Maureen is Archie's ex-wife and mother of both Toby and Gwen. She was born on the outskirts of Dublin to a pair of farmers, Matthias and Abigail Dempsey. Her life was so dreadfully boring that she craved excitement and discovery. The day she learned she was a witch was the best day of her life, trumping her wedding and the birth of her two children. She attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Ravenclaw for her insatiable curiosity. Like Archie, she spent most of her time in school exploring and graduated with high grades. Immediately after graduating, she got a job at Gringotts so that she could travel the world. It was there that she met Archie. They were like two peas in a pod and it came as little surprise to anyone that they got married only 6 months into their relationship.
Their fun times were short lived because Toby came into the picture only a couple years later and Maureen felt forced to slow down and settle. Her feelings of unease and disappointment were intensified when Archie decided to move the family to America after his parents divorce, without consulting her. After the move, Maureen got pregnant again and gave birth to Gwen. She tried to hang on for Archie's sake but after a couple more years, she had had enough. This wasn't the life she wanted and she couldn't deal with it any longer. Her and Archie would get divorced in 2007, with her promising to care for the children alongside him. However, she got a chance to run a dig in Africa about a year later and decided that it was the best path for her to take. She promised to keep in contact with the kids but only occasionally sends letters as well as gifts on their birthdays and Christmas. This caused a rift between her and Archie, and pretty much obliterated any chance at them being friends again. Archie rarely speaks to her or about her, though he tries to be civil when discussing her around the children.
She has very recently moved back to England and is working at Gringotts again, and has yet to discuss visitation with Archie.
