To Fly In Clouds (Closed to Church Comer)

on February 10, 2012, 05:56:41 PM

Kirby strolled casually towards the stands on the quidditch pitch. She planned to get some much needed practice of flying in before the gryffindor team try outs. Yes she longed to be a professional seeker but everyone had to start somewhere didn't they? She tied up her long silky blonde hair into a messy bun and mounted her broom before gradually lifting away from the ground.

She raised higher answered the wind as she took off before she began to gently soar around the pitch lightly as she searched for anything that may distract her. She saw a lot of students waltzing around casually as she smiled. She then noticed a familiar face not sure if it was him. She decided to depends lower tko get a better look but didn't realise the tree ahead knocking herself off as she crashed down to the ground.

Today was a boring day for Church. And boring days wee bad because that meant he risked being asleep all day in Ravenclaw tower which would throw off his sleep schedule. Not that his sleep schedule would be anywhere near normal with the patrol schedule he had arranged. But he supposed that was the price he would have to pay now. Confound these ponies leading him to insomnia!

...Well, just one pony really. And he wasn't even a pony anymore which was just depressing. Regardless of how difficult it may have been for Professor Trishna to be a pony, Church wished he still was one just for the cuteness factor. But now that he was a human again it looked like things would go back to normal. At least, normal by Hogwarts standards. Which meant not normal at all, really.

Actually, considering the amount of foreigners hanging around Church had to admit that this year had started out pretty dull. Honestly, he had anticipated some school rivalry nonsense to have happened by now and was sort of let down that it hadn't. Guess the headmasters at the other schools had a pretty firm grip on their students. Firmer than Church had imagined. And as such, the boredom existed.

Not really sure of what else to do, as laying around in the common room was proving a poor idea, Church headed out onto the grounds. It seemed this was a popular choice as he passed by a bunch of other students on his trek to no where in particular. Idly he strolled by the Quidditch Pitch, lost in thought. It seemed someone was practicing but he couldn't tell who, and he paid them no mind as he walked.

At least not until they flew face first into a damn tree and fell to the ground. "Well, that's one way to land," Church muttered to himself as he walked over to the downed flier. "Should keep a better eye out," he said as he approached the girl. "I mean, I know trees are hard to see, what with all the branches and leaves and how they stick up a good fifty feet out of the ground, but attention to detail while flying is usually rule number one."

After her unexpected clumsy crash landing to the ground Kirby scowled at herself severely annoyed. The team try outs were days away and no way was she getting onto the team flying like this. That was one life long ambition she should just give up on then and there but she was certainly no quitter.

She sat up quickly and began to brush the dirt that had stuck to her uniform off quickly making herself look at least a little presentable even though her hair now would need to be washed again. Great one! She thought to herself as she suddenly noticed she was no longer alone.

Above her stood a tall muscle bound brunette boy that she knew it would have been. Not that he would know her. Why would he know her? He was a year above her and in a completely different house. Not that it bothered her. She had seen him around a few times mainly in the great hall. How could she not? She had always loved a bad boy.

She stood up to match his stance eagerly. "I know. I will never get the hang of this" she muttered sadly replying to his statement of fact that he had just stated. She looked up at him shocked slightly that he had time to actually acknowledge her as they had never even exchanged a hello before now.

Church cocked an eyebrow as the girl hurriedly picked herself up off the ground. It almost seemed like she was... excited, that he was here. That was a little weird. After all he couldn't claim he knew this girl. Vaguely he recalled her last name-Graceen? Gracane? Something like that. He had never really paid much attention past the fact that she was in Gryffindor.

He merely shrugged at her comment. "Well not with that attitude," was his counter. Normally, if this was Jazz, he would have made a comment on how flying is similar to driving. Which would have lead to him joking about how she managed to maneuver a ton of metal and not a broom. But with this girl, he hadn't a clue what her blood status was.

Idly Church glanced back towards the pitch, ignoring her shocked expression. "If you're going for the team you don't need to worry about trees though," he commented. And that was true. In Quidditch you just had to watch out for every other player, the stands, and the bludgers.

Much easier than simple trees...

Kirby listened to church who obviously was confused about whom she was not that she really expected him to know her. They had never exchanged any mean of contact not even a simple hello. Kirby was not the best person to break the ice with others she was to mistrusting for that.

She smiled at the boys encouraging words to her. Why was he encouraging her. Suppose it came with being head boy of ravenclaw. "I suppose but i just get distracted so easily lately" she began to explain truthfully. It confused her Why she had been so easily distracted by him. He was no different to the next person in the school.

He really hoped she wasn't trying to imply what he thought she was. Quickly he did the calculations based off of the angle she had... well landed was technically the right word. Carefully he compared them to what he imagined his trajectory must have been as he walked. Oh boy... Well, if she had been flying over the pitch and had seen him then it was theoretically possible that she had flown over to see him. Of course correlation didn't necessarily imply causation... Yes, let's go with it being coincidental.

"Yea, getting distracted probably will throw you off," Church said, doing his best to sound as neutral as possible. "But learning to ignore said distractions would probably help." Idly he glanced back at the pitch, eyes scanning the hoops. He supposed he could charm the bludgers to fly around and try to hit her. That would be much more distracting, after all.

"What position are you trying for anyway?"

Kirby saw how church began to focus and concentrate on.something even though she was not one hundred percent sure what that something may have been. All she was able to see at that moment was him and him alone which she surely found bizarre. She had never been like this before and was glad when the topic was changed to quidditch try outs. "Seeker. I have always had a ambition to become a professional quidditch player for the cannons so i thought it would be the best place to start." she explained to him her voice coming in its usual velveteen way.

"Seeker, huh?" It wasn't so much of a question as it was an acknowledgement that she had spoken. Church did his best to ignore the fact that she wanted to play for the Cannons. They were, after all, the worst team in the league. Why anyone aspired to be on that team, or why anyone was such a die hard fan for them was well beyond him. The only reason he could fathom was that a person could then say they were a professional quidditch player. And it would be true. You just would be a pro on the worst team in existance.

But maybe that was worth it in of itself. If you really wanted to play at the professional level Church supposed there was nothing wrong with starting at the very bottom. Still, one should probably aspire to be better than that. But true enough, everyone did need to start somewhere. Which meant there had to be a team that was worse than the rest. It would be hard to get into the sport otherwise.

"Well, at least as seeker you have less to worry about," Church commented. It was kind of true. They really only had to watch the bludgers and look for the snitch. Everything else was pointless to look out for. If she had said chaser Church probably would have laughed before he could stop himself. But a seeker... she could probably do that.

"Friendly advice," Church said, rubbing his neck slightly. "Always keep your eyes moving. Don't focus on anything too long." Normally that was what he would say to someone who was keeping watch in the dark so they would see movement. But theoretically it should work for a seeker as well. Keep they eyes moving and you'll notice when the snitch glints in the light.

Keep your eyes moving and you probably wouldn't be distracted by people down below.

Kirby really hated to think of being seeker for the quidditch team at the lowest point but if she did not aim high she supposed that the disappointment from her lack of hand eye ordination wouldn't be as bad to feel. She knew not to aspire to represent her countries team as most normal people would. But to be honest she was far from normal. Sure she had an extremely pretty face but there was more to life in her eyes.

She had achieved something so far as she studied at hogwarts. Even if people didn't see the excitement she certainly did. It wasn't every day that she had been chosen to be president of the orchestra and choir. Yes she was amazing at music and singing everyone knew that as she studied at Royal but still she didn't care. She accepted his advice kindly. "Thanks. I will try my hardest" she admitted candidly.

"Right," Church said flatly, eyes scanning the open space. Now that he had seen the girl was okay, he didn't quite see the need to hang around."Well, you have fun with that. I have to go study," or something. Studying was a good excuse, right? He had said it in a  way that sounded legitimate... Better back it up with something. "I was just out to clear my head for a bit. Good luck with the try outs." Yes. Smooth.

With that Church gave a slight wave and turned about, heading back towards the castle. This walk certainly proved... interesting. Up until now the concept of a person being interested in him romantically wouldn't even have been considered in Church's mind. After all, how often did that happen? There had only ever been a few flings before he started dating Jeanette and he had never anticipated that anyone had grown an interest in him during that time.

Not that it mattered. Even though he was single now Church didn't really have an interest in anyone. Per se. There was one Ravenclaw that, he had to admit, spurred his interest. Not that he would ever admit that, however. Or he probably wouldn't... After all, emotions of love were dangerous. It left a person open to be hurt.

And Church didn't plan on letting that happen anytime soon.

Kirby smiled as he walked away back to the caste to continue his study. She waved at him politely as he waved at her walking away. She soon was back in the air conttantly thinking about about the advice the boy had given her. After a few hours of committed practice she headed back towards the castle it was near dinner time and she needed to get changed and sort out her hair before going to the great hall.
