Laine is a girl at a turning point. Her parent’s careful schooling has brought her only so far and now she has the opportunity to take her own path and to begin to question the dearly held truths of her young life. She is taciturn and careful with words and affections, smart and clever yet rather rigid in her thinking.

Physical Description

Laine is slim and tall for her age and will likely make at least 5'10 when she is fully grown. Her eyes are a light grey and her hair is pale, almost white blonde, and rebellious. Magical potions seem to have little effect and it is a constant battle to keep her wild curls under some semblance of control. She takes unusual pride in her appearance for a girl her age and takes good care of the expensive clothes her Mother buys her.

Personality Description

Laine is a still, quiet kind of person however she is not someone who is easily looked over. She has presence, communicated through her posture and her quick, intelligent gaze. Laine does not waste words, preferring to listen and learn than to fill silences with idle chatter. This can sometimes make others feel uncomfortable and this habit has made her seem aloof and a little unapproachable to other children. Her parents have never treated her as a child and their high expectations have shaped her personality accordingly. She likes clever people and recognises that being clever is more than simply getting good grades. There are people who are clever with words, with their instinctive understanding of others, with humour or music or art. These are the people she gravitates towards and who will see a softer more playful side of her. On the other hand she is, at the moment at least, quite disdainful of stupidity and unforgiving of other people’s mistakes. She is outspoken and entirely unafraid of voicing her opinion if she feels the situation warrants it, even when it might be more tactful to mind her own business. It will be interesting to see how this tendency develops during her time at the school away from her family’s influence.

History

Laine was born into a world that was in shock, in mourning yet holding a burgeoning hope, a sense that finally it was over, that a great darkness had been lifted from the world. Three days after the legendary battle of Hogwarts she came into the world and her parents felt overwhelmed with the sense that this new life heralded a new age in their intertwined worlds. Their little girl with her fine silvery hair was a precious, perfect being in the midst of the debris of the war that had raged all around them for so many years.

She grew up, sheltered, pampered, moulded to her parent’s designs. Her mother, wealthy and vain, was swept into the magical world when her dear brother was murdered senselessly in that still, relatively peaceful, period before Voldemort’s second rise to power. Her protector had been Alfred Pendergast, a Wizarding lawyer appointed to the case, his role to prosecute the attacker and then to wipe the incident from her memory entirely once justice had been done. Much to his family’s disquiet he had neglected to perform this final duty. Love had shattered the barriers between the two worlds and he instead made her his wife. Brie had been fearful at first and then delighted with the new society she had discovered then, her natural self assurance winning over her disquiet. She found that her talents as a designer of Muggle fashion were sought after in the Wizarding world with younger Magical folk being eager to explore the fashion as the Muggle world became ever more intertwined with their own.

Laine was therefore raised to care for her appearance and to exercise her mind. She admires both of her parents and at this young age has no reason to question their high expectations of her or the road upon which they have set her. Neither does she yet consider them anything less than perfect even though there are aspects of both of their lives that might be considered morally questionable. From her time at the school they expect high academic achievement, carefully chosen friendships and perhaps a match with a suitable boy. She is expected to stand as a good example to her younger sister Lucy who is not so accepting of her parent’s demands.
