Cured Runespoor Venom is highly reactive to any magic in the immediate vicinity. Any physical contact with the venom causes serious potion burns that are difficult to treat, even by magical means.

First Contact

Upon first contact with clothing, skin, word, or even stone, the venom begins to eat away whatever it touches, fizzling and bubbling. The orange liquid turns blue in the wounds and causes all the pain a hot poker might.

He bit off an expletive and gritted his teeth as a sudden burning pain seared into his shoulder. He put a hand to it, only to find the cured venom was eating through his jacket and into his arm. He knew what kind of damage this venom was going to cause if he didn't get fixed up quick. He had to get to a Healer asap or he'd lose his arm and his sanity in a matter of hours.

The very first stages of the burn on the skin are hot red welts, which, if untreated, will become open wounds.

A stinging sensation shot along her arms, like a hex would, but much, much more painful. Maggie shrugged off her jacket in a panic, dropping her wand and rolling up her sleeves to find red, angry welts forming on her skin.

Continued Exposure

As the burns grow deeper, they ooze blue pus. This indicates that the venom has penetrated the outer layers of the skin and is coming into contact with more blood and wizarding humors.

Maggie risked glancing at her arms and immediately regretted it. The burns had started to ooze blue puss…

That was Cured Runespoor Venom alright, all over him and still eating at his flesh as it tried to squirrel its way down into Nathan's veins.

Once the venom reaches the blood, the poisoning effects begin to damage the mind and heart. The body goes all hot, and the head all dreamy. [1].

Complications

Any exposure to cast magic, enchantments, charms, curses, hexes or jinxes will only exacerbate the effects of the venom, causing the burns to flare more quickly and more deeply. Apparition is a particularly bad idea. Even after treatment, any magic can cause additional complications and set back the healing process.

Treatment

All treatment must be potions-based because outright magic will only feed the venom. But not all potions are inert as far as a the venom goes so a skilled Healer or Potioneer's knowledge is essential.

Proper Healing

The burns are first done over with a "cold, clear potion" [2], a cleaning potion that leaves behind a light film meant to protect the wounds from dirt, debris or magic. This needs to be applied every four to six hours. It is cold to the touch and patients report that it's somewhat soothing.

Bandanges go over the top of all of it.

Dazmond's Method

Potioneer Dazmond Wiedman has a method of treating these burns that is less than humane, but it gets the job done. It is highly effective but extremely painful.

I'm guessing the Old Man's stash went up in a magical hellfire, yeah?" Daz said to distract as she splashed the contents of the bottle onto Nate's burns -- a process which instantly caused them to swell and sizzle violently. It sounded like snakes hissing angrily and it must have been awfully painful, but it would begin to break down the toxins and sterilize the sites. Much more barbaric medicine than what he'd get at Mungo's.

The sizzling of Dazmond's lollypop juice in his burns felt like his skin was boiling.

The result of the first application of her yellow potion causes the burns to swell up and emit hot, green fizzling pus. This can be sopped up and wiped away with a damp cloth. The wounds will smoke - but that's a good sign.

The acrimonious bright-yellow solution she had used was actually a poison in itself, which she had formulated some time ago for the purpose of attacking caustic venin. It worked by battling for control over the flesh wound, pulling up the offending toxic substance and preventing further damage. If both were swabbed off at the right juncture, it would leave the skin raw and puss-ridden, the person worse for wear, but the venom would be stopped in its tracks.

Next comes a philter meant for the patient to drink down - an anti-venom toxin-remover. This part helps alleviate any symptoms in the heart or head. It tastes and smells like death and rotting vegetables.

The next step is a dark purple potion, thick as paste, that need to be dabbed into the flushed wounds. One can expect the sizzling and bubbling of flesh and pus to continue during this process.

Completing her work with the violet wound-flushing concoction, Dazmond sprinkled him with a deflating draught, watching as the burns shrunk back to their original size. They were now raw pink and mostly dry, but shiny and exposed. She was opening a jar of bright orange burn-treating paste
