[Dec. 21] Chasing The Guilty (Closed)

on January 14, 2013, 01:09:26 PM

The dark-haired Auror apparated into the front yard of the Windell's. An alert had notified them to the murder at hand. Being tasked as the lead, Vivian took point, wand outstretched as she entered the house. She heard the floorboards creak upstairs and started up the staircase slowly, her footsteps falling softly.

The bedroom door was thrown wide open. and Vivian saw a glimpse of someone inside. She looked behind her, throwing a glance at her partner. They had to be cautious; they didn't know the details of what had happened, other than they needed to investigate. Vivian took a step into the room and found herself looking down the barrel of a pistol. She lashed out, knocking the gun from the man's hands and bringing her knee up to bring him to the floor. He fell with a thud, Callen's knee pressing into his back.

Holding the unknown man down, Vivian called to her partner. "Check the body for me," she said, flipping the man over and casting a spell that bound his hands and ankles together.

"Name's McGee, I'm MI5." He said, "Woman is a Muggle, mother of John Windell. From what I know, John's father killed her. There was something about an unforgiveable curse," George stated, trying to get his point across quickly.

"McGee, you're a Muggle too?" Auror Callen asked, recieving a curt nod. "Alright," she said standing up and undoing the binding spell when he showed her the badge on his waist. "You got the evidence spell, or do you want me to do it?" She asked her partner.

Zora followed Vivian into the ordinary little house on Cambrian Crescent in a Muggle neighborhood.   She kept her wand drawn at her side.  They'd been given scant little information - there wasn't even time to muster her usual partner Ed Pratt. She and Vivian were there and so she and Vivian were sent.  Not that Zora minded - she was happy to have Viv's back any day of the week.

Upon entering a bedroom, Viv handily disarmed a muggle man pointing a gun at them - guns were something Zora rarely saw.  She stood guard at the door.

MI5? Muggle?  The man was a muggle himself, clearly.  The only wizard she knew who was daft enough to carry a gun had been Auror Adon Eleor who'd finally given it up.  Yes, this McGee person was a muggle but in on The Big Secret, clearly.  Muggles didn't know they were muggles, now did they?

Zora obeyed without a word, moving across the room to have a look at the body.  She as laid there with her eyes wide open.

"No blood, no injuries I can see.  Looks like The Killing Curse," Zora said grimly, glancing sideways at McGee.  She didn't quite trust him yet.  And why would she? There was a murderer on the loose.

"Check him for ID, Callen," Zora said.  Then she stepped towards the door and raised her wand back into the bedroom.

"Delcaro Incantatum," she said and blue light filled the room.  And right over the body of the victim shone a fluctuating dark green mist, and on the victim's chest itself, more of the same.  There were other traces of magic in the room, faint indicating only small magic that was nearly faded away.  Days old, likely.  But the sign of the Killing Curse was fresh.

"Killing Curse," she confirmed.  "And no sign of an Apparition here."

Vivian waited as Zora performed the spell, and wasn't too shocked to see the green haze float in the air, especially prominent in the center of the woman's chest. She swore under her breath, realizing too that there was no sign of apparation. Their suspect was on foot somewhere in the neighborhood.

Given the situation, it couldn't have been too long ago that the woman was killed. The suspect couldn't of gotten far, especially in the dark in a Muggle neighborhood. She hoped the wizard in question didn't have the guts to use spells in front of Muggle's, but again, his lack of judgement was severely apparent.

"I'll be right back," she said, muttering another binding spell for the Muggle agent. She knew Zora didn't feel comfortable with him, and to be honest, Vivian wasn't too ready to take any chances with her back turned.

Flashing an apologetic glance at George, she turned to Agent Roh. "I'm going to check down the hall for any other evidence, maybe the fight started somewhere else."

With that, she turned on her heel, wand at the ready as she walked across the hallway. It was dark, so she cast 'lumos' as she walked, stepping into the first room she saw. It was a bedroom, a child's by the look of it. A Hogwarts trunk on the floor made it obvious that the child was a student.

And by the look of the shattered window, a crafty student as well. There was a shred of fabric clinging to a shard of glass in the window, and a few spots of blood where the child must have scraped his or her knees while climbing out.

Vivian stuck her head out of the window, noticing footprints leading to a house a few doors down; two sets. A larger pair next to a smaller pair. Callen's gut twisted, and she got the feeling that their suspect was closer than they thought. She ran back into the bedroom, "I think I know where our murderer is. I've got a footprint trail leading from the house to a neighbor's house."[1]
 1. I know there's something else that Annette and Grubson need to accomplish in this thread. I'll let you know when the Aurors can bust in and start arresting people. ;)

"I can help," the Muggle said to Auror Roh after being bound up again.  Zora, not really comfortable talking to Muggles, didn't say a word.  (The Aurors' occasional briefings from the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes always advise to When In Doubt Shut Your Mouth.  The less they had to Obliviate, the better.)  Instead, she patted him down and pulled out a brown leather wallet.

There was nothing about being MI5 - but why would there be? They were spies, weren't they?  Zora looked at him and frowned.  Vivian had gone to clear the rest of the house. He rolled his eyes, easily picking up on her suspicion.

"My daughter goes to Hogwarts. I live a block away.  I know Grubson Windell.  He's a neighbor.  I can identify him.  I don't know how you lot handle things, but I can help."  There was a sadness in his eyes.  If they were neighbors, he probably knew this family.  Knew the victims.

She pursed her lips.  "Fine.  Finite Incantatum."  The muggle's magical bonds released.  "But no gun, got it?"

Just then Callen appeared again with a fresh trail.  Immediately Auror Roh's blood came up - if the trail was fresh they might be able to catch who ever did this.
