Cassius is a competent Auror with strong ambition and drive to achieve greater things in life. He comes from a background of relative wealth and dubious morals, though is beginning to question his loyalties and where they ought to truly lie; much of his recent work has shone a light on just how criminal his family is. He carries himself with confidence and is extremely social.
Appearance
Standing a touch under six foot, Cassius is 5’ 10’’ tall and carries himself with confidence in his appearance and mannerisms - extending to how he holds himself when dueling: his grip on his wand is firm and his spells are often particularly flamboyant as a result. Touting a defined and toned body through his training – and subsequent work – as an Auror, Cassius is fairly muscular, athletic, and sturdy. Though harbouring curls, his brown hair is most often kept short and facial hair, when he elects to have some, is often well-tended to and kept as a five o’clock shadow. For the most part however, he is clean shaven and there is a lot of pride taken in his appearance.
This pride extends to his fashion choices. When not donning Ministry-required Auror clothing (most often, standard-issue Ministry Red Robes), Cassius takes a leaf from his fathers’ book for the most part; modern, expensive wizards robes when tending to most business within the wizarding community (or visiting his family’s hotel) and flashy suit jackets for when he needs to interact with the muggle community. It is rare for him to be seen not in some sort of robe or suit, though he has bene known to flirt with onesies when he’s at his flat alone (a muggle invention he thinks rather fantastic).
Cassius’ accent is most recognisably Scottish though in recent years, having moved to London, his accent has become less pronounced and more muted. He often speaks in soft tones around most people though if one were to see him in the presence of his parents, one might notice a noticeable lilt of submission – with an overabundance of politeness.
Personality
Calm, Collected, and Confident are Cassius’ most prominent defining traits of his character. Ever a social butterfly growing up, Cassius is outwardly extremely friendly and has no issue in taking someone under his wing; helping out the little guy, so to speak. Though he grew up being involved in his family’s matters – of which he was exceptionally loyal to – Cassius often displays a fierce sense of justice toward those he see’s as being wronged – or doing wrong – and generally has no issues in making his thoughts known. In recent years, his worldview has shifted and his once-pure view of his family (is his father said it was okay, then it was okay) now has a dark cloud looming over it.
His history as a Wilde and current career has led to him feeling rather conflicted about his past and his family and this can be seen in visible nerve-driven behaviours when having to talk about specific topics (such as his past or his family); picking at his finger nails, idly fiddling with his wand, rapidly tapping his feet, etc.
Outside of his social aptitude and morality, Cassius was always a studious individual opting to spend a lot of his spare time studying than getting up to no good. It was this paired with his ambitious nature that allowed him to excel in his N.E.W.T.S and get accepted into the Department of Magical Law Enforcement as an Auror. He sees most things as conduits to furthering himself to betterment; seeing opportunity in even the most mundane seeming settings. Some may call him nosy though Cassius’ would refer to himself as inquisitive.
Beyond that, Cassius can be extremely calculating – something he’s learned from his siblings (and father). Where Augusta would rather stay in the corner and observe and where Blaine would walk around to survey, Cassius is the one to get into the thick of it and use his silver-tongue to find out the information he needs in order to achieve the goals he has set for himself (or pushed on to him by certain others). He deeply respects those who display wits and intelligence and values (ironically) loyalty above most else.
History
Cassius, named so after his father’s brother, is the youngest of the Wilde children. Born during the middle of May in 1992 to Romulus and Esme Wilde, Cassius spent most of his formative years wandering the halls of the Pendragon Hotel and following closely – where it was allowed of him – on his father’s heels. He quickly became enamoured with how his father operated and in the years leading up to being admitted into Hogwarts, Cassius had fallen into a sort of errand-boy role for his father (he did not mind: his father always knew best and had an air of authority about him that Cassius could not dismiss); odd jobs, strange as they were to a young child, and dubious antics to whatever end Romulus desired.
Alongside his role in helping his father, Cassius had come to grow close to his sister – Augusta – he admired the way she was around others and how cunning she could be. The two would often play competitive games growing up (though Gus always won). Blaine, however, was Blaine. Cassius had no issue with his older brother but he always felt more distant to Blaine than to Augusta.
The first indication that Cassius would grow up to feel conflicted about himself and his family should have been noticed by him during the Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony. From the moment the hat was placed on his head, there was difficulty in sorting him. Initially, the hat wanted to place him in Hufflepuff – like his brother Blaine – thought felt a strong leaning toward Slytherin – like his sister Augusta. Internally, Cassius wished to be placed into Slytherin fearing he would not do well in any other house; a wish that the hat soon fulfilled, commenting to Cassius that his ambition would see him through to do great things.
His years at Hogwarts went with relative ease (notwithstanding helping his sister with her little side business on occasion) and he found a rather unique pull toward the more ‘involved’ subjects: Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Transfiguration being particular favourites (he also became quite skilled at flying – though not on the level of those Quidditch players; they seemed more brutish than smart). This ultimately led to him having a proclivity toward duelling and he quickly became known as the go-to kid in his year if you wanted your duelling skills put to the test.
During his fifth year, whilst studying for his OWLs, Cassius learned of Aurors through a classmate. Dark Wizard Catchers, they’d been called, and he became infatuated taking to the library to learn all about how they worked. Learning of them, mixed with his own ambitions, cemented his goals for the future: he would become an auror.
He passed his OWLs with the notable point of achieving Outstanding during Defence Against the Dark Arts, a grade he was rather proud of. The rest of his classes were all passing grades (Charms and Transfiguration] had grades of Exceeds Expectation) with the exception of Arithmancy (he elected to take it given his sisters penchant for the subject, thinking he would find it easy too) – he achieved a Dreadful in that class.
After receiving his OWL results, Cassius approached his parents to tell them that he wished to pursue his goal of becoming an Auror. The expectation was that he would be welcomed and congratulated for having such grand aspirations. Something his father could be proud of him for. Unfortunately, the reality was much different, and it marked the first of many cracks that would soon appear when it came to Cassius’ image of his father. Romulus outright refused and told Cassius he would not become an Auror. Whilst not truly understanding why Romulus was so against it, Cassius had his suspicions but shrugged it off. If his father said no, then it was a no; Romulus’ mind was in stone once it was set and could not be changed. At least, that’s what Cassius thought so when Romulus approached him the following day and stated he could become an Auror – under specific conditions of making sure to report in to him should he actually be admitted and pass training – Cassius was on top of the world. He didn’t know for a few days what changed his fathers mind (it turned out to be the result of Esme, Cassius’ mother, convincing Romulus to let him try; making note of Cassius’ adeptness in duelling in particular) but he didn’t care; he could become an Auror. He spent the summer mostly studying and trying to get ahead of the curve.
His relationship with his father had changed greatly over the next few years and Cassius had started to become increasingly aware that Romulus didn’t look too fondly on one of his children becoming a law enforcement officer.
By the time Cassius graduated in 2010, he had left with an Apparition license, NEWTs for Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, Herbology, History of Magic and Care of Magical Creatures (achieving Exceeds Expectation in all but DADA, CoMC and HoM where he received Outstanding, Acceptable and Acceptable respectively).
Career
Finishing schooling, Cassius applied to join the Auror Recruitment Programme. He knew how hard it was to become an Auror so was fully expecting (and, he suspected, his father was hoping) to be refused though when the owl arrived with a letter telling him he had been accepted, Cassius promptly moved to London – renting a small flat so that he could be close to the Ministry of Magic – and began his training.
Initially, Cassius found the training extremely strenuous and difficult. It was far worse than NEWTs and he often felt as if he might end up failing completely however as the three years went by, he grew in confidence of his ability – finding exceptional skill and enjoyment in several of the courses.
At the end of the three years, Cassius formally became an Auror – which marked the second crack. Cassius, though was not outcast by his father, had quickly stopped being informed on most family matters – especially when it came to his siblings. It became very clear, very quickly that he was no longer trusted by his father and when 2015 rolled around, Cassius had begun to visit his family less and less (save for Augusta, whom he’d regularly meet up with) though a large contributing factor to this is by virtue of his job.
Cassius continues to work as an Auror and has a flat in London. His room at Pendragon is still, to Cassius surprise, held for him and on his rare visits to see his family, he makes a point to make sure everything remains as it was from any of his last visits.
Though Cassius is considered a rather junior Auror, his proficiency in duelling has afforded him the capacity to join more senior Aurors (on occasion) on the more dangerous jobs. Most of his duties, however, are investigative in nature.
Cassius has achieved excellent NEWTs in the following (grades are parenthesised) subjects: Defence Against the Dark Arts (O), Transfiguration (EE), Charms (EE), Potions (EE), Herbology (EE), History of Magic (EE), Care of Magical Creatures (A). He also took the Apparition elective class when given the opportunity and has attained an Apparition license. He has completed the required Auror Training and is considered a strong duellist.
