A character sheet I use, inspired and collected from many sources on AO. Copy the code below if you wish to use.

Tips:

• Use a search function (command + F or control + F) to find and replace "color=purple" with "color=favcolor" using any BBC color name you wish to use.
• Delete anything you don't need. If you delete a whole section, don't forget to remove it from the Table of Contents at the top.
• Creating a new character? This is also a useful prompt as you work out all those fickle details.

Clarifications:

Sociological Characteristics

Emotional Level - Typical mood/personality of the character.
Extra Information - Other important details that did not have a slot in Physical or Sociological Characteristics.

Family/Friends Information

Location - Where home is.
Marital Status - Are they interested in marriage? Close relationships?
Children - Do they want kids, to start a family? Biological or adoption?
Faction - Allegiances

Educational Characteristics

Most useful for student characters, where everyone can see how they approach school.

Learning Preference - How they learn best, what distracts them, what do they struggle with? Study skills of note.
Learned Skill/Select Expertise - What topic do they concentrate on in their subjects? Things they have learned and applied to their lives ((Note: "Special Talents is for skills learned outside of school. "Special Ability" is filed under Magical Characteristics)).

Magical Characteristics

Eriesd - The deepest heart's desire of the character (that may or may not be able to come true).
Amorentia - The most powerful love potion in the world. Each person smells the scents that please them the most.
Boggart - The physical manifestation of the character's fear.
Riddikulus - Just as important as fear is how they approach/overcome fear.
Special Ability - Legilimency, Occlumency, Animagus, etc.
Half Breed - Is the character partly human? What traits or abilities carry over from their mixed parentage? (part-Giant, part-Veela, part-Goblin, part-Merperson, etc.)
Creature - Is the character not a human? What are the notable traits or abilities of their species?

The Six Stats

These are stats common to RPG games that determine combat and feats and other things. If you know of them, you could use the real numerical values if you wanted, otherwise you would do best with a sequence like "Very Low, Low, Sub Average, Average, Above Average, High, Very High." Justification is useful here!

Strength - Physical strength (also magical might for our purposes), resilience, endurance
Dexterity - Speed, fitness, movement, reflexes, flexibility
Constitution - Resistance against sickness, poisons, damage, and other health or mood altering circumstances
Intelligence - Scholarly education, brain power, smartness, wits, analytical components
Wisdom - "Street Smarts", life experience, social norms and operations, instincts
Charisma - Social skills, persuasiveness, friendliness

Gear, Possessions, Familiars, Protectorates

Let's use big ol' Harry Potter himself as an example. Of his possessions, he has the standard school equipment like books and such. Unique to him are:

Invisibility Cloak, Marauder's Map, etc. - Gear/Possessions (by 'Gear' I suggest it has some function)
Hedwig - Familiar
Ron, Hermonie, Ginny - Protectorates (he protects them, they help him out)

In and Out of Character Info

You can place links to many things here, like information you wrote out of game that you still considered relevant; character journals, OOC Discussion or game entries, them songs and playlists, artwork, character tropes ((tvtropes)), character origins and anything else worth mentioning that you've posted elsewhere.

Limitations - Useful for secondary characters or anyone you want to stick to certain kind of plots, social strata, scenarios etc.
