With the WBA's leader on the run and its powerbase suffering from Auror crackdowns - and a tolerant Minister candidate on the rise - one could safely hope that the criminal underworld has taken a nasty blow. But one man's loss is another's gain, or so it goes..

With this loss comes a void, an opening that someone with enough drive, power and ruthlessness could fill and expand. And the Hydra seeks to be that group. Founded by a Wizengamot elder but run entirely by criminals, the group seeks to aid and profit from the residents of Diagon and Knockturn. Join the group, embrace their protection, and in turn aid him - or find yourself jobless, homeless and wearing a barrel. Of course, you could also end up dead.

A corner of this take over is the new drug, Muse. The drug is gaining popularity - after all it's safe, fun, and gives you amazing visions...and in some cases, supposed visions of the future. It's starting to inspire artists and musicians - but of course, no one really knows how it's made. It's sold mostly in Knockturn, but those who know where to go can find it in Diagon, too, being brought to socialite parties, smoked behind bars and so on. There's a secret to Muse - one that leads to the drug's almost unknown side effect.

The Hydra is a budding criminal organisation, founded by Vedir Prideaux. Running as a gang, it has many separate leaders all with the same, unified goal - the takeover and extortion of the Diagon & Knockturn areas, sweeping in to strike at the vulnerable WBA.

They recruit everyone who wants a job, who wants to step up in life, and they crush those who try to stop them. With their expanding drug market, they seem to have ties to the upper class, but no one in particular stands out...

How to Get Involved

Who?

Anyone can get involved who wants to deal with the Underworld. With the Hydra's aggressive recruitment and policies, they're prone to deal, attack or threaten just about anyone... who isn't really on their side.

In particular:

  • Diagon and Knockturn Shopkeepers. These people are being targeted for protection money rackets and, at the same time, the Hydra have a vested interest in seeing these businesses flourish. They make good offers...and do not take refusal well.
  • Criminals. The Hydra need agents, both competent and incompetent. Their internal politics are a mess - perhaps on purpose, they have small group leaders who rise and fall, so that single arrests do not hurt the goal much. They often go for younger criminals, offering them a rise in the ranks.
  • Aurors. Arrests of Hydra members are common, but they are good at presenting credible evidence. They're also good at silencing loose ends. Nevertheless, they'd make an effort to recruit from the Aurors; after all, the best kind of Cop is the corrupt kind.
  • Ministry Members. As mentioned above, it never hurts to have men on the inside.
  • Whatever Else You Want! The Hydra are flexible and they can find something for quite a few people to do. If you have ideas or want in, simply ask!
