As History ended Lux quickly and quietly packed his things, leaving the room the same way he had entered; fiddling with the golden locket. The hour had passed rather dully, conversation coming and going as it always had, but still, with all that time sitting and doing nothing but attempting to open it, the locket remained sealed. It was actually quite annoying, for now instead of watching his surroundings for any other object that could easily be lifted, Lux's eyes, and hands, were glued to this little piece of jewelry.

Annoyed at the stubbornness of the trinket, Lux stopped at the stairs pondering what to do next. After all, he was supposed to go to Ruins right now, but he wasn't really feeling it. The locket itself seemed more interesting than hearing Reid drone on about some such. Besides, if he didn't get it open before then he wouldn't hear much of the lecture anyways. Of course, he was supposed to look like he was doing well in school, Ministry keeping tabs on his family like they were. Probably wouldn't help to miss too many classes. But then what would he do with this thing?

"Oh fine," Lux muttered while pulling out his wand and turning to head up towards the second floor. "Alohomora," he whispered, wand pointing at the locket which was resting within the palm of his hand. Satisfied that that would do the job, Lux slipped his wand back into his pocket and once again attempted to pry open the little piece of gold.
Katy followed Lux out of the classroom and ghosted up behind him when he paused by the stairs.  Her heart fluttered in her chest as she plucked up the nerve to say something to the boy.  The anger that welled up in her when she thought he might have her locket was replaced with the worry that it might just be a gold locket and not hers at all.  They were horribly common things, after all, and she'd lost her own locket several days ago.  It seemed highly unlikely out here in the hall without her righteous indignation.

He muttered something and began to move up to the second floor.  She kept her distance but followed.  When he muttered the universal unlocking spell and hunched over the locket, trying to open it, Katy licked her lips.  He's having trouble opening it.  If it was hers, it would only open for her because she'd taken her locket Professor Sandusky at the beginning of her second year to have it spelled to open with a password.  Well, there was only one way to find out for sure.

With a glance to make sure there weren't any other students around, Katy took a deep breath and said, "That's won't work, you know."
Stupid piece of junk! How in the hell did you open this bloody locket? Well, aside from getting a saw and cutting the thing open. After all, if normal magic didn't work on it he was pretty much out of ideas. Unless they did some stupid charm password thing in which case he would never get this thing open. Well back to square one... Maybe if he-

"That won't work, you know."

Lux jumped and fell backwards, hands flinging the locket straight up into the air as he rolled down the few steps he had climbed. "OW!" Not even bothering to see where his loot had gone this time, Lux immediately did a damage check on his body. He had landed flat on his back, his head smacking the stone floor. "Who in the God damn, oh, Bevans! It's you!" The scary girl from the hopeless house. "How are you? What have you been doing with your hair, it looks so nice? Is it a new conditioner? Because you know I've been thinking of using some and seeing what it does. Course I don't think I really need to since I'm a boy and have short hair." Although it would b nice to have soft hair.

"Anyway, what was that about the thing earlier not working?"
Lux was so engrossed in what he was doing that when Katy spoke he completely overreacted and fell down the stairs.  Fool, Katy thought, staring down at him with narrowed eyes.  He was the kind of person who spoke a lot without ever saying anything.  She ignored his comments about her hair and her conditioner because it was all just smoke.

Instead she stepped around him and picked up her locket from the third step up, where it had landed when he fell.  One glance and she knew, for sure, that it was indeed her locket.  The design on the edges gave it away instantly along with the way it warmed to her touch.  She folded her hand over it and took a deep breath.  She was grateful beyond words to have it back in her possession.  She would never again take it off and already her mind was prioritizing the research of spells that would keep the gold from tarnishing further in the water of her showers.

"It's spelled to open to a password," she told Lux and then turned to glare at him.  She whispered the password into her hand and when the locket clicked she opened it and stared at the two pictures inside.  She pulled her wand, overcome with a cold anger, and held it at her side as she asked, "How did you come by this locket?  Did you take it from me, thief?"
"Password, eh? Clever." And good lord why hadn't he thought of that? Probably because it was so unusual to do something like that for a damned locket. Most people would just charm it locked normally and leave it at that. But a password... hmm. Maybe that explained why some other items he had refused to open. People probably figured how much... safer it was, to do it that way now.

And then things escalated rather quickly. Though she admittedly didn't look ready to hex him. "Whoa, hostilities!" Lux sat up and held out his hands. "Do you really think that I, little Lux of slithering Slytherin could possibly manage to swipe something off of you without you noticing? After all you must find it very-" Lux stopped and looked just past her head, seeing something glittering. "-important." Slowly he stood and took a few steps towards her, eyes still fixed on that spot. "Hey move would ya? I'm trying to... Oh! It's just a bit of foil, never mind."

Damn shame. He was hoping it was something more worthwhile. "Anyway, if you must know. I was just walking along, minding my business when flash! Bam! Alakazam!" Lux wiggled his fingers at her for emphasis. "I just so happened to find it on the floor." He shrugged slightly, hopping back down from the steps onto the main floor. "Had it for a bit now, if I recall correctly."

Katy wasn't one to hold someone's house against them.  She;s suffered through her own mantel of Hufflepuff too much to ever really want to do the same to others.  Generally people were likable or hateful enough on their own regardless of their house.  But Lux was as untrustworthy as his house would lead people to believe.  Slithering Slytherin, indeed.

When he approached he set Katy's hackles up, even though he was clearly looking beyond her.  At first her eyes widened with mild panic and surprise, but when it became clear that he investigating something else of potential value, they narrowed with disgust.  She took a fistful of the front of his robes with her left hand and hauled him close enough that their noses were only inches apart.  Her wand was clenched firmly in her right hand, ready to be used if necessary.

"Tell me exactly how you came by my locket, Lux.  Make it good."  She was in no mood to play.  The locket was warm in her hand.  She had it back now, but the fear, sorrow, and loss was still fresh in her mind.  Touching the locket was akin to attacking one of her family and she could not let it go so easily.
"Whoa," Lux muttered as she grabbed him. "Hostilities!" Seriously, she was such a vicious one. It's a wonder she was in Hopeless Hufflepuff and not Gryffindork. Or even Slytherin. Because, good lord, she was certainly a feisty one. She seemed about ready to hex him at this rate. Assuming she got it off before he cast his. He couldn't tell exactly where her wand was but since he wasn't getting poked in the stomach with it, his, which was aimed upwards between them, angled at about forty-five degrees towards her, would probably land first. Well this was escalating quickly.

But he had told her. "Like I said, scary girl, There was a flash, made me look to my side like so," Lux turned his head to the left slightly. "Then a bang, with a puff of smoke. There wasn't an alakazam though. I just added that for effect." Lux paused, turning his head back towards her. "Wait, what's that smell?" He sniffed slightly, leaning his head a little closer to hers. "Smells like..." sniff... "Vanilla? Nice." He wondered if that was her shampoo or if she used some sort of perfume.

"But yea, Flash, bang, locket on the ground." Lux gave a slight shrug. At least, he gave as good a shrug as physically possible in this position. "Dunno, girl, maybe someones prankin' ya?" It wouldn't surprise him in the very least. Though admittedly it probably didn't help anyone that he found the trinket, if that was the case. "What time is it? I'm late for Runes again ain't I?"
Katy jerked back slightly is surprise when he sniffed her.  She didn't even know what to think about it.  Should she be angry?  It was invasive enough for that.  It's not as though he'd ruffled her hair.  But it was personal enough that she felt she ought to be wary... or... something.  Her eyes narrowed in suspicion when it occured to her that might have been trying to distract her from her locket.

She shook him a bit by the robes in her hand, her expression making it clear she didn't appreciate games.  "I want to know when this was.  What day?  What time?  Where were you?"

She was on a quest now to figure out who had taken her locket and why they'd given it to Lux.  It could have been an accident, of course, but that was unlikely.  Also, she suspected that Lux was lying to her.  She couldn't be positive though so she would ask for details and see if he stumbled.  She wasn't a fan of trying to out-connive a Slytherin but she'd certainly give it her best shot.
Was she really shaking him? Really? "Oi, stop that," Lux said casually, head bobbing back and forth. Geez, she really was something different. Who'd a thunk a girl would get so messed up over a damn locket. "Thanks," he muttered when she finally stopped. With a small huff, he lifted his hands and pulled er hand off him. "Let me think..." Lux placed his hand, wand still in it, over his mouth, crossing his other arm around his chest before leaning back... until he fell backwards onto the floor behind him with a thud. "Okay, first off," Lux said calmly, lifting his hand away from his mouth. "Ow. Second, was probably... what day is it? Monday? So figure it was about three days ago." Or something, he didn't really remember at all. Too much stuff had happened since then.

"And I was in... the Great Hall?" No that wasn't right. "Or was it the Entrance Hall? I forget which. One of those two. At 7:21 at night." That much he did recall spotlessly. "I was doing something or other and glanced at my watch," Lux lifted his left writs from around his chest and waggled it in the air for a bit. "Then flash, bam, et cetera happened."

Lux shrugged slightly and placed his hands behind his head. "That's all I got scary girl." Not that it mattered 'cause she'd probably never believe him at all. "You got some sorta grudge or what? Someone out to get ya?" She was mean enough to have enemies so it wasn't such a stretch.
