well into the night (when everyone has gone home) and a bunch of other things.

Special Ability Request: Seer

Reply #4 on November 18, 2011, 12:13:20 AM

Special Ability: Seer
What level is this ability at?: Intermediate
At what age did your character gain this ability?: Early childhood//when showing signs of magic
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
How did they learn or hone this ability?:

She was 8 years old when she first started showing signs of magic.  Being raised in a muggle family who knew nothing of the Wizarding world, everyone was perplexed.  One day Jazz just started blowing things up without touching them.

Her coming into powers sparked her 'inner eye' to manifest itself into something more.  It was a gradual thing: not something that happened all at once.  Her special ability can be traced back into her early childhood.  Jazz always had vivid dreams that often held some foreshadowing to them, but she never thought much of it.  Jazz's wild imagination always set her as an outcast and kind of a weirdo to her peers (before Hogwarts), since she would talk about 'imaginary' things.

She would see images of her elementary school teacher with child and point it out to everyone in the class before the teacher was aware herself she was pregnant.  Further into the years (before going to Hogwarts) her intuition became crazy accurate (like knowing who was going to call before the phone rang--little things like that).  At first she thought nothing of it, as she had always been on the clairvoyant side, but after a while it started to become overwhelmingly accurate and a regular occurrence and she couldn't ignore it any longer.  So, once at Hogwarts, before she took Divination her third year, she started to read up about Seers in the library and found it a possibility she was one of them.

By her sixth year at Hogwarts, her random feelings of dread or unexplainable knowledge had become like second nature.  She has only experienced a few 'visions': regarding Johnny's inevitable absence, her father's engagement to his girlfriend and the curious loss of her wand.  She can't control these visions/feelings/predictions.  It's something that happens at the most random of times.

Her dreams have become increasingly vivid (and bizarre), the intentions of the symbols and characters are clearer since she started Divination, so she is able to interpret them.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?:

She can't control these visions/feelings/predictions.  It's something that happens at the most random of times.  It's not something she 'uses': rather, it just comes to her.  She usually ignores the possibility of doing anything about these predictions.  She believes it's pointless to try to change the future.

All in all, it's a pretty conflicted ability for her (at the moment), since she doesn't want to interfere with fate, but she does appreciate it at times when she has the chance to prepare herself for what's to come (or prevent something bad from happening to those she loves).  Her dreams often foretell things to happen, whether something insignificant or something important.  She is then able to look out for those things and react wisely.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability:

Jazz has dreams that foreshadow things to come, which results in her having a lot of restless nights, since they're usually very mentally and emotionally taxing.  Sometimes she dreads going to bed for fear of what she'll see when she closes her eyes.

There are random moments that have her frozen to the spot as a feeling of dread washes over her.  She then knows things, things that can't be explained.  Sometimes they're very vague feelings, leaving her running around like a chicken with her head cut off, wondering what it all means.  But sometimes it's as clear as day, as if images flash before her eyes and something speaks to her.

Character Name: Jazelle Hawke
Title Applying For: Head Girl
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
What Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?:

Well, Jazelle Hawke has taken up leadership positions for years, whether it be stage productions or group projects in school.  No stranger to responsibility, she's the Hogwarts Players President, a member/contributor to ASPCA and a grade E/O student.  She has exceptional skill in public speech, planning and organizing (with her active part in drama and ASPCA.)
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:?

Jazelle believes in setting a good example.  To do this, she will create a healthier environment for education among her peers.  Not being a power-hungry git and spewing Head Girl rights at her whim are important to achieve others respect and trust.

Jazz believes people respond better to understanding and positive motivation, whereas landing them in detention.  She wants to help others change their perspective to do their best while maintaining a balance of enjoying school and becoming an outstanding citizen.

A Head Girl should be a good role model.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:

Jazelle has always been a top student.  She has never received detention, any form of punishment, broken the rules or disrupted class.  In short, she's the perfect student.

Jazz is, for all intents and purposes: a goody-goody.  She's also very sweet and willing to help out those in need, whether it be over a complicated spell or helping with personal matters.

Peer pressure?  Not in the slightest.  She's not afraid to stand up for herself and doesn't fall under questionable influence.  (It also can't hurt to say she has never touched alcohol, tobacco or any form of drugs.)

With her experience as the Hogwarts Players President, she has learned to set a good example as a leader, helping out with people's difficulties and encouraging them to be the best they can be (while having a bit of fun along the way).

Ergo, Jazz is a good influence.
